Free-agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba will agree to a three-year contract with the New York Mets on Thursday, according to Torrealba's agent, Melvin Roman.
I know he might seem glamorous after that Rockies winning streak, but this is a terrible signing for the Mets. The contract details should be in later, but I hope they're not paying too much for a guy that hit .212 outside of Coors.
"Wocka Wocka...who wants to hear a funny-ass joke?"
Well I'm not real concerned with how well Torrealba hits. The Mets were a few runs short of being the third best offense in the NL and that was with Beltran and Delgado sucking all season. If the Carloses hit then the catcher's offensive performance is irrelevant.
That being said, I was hoping they would re-sign Castro and make him the starter.
Castro is being re-signed, too. He'll be the backup (and play more than he did when LoDuca was around).
Of course you're right that how well the C hits isn't a major priority. I wouldn't mind if we end up with Torreabla, Ruben Gotay, and Endy Chavez in the starting lineup if it means we can get a top starting pitcher.

Castro has resigned, 2 years, 4.6 million, so maybe he'll be the starter after all.

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets acquired Johnny Estrada from Milwaukee for reliever Guillermo Mota on Tuesday, moving quickly to plug their hole at catcher after talks with Yorvit Torrealba collapsed.
The Brewers get some relief help in Mota, who put up good numbers before testing positive for 'roids. Of course, whether he put up good numbers BECAUSE of 'roids remains to be seen.
More significantly, this essentially STILL spells the end for Paul Lo Duca in New York.
"Wocka Wocka...who wants to hear a funny-ass joke?"
So the Blue Jays couldn't have offered a better reliever to Milwaukee than friggin' Mota? Maybe they'll make an offer to Lo Duca. Anything than putting up with another year of Gregg Zaun's .250 bat, weak glove and no arm.
