Twenty Years ago, Santo, the silver masked luchador, passed away...
Santo, was more than a wrestler, an actor or a succesful sportman... he was an icon of Mexico... an icon of popular culture, (folklore if you want it)... he was one of the few characters in mexican sports that can hold the tittle of legend... because he was unstoppable, he had technique and atheticism with an amazing amount of charisma...
I dont know guys... , i dont know if in the US you have or ever had a wrestling figure with this status os legend...
What do you think?
By the way, i have an extra comment to illustrate the power of santo as a public icon in mexico...
It was at the final concert of the Pearl Jam Tour in Mexico city last Summer... when the band played one of the final songs.. ( the cover "rockin in the free world") Eddie (and all the band and staff) wore masks of active and retired luchadores, such as mil mascaras, canek , blue demon and many more... when Eddie get back to the stage, he said: "Santo!... Santo raises victorius over Bush!"... the crew went Nuts... all the audience found that pretty cool... as long as they assumed that Eddie wore that mask as a symbol of Peace on earth...

I didnt know that ! as a matter a fact i dont remember any infomercial show or even an ad Spot performing the original Santo...
Few years ago El Hijo del Santo (Santo's son)
made a funny Ad commercial fot Tv... it was for Coke i think...
