| #1 Posted on 10.8.09 2024.45 | Instant Rating: 5.17 | THIS WEEK IN TV Monday-ABC has new episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Dating In The Dark. FOX has the Teen Choice Awards, hosted by the Jonas Brothers. NBC has the new episodes of Great American Road Trip and Dateline NBC. Tuesday-ABC has new episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, the final two episodes of Better Off Ted, and a new Primetime: The Outsiders. CBS has a new Big Brother. FOX has new episodes of Hell's Kitchen and More To Love. NBC has a new America's Got Talent. Wednesday-ABC has new episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, Wipeout, and Primetime: Crime. NBC has part 2 of TV's Funniest Phrases, and new episodes of America's Got Talent, and The Philanthropist. Thursday-ABC has a new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. CBS has a new Big Brother. Friday-ABC has a new 20/20. CBS has the special Neil Diamond: Hot August Night (NYC). FOX has the last two episodes of Mental. Let's call it the series finale, because a .9 isn't going to cut it, even in summer. NBC has a new Dateline NBC. Saturday-ABC airs Shark Tale (The W at Amazon). FOX has America's Most Wanted. NBC has the VISA US Gymnastics Championship. Sunday-ABC airs a new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, a new Shark Tank, and a new Defying Gravity. I don't know if 60 Minutes is new. thefutoncritic says it's been reruns since May 17th, but TitanTV says its new all these weeks. CBS definitely has new episodes of Big Brother and There Goes The Neighborhood. The CW has the finale of Easy Money and Disturbing Behavior. I believe Disturbing Behavior was Katie Holmes first starring role in a movie. NBC has two new episodes of Merlin and a rerun of Saturday Night Live: Presidential Bash 2008.

Also, who ever thought a series of heads-up poker matches was a good idea? To top it all, Phil Ivey (nice marketing job NBC) practically brought in a blanket and pillow to pass away his five minutes of airtime.

Face the Ace banned in three markets (guess which one they focued on.)
I'm leaning towards actually siding with these markets. It was obviously a commercial for a service (Full Tilt Poker) that by the letter of the law is still illegal. It was pretty obvious that Ivey, Lederer, and the other FTP shareholders really wanted no part of this and they were merely doing their promotion obligations.

Eh, it doesn't seem to be any worse than Poker After Dark et al. To be fair, KSL also preempts that and other shows of their ilk, so they've got consistency on their side. I wouldn't be too thrilled if they were my NBC affiliate, as it seems like they're extending their reach to advance their own interests rather than the audience, but... I'm sure I'm wrong there. Probably safe to assume that a majority of their viewers are of the LDS persuasion and aren't up in arms over the decision.

Shrug. The station has consistantly not shown poker, and hasn't had a public outcry, so I can't imagine there will be this time. They also refused to show "God, the Devil, and Bob"... which not even two of my favorite actors could save from a lame script and Bob. |
