Yay for delivering. Probably the second best non-Wrestlemania show of the year behind No Way Out.

Cena/Edge was a spectacular match. Demolition derby with Edge taking a ton of dangerous stunt bumps and Cena taking his fair share of punishment too, including the Matt Hardy ladder to floor backwards bump. Only problem with a one-on-one TLC is that it's impossible to believably sell those flying table deaths for long enough before they have to get up and stop the climb. Edge has turned into an awesome worker and has had the best match on just about every PPV he's been on, so I think he's gotta be wrestler of the year. And Cena always holds up his end in these strong main events. ****1/2

From feud of the year to ... the opposite of that. Hell in a Cell was boring. Not a disaster and had its blood and highspots, but still the worst non-Bossman HIAC. The payback spots were good though. When it's time for Vince to "take his medicine" (not steroids), it's usually pretty entertaining, and this was no exception. Well it's the Big Show's ass. At least after this beating there's no way the McMahons will be on TV, well, tomorrow. **3/4

Trish/Lita was pretty good with the crowd really into it. Not as great as their miracle from November '04 that headlined Raw, but hard work and the rare perfect ending. The video package of Lita/Trish staredowns thru the years gives the impression that aging makes people look older. That's pretty much what I thought watching Trish's faretheewell at the end -- good gracious, I watched this girl for seven years. Your head is so hard it broke my shoe, girl. **3/4

Orton/Carlito was pretty disappointing with the exception of Carlito accidentally crushing Orton's face on a Lionsault and an awesome finish. **1/2

Squadlanders was nothin'. **

Kane/Umaga was quite alright until the bad finish. **

Jeff and Nitro had a better match on Raw but this was still good. Longer than ideal, but great heat. ***1/4

It would've been nice if a few of the matches were better, but they were all decent to good, the Trish deal was one of the rare things in wrestling that actually makes you happy, and the main event more than put the show over the top.

Johnny Nitro d. Jeff Hardy -- Good match. Some awkward moments, but it was a fine opener.

Kane nc. Umaga -- Okay for what it was, but the finish sure did suck. Seriously, they can't sacrifice KANE?

Spirit Squad d. Highlanders -- Okay, I guess. They seem to have zero plans as for what to do with the Tag belts.

DX d. McMahons & Big Show -- Good match, although I thought it dragged at times. Everyone was bloodied, and the end with Shane bleeding from the mouth and Vince knocked out by the broken sledgehammer sure made for a great visual. As far as a not-so-great visual... I'm sure the people who paid 200 bucks for front-row seats were glad they dropped that money to see the Big Show's balls.

Trish Stratus d. Lita -- Very good match. They both worked really hard to have Stratus leave on a high-note (to the point where they did a couple spots where I was afraid they were going to kill themselves). Trish getting to end her WWE run with winning the Women's Title in her home-town was a great, great moment, and I commend WWE for allowing it to happen.

Randy Orton d. Carlito -- Okay match. Carlito seemed motivated here (sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't... tonight, he did). Orton was just... Orton. Orton's mouth got busted open from Carlito doing a quebrada and elbowing him in the jaw. Okay match, but the finish was AWESOME (Carlito goes for a whacky springboard flippy-do, but Orton catches him with the RKO).

John Cena d. Edge -- Great match. Made the PPV worth it. Both guys went balls out, taking all sorts of horrendous bumps. Finish, with Cena FUing Edge off the ladder, through two tables, was a great visual. Excellent match with excellent heat.

Overall, okay PPV. Was pretty mediocre until the main-event, but that match more than delivered.

The day Vince decides to stop showing his ass on television will be a great one. The crowd definitely seemed to react to him getting his face shoved in Big Show's Big Ass, I just hope he takes that as "that's the payoff to this crap." I doubt it, though. Other than that, it was a satisfying match. I just have a hard time paying attention once the emphasis shifts to who will/won't get their face shoved in someone's ass.

I laughed when Trish went for the Sharpshooter - not because there was anything particularly funny about it, just because it was cool and definitely unexpected. Good for Trish; it's not like the title loses any value over this.

Stupid finish on Umaga/Kane. If they weren't ready to put Umaga over him, I don't think they should have booked the match.

I found the segment with Lita taunting Jeff and Matt to be VERY awkward. I really don't know the status of Matt and Lita's relationship - I'm assuming their friendly if they were willing to do that segment - but it was still a little awkward and out of left field. And is it actually going anywhere? Maybe Matt and Jeff can be the ones to rid us of Lita if she actually is going away.

