Boy, it is going to be extremely difficult for Ohio State to beat Akron and Toledo at home without their head coach. Considering the struggles Ohio State has historically had against in-state schools, this really could be a death blow to the program.

I don't know how fast the NCAA will act on this, but considering he lied to them I would be surprised if they don't add to this punishment. But they don't suspend players or coaches for games, and they don't fine so that leaves...I dunno maybe no bowl game? Not sure if they'd go that far, but they get pissed when they're lied to.

That's really big of Ohio State to suspend their coach for two games (against those juggernauts, Akron and Toledo), while the players are suspended for five.

What a joke. Those players should have just gone pro.

At the very least, they deserve the USC treatment. No bowls and probation. Come on, NCAA. Show some spine.

Realistically I'd expect some scholarship reductions but not on the level of what USC got. Probably two or three for a couple years which is meaningless. But who knows, the NCAA has shown some teeth lately in certain cases while looking like their old wimpy self in others. But at least schools are slightly worried when investigators show up which is an improvement.

Bruce Pearl, Tennessee head basketball coach, also lied to them and has somehow not received NCAA sanctions against him . . . yet. His in-season suspension this year actually came from the SEC itself which I can't believe since I was under the impression the "C" in SEC stood for cheating.

The NCAA has made some very interesting decisions (Enes Kanter at Kentucky - I'm biased) and non-decisions (Cam Newton, the Ohio State football players) over the past couple of months. I'm wondering how sharp their teeth really are these days in the face of money from corporate sponsors who want the most eyeballs on tvs and asses in seats.

The USC decision shows they will punish severely if they get evidence.

While overall kinda meaningless, I do think it would be funny if they make Ohio State vacate the win they finally got over the SEC in their bowl game. I don't think they will since the punishement had been handed out by then, but they might have to vacate all their regular season games since he was technically playing guys he knew were ineligible.

And you might notice he'll be back in time for the game against Miami, which plays football on a whole different level than Akron and Toledo (with all due respect to the Mid-American Conference).

And of course one of the lead writers for Yahoo is saying they have two more big stories that will break this year about other schools violations.

He ranked this story an 8, the story to come shortly a 6-7 and one to hit in August as a 10.

Why he would know the story wouldn't be coming out until August I don't get, but I'm sure we'll hear tons of speculation between now and then and the other news outlets will likely try to figure it out and be first to report it.

I read that statement more like it was going to take that many more months to finish the article, rather than any particular timing. But I guess we'll see when the story before it is released.

On par with the rest of the SEC schools, IMO -- with the notable exception of Vanderbilt. Generally, we'll find a way to get a guy in if it's somebody we really want.
