'bout time.

The biggest fish is still out there though.....shame they couldn't take at least one of them alive, they would have probably known where Big Sad is hiding out.

Ah well. Good news nontheless, kudos to the men (and women?) who took them out.

For some reason, I don't think many people will be shedding tears for these two cretins getting to take the permanent dirt nap. The shame of course is that they only get to die once. Hopefully, Idi Amin will make 3 very shortly. BTW, Idi Amin in exile in Saudi Arabia is just another reason to despise the House of Saud.

Come now, the responses to that latter post pretty much prevent you from painting the entire left with the "traitor" brush here.

I for one just hope their last few moments were as painful as the thousands that they tortured.

I dislike George W. Bush as a person and a politician. I hope he loses in 2004 and will do all I can to see that happen, as I believe he is bad for this country. However, to compare him to the Hussein brothers is lunacy, and just goes to show what we all already know, that there are jackasses on both sides of the aisle.

That said, I do wish we could have taken them alive. I would have liked PsyOps to get a hold of them.

Maybe I'm just desensitized by everything on TV and in movies, but color me unimpresses with the "grisly, graphic" death photos. I've only seen them on CNN.com, are there any more detailed (or not just head-shots) out there anyone's seen?

Hmmmm. I was thinking there would be some "TOO HOT FOR U.S. TV!" shots shown on Arabic TV, where they haven't been shy about showing much more graphic images of the war. I just could NOT figure out Al-Jazeera's website to save my life.

You're probably right, though.

Edit: Where'd my font color go? I had to fix it manually.

Will we still criticize those who release photos of our dead for violation of the "rules" of warfare?

I certainly understand why we did it, given that we apparently believe that much of the current opposition is based on the theory that the Hussein regime might be coming back (and I'm not sure that's entirely true myself, but that does seem to be the theory we are operating under, and this is consistant with that theory). However, I also understand why Iraq wanted to release photos of U.S. dead, as they were trying to put over how they were winning the war, and build up their own troop morale. I think it's inconsistant on the one hand to criticize Iraq for doing something in their own best interest, and yet do the same exact thing when it is in our best interest.

So do we continue to criticize when somebody supposedly breaks the "rules", or do we just take the stance that once you've reached the point of war, there really are no "rules" (the correct stance in my opinion) and let it go.

I'm left wondering whether it was possible at all to have taken them alive? Having established their location, would it not have been easier to stave them out? Or at the very least have them do the dirty i.e. commit suicide?

Potentially this could be a PR cock up. For those in support of the Hussein clan, this would be quite possibly seen as a glorious last stand, where the two brothers died fighting together. Instead of damaging morale, it could have the reverse effect and inspire those in support to fight on to ensure they "martyrdoms" are not in vain.

Capturing them surely would have been a greater coup, I wonder if this avenue was even pursued?

I'm sure the military would've liked to take them alive like they they for like over half of the most wanted from Hussein's regime. The reason the pictures were shown is b/c the Iraqi people asked for them and it seems they wanted proof and reassurance the brothers are gone.

3 or 4 American were hurt in this attack. If we tried to starve them out how many more would have been hurt or killed. Plus I just dont see how this could be anything but good for a PR move in Iraq. Sure a few of the Hussein clan may try and revenge their deaths but millions are not more sure that they will never be back in power.

I definitely see your point. I guess the difference is that the Americans were prisoners of war while Odai and Qusai fell under War Criminals... But I agree with you, both parties released photos to further their own agenda and propaganda

What is up with the media saying that they are possibly dead? I mean, they have been positively identified by tons of people and their dental records have been confirmed. The US military probably would have preferred to have them alive rather than dead. Why would we lie about this? International media...so objective...

Judging by America's pitifully embarassing voter turnout in 2000, all he'd need to do is convince five of his close friends to vote Democrat in '04 . . .

We just had 2 news helicopters crash mid-air over central Phoenix. Everybody's (5 stations') news helicopters were following a chase through the city, & somehow two of them managed to crash mid-air.
