THIS WEEK IN TV: *ABC's Sunday night ratings are going to change. The NFL overrun means that the 60 Minutes rating includes some of the NFL matchup, The Amazing Race rating includes some of 60 Minutes, and so on.
The shows that are down the most are the ones who really miss their lead-in support. Samantha Who? is finding out what life is like when you aren't airing after Dancing With the Stars. Scrubs is missing The Office's lead in support. ABC and CBS's Wednesday night lineups, meanwhile, falter because of the appearance of Deal or No Deal on Wednesday night (as well as any other night NBC needs programming).
As the strike continues, shows continue to drop like flies. Scripted shows that are either out of episodes or the networks are choosing not to air include: The Big Bang Theory, Rules of Engagement, Prison Break, Cavemen, Carpoolers, The Office, Two and a Half Men, Bionic Woman, Back To You, Heroes, Chuck, and Life. Reaper may or may not have a few more episodes remaining. And word just came out today that Big Shots has been put on hiatus, with 5 episodes yet to air.
Cane airs two new episodes this week, with one of them prempting The Unit. The last new episode of Cane airs next week.
Wednesday night The CW will see the season finale of America's Next Top Model and the premiere of Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants. Crowned is an 8-episode reality show about mother-daughter teams competing to win a beauty pagent and $100,000. Gossip Girl will move to America's Next Top Model's timeslot next week.
Last week, I missed that NBC is airing Saturday Night Live specials to fill holes in their lineup. The Best of Will Farrell aired last Saturday. A Christmas special airs this Thursday, and then a 30-minute The Best of Chris Farley airs on Saturday.
Survivor: China has its season finale on Sunday night, followed by the traditional reunion show.
THE WEEK IN SPECIALS: Monday-I Want A Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown on ABC Tuesday-Shrek The Halls and Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too on ABC, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on The CW. Wednesday-a special episode of Dateline airs on NBC. It's a follow up on the McCaughey septuplets, 10 years after Dateline's first story on them. Thursday-Saturday Night Live: Christmas airs on NBC. The best of SNL's Christmas themed sketches, including Marth Stewart's Topless Christmas (that'll bring the search engine hits), Mister Robinson's Christmas, and an Irvin Mainway sketch, among others. Friday-It's A Wonderful Life prempts NBC's Friday night lineup. Saturday-Surviving Christmas airs on ABC. The Notebook airs on CBS. SNL: The Best of Chris Farley airs on NBC.
Should we assume that you don't get MTV's "Jersey Shore" in Australia? It's a phenomenon that I certainly don't understand ... but it is quite the phenomenon. I thought the Snooki was quite true to "life".
