Buffy the F'n Vampire Slayer - Let me preface by saying this was not a horrible show, but it didn't justify the rabid fanbase that thought Whedon and co. should have swept the Emmy's every year.

Turning Willow lesbo was trite and trendy and Buffy laid more vampires than she slayed. Spike? Really?

The thing about Whedon's fans is there is a small minority that makes the rest of Buffy fans seem insane. Most people had a lot of complaints about the show in the last couple years (a lot of people complaining about the same things that you are) but to the hardcore Whendon fans this was the greatest show ever ever ever omg ever!!!

Buffy never had great ratings, but that small group of that small group of viewers were nuts over the show.

As for my selection here, it's gotta be Friends. The first two seasons were very, very funny. After that, it was more soap-opera with who was hooking up with who and less about being funny. I think I saw more commercials for it with slow, sad music playing in the background while the NBC announcer softly said "Tonight, on a very special Friends" than any ads for actual jokes.

Tribal - ditto on Friends. Great first few seasons, downhill after that.

Mad About You. It had its moments, but on the whole i hated it.

Lost - I never got it. I tried but just could not stay interested.

Desperate Housewives - I still cant beleive this is still on the air.

Life is hilariously cruel.

I found both Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead to be ridiculously boring for the amount of praise they get. The Walking Dead is one of my favorite comics, so I was pretty annoyed at that one.

I've seen about a dozen episodes of The Big Bang Theory and laughed zero times.

Lost- Never understood the hype
Friends- okay for a season, then it just became "will they or won't they" between Ross and Rachael, and frankly nobody's done it as good as Cheers' Sam and Diane.
Big Bang Theory- I get it. They're nerds. Beat that "they're nerds" horse to death.
Cougar Town (sorry Abed)
Just about ANY drama on CBS. The CSI franchise is overrated. Yeah, I said it.
Mad About You
Will and Grace
Big Brother.

Willow being gay had nothing to being trendy more like Seth Green bailing to do Austin Powers 2 and other movies. Also, Willow/Tara was one of the highlights of the second less than stellar run. I don't mind the fourth season, but god damn season five was their jump the shark. As for Buffy getting great ratings, it got great ratings on the bullshit networks it was on.

I have two. One is Battlestar Galatica. I am not even going to get into the gender changing thing, but the whole idea it was revolutionary. It was not B5, DS9 and a bunch of sci-fi shows were doing space politics before this came around. As for the stunning realistic feel, they turned the lights to almost off then light it with floodlights. It was fucking terrible. It also had the worst problem of all TV shows, it fell too love with its characters especially Baltor. Dude would have been killed on sight after New Caprica, I don't care what anyone says. Minus the whole angel bullshit, the show never really appealed to me at all even as a sci-fi nerd.

Lost. Ok, lets get this out of the way first. I tried to watch it then a friend turned to me and said "You know they are never going to explain any of it, right?" Then I stopped. He said this after the middle of season one. The writing was on the wall for everyone to see that they were so far gone with dinosaurs and smoke monsters none of it was going to make sense. I understand people love it and still think its great, but to me, it was, has been and will always be the greatest scam on TV.

Two and a half men. Just wasn't that funny.
Friends. It was okay but not basically a bunch of spoiled, self-absorbed, not too bright characters.

Foe me, i couldnt get into Friends because it took place in NYC and there were virtually no non-white people on camera. That, and it just wasn't funny to me. Seinfeld too. I just do not "get it."

Just throwing it out there as a blanket statement but....basically everything on CBS today. Big Bang Theory, NCIS, Two and a Half Men, Two Broke Girls, Criminal Minds, Mentalist, etc. All of these generic, uninteresting, bland shows and yet they all get giant ratings. Sad.

Mad Men. I stuck with it for two and a bit seasons because so many people told me it was great but I just can't get into it.

Not much of anything happens and all of the characters are thoroughly unlikeable, so even if something did happen I'm not sure I'd care. I don't hate it, I just couldn't care less about it.

