I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet: Yesterday was the NHL's trade deadline, and there was a flurry of activity. I had considered calling in sick just so I could follow the action (and hype) live.

I'm most interested in the moves the Pittsburgh Penguins made. Signing both Gary Roberts and Georges Laraque gives the super kids some protection for their playoff run.

The other intriguing moves had Bill Guerin heading to the Sharks, Todd Bertuzzi to Detroit, and Ryan Smyth (he of the most glorious mullet) joining the Islanders.

I hope I can still cancel the extra boxes of tickertape I ordered when Glen Sather traded FOR Pascal Dupuis a few weeks back. Underwhelming moves from my standpoint but the Rangers also didn't mortgage the future in order to make a run at 8th place.

Guerin-Thornton-Cheechoo should be a killer combo in San Jose. Bertuzzi is a doable gamble for the Wings. Conklin is a solid backup in Buffalo. The Thrashers got better but still don't have a chance to get past round 2. The Fishstick got Smyth and kept Blake - Garth doesn't look as much like an idiot these days. And the devils probably cleared enough cap space to resign Matvichuk now.

The Bruins traded for two defense-minded defensemen yesterday in hopes of bolstering their playoff chances....

I quit caring about the Bruins the nanosecond Ray Bourque first donned an Avalanche sweater. Since the lockout I have kind of a hard time caring about the Avs, but I'd say that is 100% due to the fact that the league's games are on Versus.

I'll admit I was intrigued by the Laraques-to-the-Pens deal. What's the record for fighting majors in a playoff series?

As a Islander fan, I was pleasantly surprised at the moves they made and feel they ahve a chance to make a deep run into the playoffs. However, Smyth, Blake and Zednick are all unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. I will be more impressed with Snow and his abilities as a GM if he signs Blake and Smyth to long term (5 year) deals.

Still, at least I can be excited about hockey on the Island for the rest of the season.

Do you think God knew what He was doing when He created woman? Huh? No shit. I really wanna know. Or do you think it was another one of His minor mistakes like tidal waves, earthquakes, FLOODS? You think women are like that? S'matter? You don't think God makes mistakes? Of course He does. We ALL make mistakes. Of course, when WE make mistakes they call it evil. When GOD makes mistakes, they call it... nature. So whaddya think? Women... a mistake... or DID HE DO IT TO US ON PURPOSE?
