It looks good:

Watching "The Ringer" is not unlike watching porn; after about five minutes one is both supremely bored and wondering whether to be ashamed or not.

There has been A LOT of online bitching about X3 (big shock) but I think the trailer made it look cool as hell. I guess that was the point of the trailer, huh? ; )

Is there a non-Quicktime trailer available?

I've still seen promising trailers like this and the movie still turns out to be crap. Plain and simple, Ratner and the new screenwriters can not and will not measure up to Bryan Singer. They won't bring his credibility to the storytelling or characters.

Can we at least wait until the movie comes out before we start bitching that it sucks? Can't we give it just a little bit of the benefit of the doubt?

I totally agree with TheVile1...give it a shot. You may be surprized with the outcome. I'm stoked about this movie, regardless of who directed it.

It's tough to go into the movie with anything but trepidation though. Ratner's the second director attached to the project, and he's not exactly a Singer-level talent behind the camera. Plus, he's talked about making the franchise lighter with more comedy. And he's refers to himself in the third person, which is just douchey. Then there's the script-not even finished by the time production started-and the production itself, which has been sinfully rushed. And finally the FX work, farme dout to a record number of different companies. I'm interested in seeing the final product, if only for the chance to see my fave X-guy, Hank McCoy, on the big screen, but my excitement is severely dampened by my knowledge of the incredibly shaky production.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Ratner is actually the third director to be attached to this project in a very short amount of time. First being Singer, second being Matthew Vaughn, and third being Ratner.

I'd give the movie the benefit of the doubt, but this is Brett Ratner we are talking about.

Actually, wasn't McG on board for a little while? In any event, I've always felt Ratner was a solid, workman-like director. I wouldn't expect anything innovative out of him, but if he just apes Singer (like he did with Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs), then we should still have a pretty fun product. The actors are all the same, and they know what they're doing even if the director and the scriptwriter don't (and I'm not saying they don't), so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic.

Well, if Vile1's spoiler is true, the movie can't be good as far as I'm concerned. That's my favourite character, and they already shat all over him in the last movie.

Well,

WARNING: Potential Spoiler Below Highlight text to read
James Marsden signed on to play Perry White's son in "Superman Returns." I believe the filming for the two coincided (or was pretty close to it), and they couldn't just have Cyclops running off to be by himself when they need to advance the storyline of Jean Grey becoming the evil Phoenix. And, if what I've read is true, and he really is "dematerialized" by Jean Grey in the movie, then depending on how it's portrayed in the film, it could leave his return open for a sequel (something along the lines of Jean just displacing his matter to another place or something equally goofy).

Also, why do you say they shat all over him in X-2? I didn't get that impression at all.

Well, it's just that---

WARNING: Not A Spoiler Per Se, But It Would Kinda Give Away Who We're Talking About Highlight text to read
He got bitchslapped into oblivion by a chick who didn't even speak. And who Wolverine handled promptly thereafter. And after that, he was a total non-factor in the rest of the film. I just don't feel he's been given a fair shake as the good leader, who makes the tough, not-always-easy decisions, which is not a glamourous or "cool" role in any media, but nevertheless is something that shows maturity and realism and was a subtext that I always admired about him in X-Men lore.

I'll concede though, that "shat all over him" may have been a rash choice of words, heh.

Entertainment Weekly has a brief interview with Brett Rattner up today. My favorite part:

and

The writers of this movie (Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg) are the biggest X-Men geeks on Earth. I did a test. I said, ''I wanna see a reference for every single scene in this movie.'' I didn't know that they had referenced the comics. I thought that some of the stuff was made up.

Based on some of the above spoilers and other stuff that's fairly well known about the movie (new characters and the like), I would LOVE to know what his 'references' were for those scenes.

Magneto: They say that they've found a cure for us. I say...we are the cure!
[Crowd cheers]
Juggernaut: YEAH! Hey, remember when you were a baby?
Magneto: Of course not. Nobody remembers when they were a baby.
Juggernaut: No, I mean the second time around.
Magneto: ...what?

Its nice PR and BS from Brett Ratner, trying to make it look like he and his crew know everything about the comics and are being faithful to them.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I don't think there was anything in the comics about Cyclops being disintegrated into nothingness at the beginning of the Dark Phoenix saga and then not being involved in that story at all.

Storm is clearly being made the star and leader of this movie. Ignoring Cyclops's promise in the first movie that he would take care of the school if anything ever happened to Xavier.

This was bound to happen as ABC was thouroughly dissapointed with the numbers that 'Boston Legal' was bringing in after Desperate Housewives would set up the table for them. Overall, I enjoyed the show tremendously.
