| #1 Posted on 23.10.08 1109.21 | Long time U of A head coach Lute Olson is retiring, though I can't yet find an Internet link to confirm. Assistant Mike Dunlap is reportedly being tabbed as the interim coach and Arizona will conduct a national search for a replacement (per ESPN broadcast).
I hope Mr. Olson is in good health, he's not a young man and given last year's leave of absence this year's abrupt departure is odd.| Promote this thread! | | thecubsfan

I think Kevin O'Neill would be willing to leave the Grizzles. (Isn't everyone?) That whole successor->interim->fired sequence makes even less sense now.
Edit: Apparently Arizona is denying anything is up. Huh.

| #4 Posted on 23.10.08 1238.14 | | I suspect it's a health issue. I've never cared for Lute, but I hate to see anyone in poor health. I'm totally WAG'ing here, but he built this program from scratch and like cubsfan said - the scenario with O'Neill and letting Josh Pastner et al. leave makes no sense with the timing of his departure. |
