Anyways, I was clicking the channels tonight and my boyo told me a "Ultimate Fights" special was going to be on USA. It's susposed to have peices of the DVD of the same name in it. Anyways...after viewing the special, it got my mind a-thinkin'.

What fight scenes do you guys think are the "Ultimate" or atleast some of your favs?

Off the top of my head (no particular order.)

-The final chick fight in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
-Final fight in Legend of Drunken Master
-The fight against the "Axe Gang" in Legend of Druken Master
-Rocky! Yo Adrean!!
-Bruce Lee infiltrating the underground establishment in Enter The Dragon.

-The last fight in "Fist of Legend." I have NEVER seen anyone get the living hell beat out of them so bad with a BELT. This was the movie that sold me on Jet Li.

-Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in "Return of the Dragon." A classic fight, and a special one for me because the choreography makes the hits look PAINFUL. And Bruce does the best diss against Chuck Norris ever.

-Roddy Piper and Tiny "Zeus" Lister in 'They Live." Just gotta love any fight that's about "JUST PUT THE DAMN GLASSES ON!"

I'd nominate the Optimus Prime/Megatron fight from "Transformers: The Moive" and either of the Spike/Vicious fights from "Cowboy Bebop," but I doubt you wanted animated nominations.

Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi

The Dread Pirate Roberts (Wesley) vs. Indigo Montoya in the Princess Bride

Nemesis Enforcer/Golobulous/Pythona/Serpentor vs. Sgt. Slaughter/Falcon/Jinx in the G.I. Joe Movie. (Note: Originally Duke was supposed to die but they changed it due to the outburst after Optimus Prime died in the Transformers movie.)

Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp and the gang vs. the Cowboys in Tombstone

Maximus vs. Commodus (sp?) in Gladiator

Neo vs. Agent Smith in the subway - the Matrix

Pat Healy vs the dog in There's Something About Mary still makes me laugh.

There's a few things that didn't make that list that should have. And there's a few that did that shouldn't have. Anyway, I'd throw in a fight from the Once Upon a time in China series. No particular fight, but at least one of them from the first or second movie. I'd say the last fight in A Man Called Hero, and the Priest vs. Zombies in Dead Alive.

Piper fights Keith David...or possibly David Keith...no, no it's defintely Keith David...I think. Anyway, it's one of them and not Tiny Lister in "They Live!", and yeah, that's got to be one of the best. 13 minutes over a pair of sunglasses!

I love the fight on the roof in Jackie Chan's "Who Am I?", where he's stuck up there with the two guys who keep timing their parts of the fight and switching off with him at certain intervals. It mixes in good fighting and a nifty little gimmick.

The Shu Lien/Jen fight at the temple in Crouching Tiger is great, but I think I like the Yellow Hill ambush even better. Anytime someone yells "She's going to paralyze you!" and it's followed up by an actual paralyzing, it's gotta be good. And the actual three vs. one fight with Jade Fox is just really cool, and then Li Mu Bai shows up and turns it around (and stops to do some unparalyzing) before it turns into the Li/Jen duel where he just uses a stick against the Green Destiny. Really amazing sequence.

The second part of the Wong Fei-hung/Yim fight in Once Upon a Time In China is up there, too, especially once they settle down with the wire and ladder stuff. Great ending where he cuts off the hair and throws the blade through the two rings.

My bad. Thanks for correcting me. It's been a long stretch of years since I've seen "They Live" all the way through.

And since animated fighst are now open, here's two from my recent viewings:

-D vs. Meier Link in "VAmpire Hunter D: Bloodlust." A very intense fight and the perfect finish to the movie. It's over pretty quick, but when I think of how great that movie looks and plays out (and beleive me it's hard to narrow it down when you dig the whole thing) I keep going to the final fight.

-Spike vs Vincent, "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin On Heaven's Door." You could say part of it's because of the backdrop (they fight on a radio tower in the rain. Can't mention the rest without spoiling the flick) but it mostly has to do with the smoothness and pacing of the fight. Also--Spike busts out the flying spin kick. Twice.

I gotta say Bruce Campbell vs. his own hand in Evil Dead 2 is classic. Also for sheer goofiness the fight in the Quiet Man which seems to go on forever.

As you can tell by my sig, I LOVE Dead Alive. I'd have to nominate Uncle Les v. the zombies as well.

Here are a few more-

Riki v. Oscar from Riki-Oh: The Story of Riki

the water-melon monster fights from Drunken Wu-Tang

OPening scene of The Way of the Gun (ok, not a great fight, but the best shit-talking I've ever seen)

Jubei v. the blind guy from Ninja Scroll

Lightening Foot v. Jackie Chan from the original Drunken Master

Now that I think about it, anything choreographed by Yuen Woo Ping

If we're including comic book fights I'd have to say-

Swamp Thing v. Arcane - I don't remember the issue #, but it's in the Life + Death collection. Arcane chases ST through the swamp, mocking him for his failure (he had just killed his own niece, ST's girlfriend), until they reach ST's "place of power". Great art and brilliant writing.

Batman v. Joker - Dark Knight Returns book 3 I believe. Great ending to a great rivalry, taking place in the Tunnel of Love.

Promethius v. the Justice League - Again the issue escapes me, but in his intro issue, he nearly takes out the entire Justice League. Outfighting Batman and outsmarting just about all the rest of them.

Spider-man v Green Goblin - Death of Gwen Stacy. Read this in a collection when I was little and it shattered my 8 year-old mind that they could let a main character die like that.

Cassidy v. Sexual Detectives (preacher) - Tears came out of my eyes, I was laughing so hard. Cass getting his hand stuck in one of their mouths, while his partner tries to sodomize him, while screaming, "It's Buggerin' time!"

Now THAT is the ultimate ladder match. At least it
beats out that pathetic attempt in Rush Hour 2.

I got to see Bruce Lee's Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon recently, and what amazes me is that in his fights he doesn't waste a single hit.

I was a little disappointed that the Musketeer ripped it off too (though the fight on and around the carraige was cool).

just to veer further off topic, I was incredibly dissapointed by the Musketeer. Every fight ended right when it was about to take off.

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned: the subway scene in the Matrix, where Neo fights Agent Smith. I like how they built up the agent as being this invincible being, so you know there's no way Neo is going to beat him so he has to outsmart him.

I saw some others mention Cowboy Bebop, but no one mentioned Spike's battles with Mad Pierrot in the episode Pierrot le Fou. Definitely awesome stuff.

Dammit, I knew I forgot a coouple. The fight between Spike and Asimov in "Asteroid Blues" is pretty fly too, especially since 90% of the fight is Spike just toying with Asimov.

Wow, this is turning into a Cowboy Bebop love thread. Nothing wrong with that, since the show totally rocks!

And some more fight scenes...

-In Braveheart where Wallace goes back into town after his wife is killed. Most of the action in that movie consitutes battles and attacks. But Wallace taking down those guys all by his lonesome ruled.

-Two Fights form Jackie Chan's First Strike (I believe.) The first fight Jackie vs. the gang using a ladder as a weapon. And the second where he's at the crime bosses funeral on stilts. Not the best but definately interesting.

-And for the Bebop lovers: Spike vs. Ed's Dad. Funny as hell seeing Spike totally owned by that big goof.
