Here are the big ones:

The Flyers acquire Adam Oates from the Capitals for Maxime Ouellet and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks in 2003.

The Avalanche acquire Darius Kasparaitis from the Penguins for Ville Nieminen and Rick Berry.

As a Flyer fan I have to say OMG. Yes we did lose Primeau and Roenick last night to injuries but both are supposed to be back before the playoffs. The word is that Roenick will be out for 2 weeks. But giving up Ouellet for a 39 year old center is a lot. Ok, Oates may be 4th in the league in scoring but how much of that is because he is playing with Jagr? I wonder if he will have the stamina to go through the playoffs. They will resign him at the end of the season but Ouellet is a lot to give up. Rumors had Checmanek on the trading block at year end. The organization has been down on him all year long and Boucher has not looked good since losing the starters job. Boucher has a tendency to give up one bad goal a game just like Hextall used to do. I am stunned about this deal.

You're in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. It's crawling towards you. You reach down and flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over. But it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.

Rangers get Tom Poti and Rem Murray for Mike York - that's a deal I like - York is good but small and wears down in the 2nd half

Check this out:

Dallas sent Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner to the Devils in return for Jason Arnott, Randy McKay and a first round pick.

Wow, Nieuwendyk and Langenbrunner for Arnott, McKay and a pick. Devils win -- Nieuwendyk's got one or two more run to the Cups in him, and Langenbrunner is gonna score 20-35 goals a season for the next decade. I like Arnott though ... he just hasn't been able to put the complete package together yet.

Fear the Devils in the East, hockey fans.

the flyers gave away a goalie who potentially could be great in a few years, but it doesn't do them any good right now. although they're in no real danger of falling out of first place, they can let roenick and primeau take their time in coming back now. i think his age is irrelevant since he's consistently maintained a high level of play...kind of like that other ex-bruin some people thought was too old to contribute.

what happened to all of the paul kariya trade talk from a few months ago? anyhow, i still think the rangers made the best deals, even if they miss the playoffs.

I don't know about that-and I'm a Devils fan. OK, Arnott and McKay are having off years. But when you stick Arnott in between Petr Sykora and Patrik Elias, you've got a capable centre. OK, he's not perfect, but a lot better than his tenure in Edmonton. And Randy McKay is one of the few Devils players that represents the Devils. I mean, he was integral for the Devils' cup win in 1995, he was on the infamous Crash Line with Bobby Holik and Mike Peluso, he's been a leader for a while (he wore the A for awhile) and he was regarded as a gritty player who could still score 15-20 goals a season. It's heartbreaking to see him in another jersey now. And that first round draft pick is probably going to bite the Devils in the ass later on.

But I am optimistic about Langenbrunner. He's fairly young and has been a dependable defensive player. But he's only scored over 20 goals once before, so I don't know if I can see him doing that in NJ. Nieuwendyk still brings the goods, but he's also quite old. He won't be sticking around for a while. So basically, I'm torn on this trade. I do hope both players fit in well in NJ.

Oh, speaking of the Devils and trades, the Devils got Stephane Richer back for a conditional pick in 2003. Yeah.

When I heard about that deal, I rejoiced. Up yours Philly!

I can't stand the Flyers. They're a bunch of really dirty bullies. To watch them give up a league's ransom in potential talent (THREE draft picks and a goalie who's getting tons of awesome press) for maybe 20 games work out of Adam Oates is a sweet thing.

Bobby Clarke is a fool.

I can't wait to watch them choke in the playoffs and look like a bunch of complete and utter tools.

Can't stand the flytboys either - dates back to having to listen to Gene Hart screaming about cases of tastykake - Booby Clarke is an idiot on par with Phil Esposito when it comes to being a GM........I also hate the devils - if history holds true, this will be the year that Nieuwendyk will suffer his bi-annual playoff knee injury - Langenbrunner will definitely fit in well.....love both deals by my RANGERS but can't help think that it is just too late - the hole is pretty big and got bigger last night with that bad loss to Todd Bertuzzi

I'd just like to say that I love the NHL GMs for being the only ones in sports who still make trades like this. Arnott and McKay for Nieuwendyk and Langenbrunner?! And between teams that played for the Cup just two years ago? Beautiful. Rangers and Oilers exchanging Olympians? Beautiful.

I'd hate to play the Rangers now in the first round of the playoffs.

Arnott scored his first point as a Star last night with Modano on his wing - plus he had a redirect with about :30 left in the game that should have tied it, but Nabokov got ahold of it. If you put Arnott and Mo and Lehtinen on the same line - you have one of the best two-way lines seen in this generation.

Not as heartbreaking as seeing Nieuwy in a -=DEVILS=- sweater!!! That kills me!

The Stars had two gritty young players in Brendan Morrow and Langenbrunner - then they picked up Manny Malhotra(sp?) a couple weeks ago, who has a heck of a lot more potential than Jaime. IMO, Morrow passed up JL last year - he's able to do something when he gets in front of the net, and MM looks stronger on the puck everyday than most of JL's careeer highlight plays. That's not to say that he's not going to be a -=very good player=- in a few years - I just think that he needs a new system so he can develop other skills, at least for a while.

Cliff Ronning to the Kings!! Yeah.

I'm not a big Flyers guy either, mainly because I don't live in Philadelphia, but I'd like to see an old school team win the Cup. When you have storied franchises like N.Y.I., Chicago, Philadelphia and Toronto running around for decades w/out winning the Cup, it gets to people around the league. It's bad for the sport and having one of these teams win the Cup this season would mean that Detroit choked. Sweet.