And I thought it was in June that we were told the Spirit Squad breakup was imminent?

- Jeff Hardy vs Nitro (c) for the Intercontinental Championship.
Jeff turns this into a bad typical nothin'-but-armdrags cruiser match slightly for a while, but it gets better and lasts much longer than i expected. Nitro getting a foot on the rope rather than being able to kick out from the swanton helps soften the blow of Hardy's loss a bit, but the weak and predictable Melina hitting Jeff with a boot behind the ref's back ending is disappointing.

- Matt Hardy chats to Jeff backstage after his loss, presumably to make Jeff look less annoying by comparison. Lita turns up. Yes Team Xtreme reunion. "...Jeff, maybe you'd be a champion if you weren't such a screw up. Matt you'd be a champion, if, who am i kidding? You'd never be a champion." Lita doesn't deliver the line too well, but i like her as a heel and will miss her when she leaves.

- Umaga vs Kane
Kane blows his pyro before the match, meaning he's now even less likely to win. Umaga takes headshots like a nutter. Some nice stiff looking shots until Kane totally pussies out of taking Umaga's running butt-bump in the corner in a way even nearly as awesome as the early jobbers did. Armando Alejandro Estrada's mannerisms and directions are sweet. Kane hits the top rope clothesline and lands on his feet before impact even though Umaga is massive and could easily take it anyway. I like Umaga's offence. Lots of action outside the ring, followed by a countout that seemed way too fast; a DQ would have been nicer, or at least some kind of big move to cause both of them to wipeout and be incapable of getting back in the ring.

- The Highlanders vs The Spirit Squad (c)s for the Tage Team Titles
The Highlanders are growing on me. They're not bad in the ring and the slapping each other and being announced as 34 stones is nice, but the match has no trampoline based offence, so is acceptable, but not great. JR refers to the face slapping tag as something that sounds like "The shit tag!", i have no idea what he was actually trying to say with that. The ending wasn't bad, but i'm getting bored of The SS winning just because there are 5 of them.

- Vince & Shane McMahon and The Big Show vs DX, Hell In a Cell
Vince has sleeves, so looks slightly less silly and freakish than when he's wrestling in a vest. It takes a long time for a "You screwed Bret" chant to finally come, and even then it's not too strong. I'm mildly disappointed. HHH stabs his father in law in the head with a screwdriver. There's a lot of blood early: nice. Shane O Mac goes coast to coast on HHH with a trashcan - i hope it's Vince who takes the pin at the end of this, not him. As HHH's ear starts to bleed after the coast to coast Big Show shouts "Oh! Ohhh! Ohohoh!" etc for a while as he stares at him wide-eyed. I've enjoyed Show more since he's been in ECW than ever before, the cobra clutch backbreaker/swinging throw thing is nice, i wasn't really hoping for a shot of his bare arse though: "...deep in the crevice, Mr McMahon's head is literally up The Big Show's ass!". Holy shit, HHH broke the fucking sledgehammer on VKM's back. Granted it must have been a prop made for the purpose, but that was still a nice finish. This was better than i expected, but could have easily been a fine hardcore or cage match rather than trying to live up to the hype of being a HIAC.

- Trish Stratus vs Lita (c) for the Women's Title
Trish says "...go oot there..." twice in the video package before the match and i'm reminded how i love Canadian accents. Good match, with Trish locking in the sharpshooter for the win (not that Toronto deserve it for their half-arsed "You screwed Bret"s earlier), which is the nicest finish i can imagine, exceeding all my expectations of either a standard boring end or a screwjob.

- Carlito vs Randy Orton
Carlito hits a nice springboard corkscrew senton (probably?) followed directly by a lionsault which makes Randy's mouth explode - super. Every move that JR doesn't call makes me miss Joey Styles a little, especially as he's more annoying on ECW than he was on RAW. Orton's backbreaker is cool, but not as good as Carlito's backcracker. Isn't that his finisher? Looks like he's losing then - damn. Nice mid-air RKO to finish though. At this point i'm thinking the only way i'll be consoled after Carlito's loss is if the rematch is for the No.1 contender spot after Cena's sent to SD. Sigh.

