After getting catty when no one congratulated him for this feat, he managed to tick me off enough for me to report the posts to the California Atty General.
Now, I doubt anything will happen with the crud, but has anyone heard of this type of thing resulting in an investigation?

I'm not sure what I want to say here. First, I don't know many computer types who haven't at one time or another used pirated software. So in that sense I think it's kinda silly that you turned him in.
On the other, if he was using it to help make money for a business, then really he should be forking over the cash. Basically I used to convince myself it was ok to pirate some stuff because I couldn't afford it. Once I could, and my wife got on my case enough, I stopped(well mostly) and now will buy what I want. But again, I never did it to earn money.
I guess what I think is the guy was lame for not purchasing something that was helping his business, but so are you for actually turning him in just cause he was being catty about it. He way more than you, but still.
And like I said, yes it could very well lead to him getting in trouble. The punishement really will depend on the loss that can be proven by the software manufacturer. So if he was small time, it'll be no big deal and the software maker may not even bother. If he was raking it in, and this software was a big part of it, he's screwed. | Eddie Famous

Oh that wasn't the whole reason. He was just downright stupidly insulting to me in many posts and IMs right afterward.
Still, logging on to a board to brag about stealing, well, it's pretty damn dumb.

I haven't heard back from the Cal. AG, didn't really expect to.
The guy ended up getting banned from the board two days later for attacking people and generally being an ass.
He acted plenty spooked in IMs to the board supervisor though. Sometimes in life the best you can ask for is making someone else uncomfortable, I suppose.
