| #1 Posted on 5.5.08 1757.33 | Instant Rating: 5.10 | The fall-to-spring season is nearly over. Nearly everything will have its finale by May 22, and then what's below is all the new programming that is going to air over the summer on the broadcast networks.
ABC The Bachelorette (May 19-July 14)-starring DeAnna Pappas, who was one of the finalist on season 11 of The Bachelor. Men In Trees (May 28-June 11)-they decided to hold 3 episodes back until after May sweeps ended. Not a good sign for fans of the show (assuming there are any). The Mole (June 2-August 4)-After a four-year hiatus, The Mole returns to American television. Wipeout (June 24-July 29)-A game show in which contestants compete in an extreme obstacle course. Hosted by ESPN's John Anderson (feel the synergy!) and Jill Wagner, who appeared in Blade: The Series, which aired on SpikeTV in 2006. I Survived A Japanese Game Show (June 24-July 29)-reality show about 10 people who compete in "the ultimate Japanese game show". Hopkins 24/7 (June 26-July 31)-6 part documentary chronicling the goings-on at John Hopkins Hospital Dance Machine (June 27-July 25)-another dance-competition game show, with E! correspondent Jason Kennedy as the host. High School Musical: Summer Session (July 20-August 25)-16 to 22-year-olds compete for a yet-unannounced role in some version of High School Musical. Hosted by Nick Lachey. Wanna Bet? (July 21-August 25)-Celebrity contestants bet money on whether ordinary people will succeed or fail in various stunts, tricks, and mental challenges. This appears to be a remake of the German game show Wetten, dass..?, which has been on the air since 1981.
CBS Million Dollar Password (June 1-July 6)-update of the classic game show, hosted by Regis Philbin. Swingtown (June 5-August 28)-scripted drama about a family in the 1970s who moves into a suburb and discovers their neighbors are swingers. Some feel that the delay (it was originally slated as a mid-season replacement) means the show is no good, others point out that the show is a continuing drama (like Lost or 24) and so running uninterrupted may be better for it. Greatest American Dog (July 10-August 28)-reality competition to find the greatest dog, with a $250,000 prize to the winner. Flashpoint (July 11-September 19)-scripted drama about the experiences of a police SRU (I'm guessing Special Response Unit). Starring Amy Jo Johnson and a bunch of Canadians. Big Brother (July 13-September 17)-the traditional summer season airs. Jingles (July 27-September 14)-contestants work together to write and perform song jingles about various topics.
FOX Back To You (now-June 11?) 'Til Death (now-June 25?)-Fox held Back To You and 'Til Death back a while, presumably so that they could find an audience in the summer. Neither one has been renewed yet. They might be waiting to see how those summer episodes go. Hell's Kitchen (now-July 8) Cops (May 17-September 6) America's Most Wanted (May 17-September 6) So You Think You Can Dance (May 22-August 7) The Moment of Truth (May 27-September 2) Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? (June 12-July 31)
NBC Deal Or No Deal (whenever they feel like it)-I believe that there will be five unaired episodes after May 22. No idea when those will air. American Gladiators (May 12-August 4) Last Comic Standing (May 22-August 7) Fear Itself (May 29-August 7)-13-episode horror anthology series. Episode titles include "Community", "Spooked", "Eater", "Chance", "Skin & Bones", "Red Snow", "Family Man", "New Year's Day", "Something With Bite", and "Nightmare in Lace". Nashville Star (June 9-August 4) Celebrity Circus (June 11-August 6)-6 celebrities (actor Antonio Sabāto, Jr., singer Blu Cantrell, actor Christoper Knight, Olympic swimmer Janet Evans, "actor"/professional skateboarder Jason "Wee Man" Acuņa, and model Rachel Hunter) perform stunts in a head-to-head competition. Hosted by Joey Fatone. America's Got Talent (June 17-August 5) The Baby Borrowers (June 25-July 30)-this was originally supposed to air in the fall after American Gladiators, but they moved My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad to that slot because the two shows were more compatible. 5 teenage couples take care of children in four different stages of life (baby, toddler, pre-teen, grandchild) over the course of a month. Celebrity Family Feud (July 1-August 5)-Celebrity version of the classic game show. Hosted by Al Roker.

THIS WEEK ON TV TUESDAY-ABC has preempted According To Jim with a special Dancing With The Stars: Judges' All-Time Top 10. Wikipedia tells me that there have been 39 performances that have gotten a perfect 30, so they've got plenty to choose from. The Best of SNL takes a week off so that they can show a rerun of Law & Order: SVU (in addition to the new episode that airs after). Kind of a strange decision.
WEDNESDAY-In the second week in its new timeslot, Boston Legal is already taking the night off. Instead, we get Audition: Barbara Walters' Journey, which apparently is a story of her life. They say she's going to talk about, among other things, her personal life, her "three marriages and several serious romances."
FRIDAY-ABC's airing a special entitled TV's All Time Funniest. The two-hour special will reveal the results of a survey conducted by Nielsen Media Research asking people who they thought the funniest sitcom characters were in 8 different categories, such as Funniest Father, Mother, Kids, Relatives, Neighbors, Friends, Bosses, and Co-Workers. This will preempt Duel, which will probably miraculously be preempted until May sweeps are over.
WEEKEND-On ABC you can see NBA Conference Semi-Finals on Saturday night. It looks like it's going to be game 3 of the Boston/Cleveland series. FOX once again has NASCAR, this time airing the Dodge Challenger 500 from the Darlington Raceway. Cable note: On Saturday, Lifetime is showing the premiere of made-for-tv movie Mom, Dad & Her, starring The Office's Melora Hardin. That's ... strange. On Sunday, CBS has the finale and the reunion show for Survivor. ABC airs the season finale of Brothers & Sisters as well. On NBC, the Sunday edition of Dateline NBC has been replaced by yet another rerun of Law & Order: SVU.| Promote this thread! | | geemoney