- Edge (c) vs John Cena for the Spinnin' World Title in a TLC match
The reaction is more mixed than i expected. Not a bad "Cena sucks" chant before he's even out though. Edge's 'Sex & Violence' t-shirts are so much more stylish than Cena's. 'Regret Nothing, Fear Less' is a stupid phrase. I've been fairly surprised how many of those Edge t-shirts i've seen seeing as they pretty much read like an invitation for someone to beat you up and rape you. Seeing one on a fat bespectacled nerdy looking guy in Lloyds was just laughable too. Cena hits a fisherman suplex quite early on: Move #1 for him, he better use his 4 others wisely. Edge's inverted DDT to Cena on top of 2 chairs after 2 suplex reversals was satisfying. The cameras find 2 Cena fans in the crowd, they are 11 years old. Cena's sort-of-a-bulldog thing looks quite silly. Even though the STFU sucks, doing it to someone crushed in a ladder looked good. Cena FUs a ladder on top of Edge, which looks ridiculous. The tables on top of each other foreshadow the end of the match too obviously, especially when Cena has to set the top one up again after FU-ing Lita. Not the ending i hoped for, but the FU from the ladder through 2 tables was a good way to end with a bang even if Edge pretty much putting himself on Cena's shoulders before it didn't look too natural.

- Over all: Very enjoyable. Had i paid for it i wouldn't have regretted spending my money.

I will miss Trish more than anyone leaving wrestling in a long time. I rather see her on my TV than The Rock or Stone Cold. Part of it is cause she is so hot, but another part of it is that she always seems to put on a decent-to-great match everytime out. I just hope Beth Phoneix comes back on TV and takes her spot. Maybe tommorrow on RAW, they can do a Women's Battle Royal and have Beth come in and win it ala Gail Kim.

The TLC match was good, but too many "set up the table for the next big holy shit moment" for me. Like, when that 2nd table fell off after Cena FU'd Lita. He had no reason to set that table back up really. The only reason he had to do that was to make that last spot work. Its just those kinds of non-logical things that turns me off a little.

What the hell happened with that sunset flip/power bomb spot? Edge ended up power-slamming Cena through the table. But who would you say screwed up there?

Overall a fun and well executed PPV, but a lot of awkward and blown spots in quite a few matches. Hardy still looks sloppy in there.

It helped I didn't have to pay $40 for it though. Wings N More rules.

It seemed like Cena kind of tried to justify setting up the table... he set up the table and then teased going back out to do some big final move to put his evil arch nemesis away for good, but then decided against it and climbed the ladder. If you wanted to, you could say he was setting the table up for a planned move that never happened.

I thought the show was good overall; my only complaint with the booking was having Orton go over clean. Where does Carlito go from here?

Did anyone notice when The Big Show hung over the ropes he adjusted them to position himself a little better for comfort.

At least the event was better than Summerslam.

I don't think I predicted a single match correctly.

I like the Spirit Squad and the Highlanders and I think the Highlanders need the belts more than the SS to give them that extra push right now. Can the feud between SS and HL continue somehow since the SS won by numbers? Where has the trampoline gone?

I'm not happy with Cena having the belt. I hope this doesn't mean it's going to be Cena vs Umaga.

Carlito lost and Randy won. Those events being unrelated would make me but because Carlito lost to Randy I'm really :(ing right now.

Kan/Umaga has "choose a stipulation at Cyber Sunday" written all over it. It's definitely not over.

A pretty great show, all told. I can't see where else the DX/McMahons stuff can go, but I'm sure they'll come up with something.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Did anyone else notice JR calling Umaga's "running butt splash to the guy's face in the corner" the "ATM"? That's the first time I heard it referred to as such - and about fell out of the chair

Hopefully, that one doesn't catch on

Cena as champ, again??? Groan.
I thought they were building up Umaga with the King Kong Bundy push to be Cena's opponent if he won the belt, but it looks like he will be continuing his feud with Kane. So who will be the new #1 contender?

Surely TLC should have blown that feud off, even though Edge does deserve at least one re-match. I would expect he would get one tonight, and then Cena moves on to someone else. It just seems that matchup had headlined too many big shows this year.

I am in total agreement. Other than Eddy, I think I'd have to go back to Jericho's departure to find someone who so consistently entertained, with good matches and great promos, and who was as good both face and heel. I was glad to read about Trish's send-off, she deserved it for having to endure "bark like a dog" segments. I await the Trish DVD.

I kind of expect a Highlanders rematch tonight, more than a Hardyz reunion. Especially with Cryme Time coming.

With Umaga/Kane being prolonged and Orton winning the match last night, I assume Orton. But I could be completely off on that.
