TCM will be showing NAUSICAA OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND and CASTLE IN THE SKY tonight at 8pm and 10pm, respectively. These are the English versions, but if you want, you can see the original Japanese language versions of the same films at 12:15am and 2:15am. Both of these anime classics are well worth missing WILL & GRACE or CSI over.

G4 is the new, exclusive home to the Hasbro's TRANSFORMERS and G.I.JOE cartoons. The deal also includes BEAST WARS and B-DAMAN. There is interest in a new Transformers G1 series featuring the 'classic look' characters.
-
USA has picked up THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT which continues the story from the film starring Ashton Kutcher, but the show will not STAR Ashton Kutcher... thankfully. I actually look forward to this NOT sucking, look what they did with THE DEAD ZONE.
-
USA has also ordered a new series called UNDERFUNDED, which is a comedy/drama about Canada's secret service. It'll be paired next season with MONK. Mather Zickel, from RENO 911, will be starring.
-
John Waters, director of such GREAT films as PINK FLAMINGOS and HAIRSPRAY, is starring in a new series for Court TV titled TILL DEATH DO US PART. It features '...true stories of marriages that end with one spouse murdering the other.'
-
TNT is producing an 8 hour mini series based on stories from Stephen Kings NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES. It will be eight, one hour episodes, each on one story, as an anthology series. It'll air next summer.
-
Will Toale has signed on to play AQUAMAN for the new WB series from the creators of SMALLVILLE. Yes, he WILL be talking to fish. Also, sorry, but I have no clue as to who he is.
-
VH1 gets the date wrong by scheduling SO NOTORIOUS, it's first original sitcom starring Tori Spelling, on April 2nd.
-
CHINESE KUNG-FU STAR SEARCH is a new reality show coming in March. It promises to showcase some of the best martial artists in the world, competing for a chance to star in a new film and television series titled LEGENDS OF MONK WARRIORS FROM SHAOLIN TEMPLE. Sadly, however, it hasn't gotten a distribution deal here in America yet.

And lastly, NBC is finally jumping on the 'super hero/comic book' band wagon with HEROES. A new hour long series set for next season about random people who suddenly discover that they have super powers. Some decide to use their powers for personal gain and or be 'villains' while others decide to help others and become 'heroes'. With a decent cast, THIS could be great.

I read somewhere that the WB was thinking about it, but that was a few months ago.

Son of a BITCH! I've got three-and-a-half episodes' worth of scripts for this, with the EXACT same name and pitch, sitting on my computer at home! A real-life superhero approach, with the political, religious, personal and social ramifications of the sudden appearance of superpowers amongst everyday joes. DAMMIT! Well, there goes that dream....

Sadly, I don't think the show is coming back. The SciFi Channel and WB were the 2 networks that were rumored to be looking at the show, but I haven't seen any news on that front in quite a bit.

All I can think of is Dave Chappelle's bit on Aquaman: "Hi Aquaman!" "Hi fish. See anything strange or unusual lately?" [pause] "Hi Aquaman!"

| #8 Posted on 13.1.06 1110.53 | Instant Rating: 7.88 | I'm with Spaceman Spiff on DLM. Mandy Patakin has a new show and the push to get it picked up really quieted down months ago. I think the show could survive the move off of cable since really only the language would have been a problem, but even though the premise allows them to switch out Reapers almost at any time, I don't know how much I'd like to see disruption in the cast. As much as I hate to say it, I'd rather not see it come back if it wasn't intact.
Also on Heroes, sounds kind of like the old Wildcards novels. I'll be curious to check that one out.
One other thing that had struck my interest was that SciFi is producing a pilot for Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" series of books. The basic gist for those unfamiliar is that Harry Dresden is a professional wizard/private eye and his cases have a supernatural slant. Very enjoyable series and I'm looking forward to it coming out mid-year.

Some great stories in there, with William H. Macy (imdb.com) starring in one of them, to boot!