And I covered how shitty I thought Lost was in the other thread.

I was going to say "every CBS sitcom", so this pretty much covers it. I'll also throw Modern Family out there. Not only does it get big ratings, but critics seem to love it, too. So, pretty much every Big-3-Network-Comedy-Not-On-NBC-Thursday-Night.

Well, a lot:

Seinfeld - it has never made me laugh. Not once. I haven't watched that many episodes, but enough of them. What is so fricking funny? I occasionally get a small chuckle from Michael Richards - thought he was brilliant on Fridays - but I want to scream when Jason Alexander is on screen, and - ah, whatever, it just goes nowhere for me.

I feel the same way about all the crap on NBC on Thursdays - I find the office more boring than anything else. I like Steve Carrell in everything else I have seen, but I hate that show. I am sure I haven't given it enough time, but the same goes for Community and Parks and Recreation. But then, clearly a lot of people hate them, based on their ratings.

Friends also. Never made me laugh either. Watched occasionally because Aniston's hot.

Law and Order - even thought there have been 500 or so episodes of the four series, I found them ponderous and with little fun character development. Didn't care for it.

But then, I am one of the many many people who watches CBS a lot. (not 2.5 men though) One of the differences in the police procedurals on CBD and Law and order is that all the ones I watch anyway (NCIS, NCIS LA, Person of Interest) all have fun, interesting character development that runs and a nice sideline to the cop story I am enjoying. I do enjoy cop stories a lot.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift

I am with you on the CBS shows and I don't know why. They either have their target demographic pegged perfectly and I'm not in it or I just don't get Americana. I can't remember what the last CBS show I watched regularly was. Survivor season 1 and 2 maybe but that seems like so long ago.

hansen9j knows that I am going to say Cougar Town. I don't mind it when shows have unlikable characters, but I don't get why you cast a show full of unlikable characters and then you expect me to LIKE them. See also: Sex In The City (don't see that).

When I watch 30 Rock, I'm always tempted to shake the TV and see if all the funny will fall out, like it got clogged in the HDMI cable. I see the effort put into making the show, but I don't laugh. Not once.

The first season of Friends was awful. It was "ooh look how hip and New York we are!" Nevermind the fact that with their career paths there is no way in hell they'd have those apartments.

But then they gave the characters some flaws (Chandler's defensive sarcasim, Monica's OCD, Joey's stupidness) and I enjoyed it. They were really smart about going ahead and throwing Ross and Rachel together to shut the fans up because after the breakup was when the show was its best. It stayed good until the Rachel and Joey stuff started.

So first season horrible, later seasons horrible, but there were 2 or 3 years of great TV there.

Ok, I don't get the love for anything with Anthony Bordain in it. There is not a more pretentious douchebag on television.

Read it and weep, fella

Also never understood any of the LOVE for: Seinfeld, Friends, Frazier, any of the CSI's, most sitcoms in general really, and I dont know if I've ever liked anything on CBS ever (outside of Letterman, but even his show has seen better days IMO).

Never seen Community or Parks & Rec. I love 30 Rock, but I get why others dont. As for The Office, I've never seen an unfunny episode, but there is something about that show that keeps me from making an effort to watch it again. I wish I knew what it was. Everytime I watch an episode (usually on accident), I always enjoy it but when I have the opportunity to CHOOSE to watch one, I always decline. Dont know what that's about.

I'd argue that it's not that people "hate" those shows (although I'm sure there are people who do), but that they're on NBC and - thus - nobody watches.

I thought at one point they established there was some sort of rent control owing to Monica's former roommate, and that is how it was plausible the girls had that apartment.

Season 4 was brilliant with the apartment switching and Phoebe having the babies. It stayed on a pretty consistent level right up until Chandler and Monica actually got married. (Them deciding to get married in Vegas was a classic episode.) Mrs. JJD and I quit watching right around the time of the Rachel/Ross/Joey triangle and I've never actually seen the series finale.
