Hey all,

So I am looking to drop a little cash on some wrestling DVDs on Amazon.

I have:

The Rise and Fall of ECW
Hard Knocks - The Chris Benoit Story
Wrestlemania X7
The Monday Night War - WWE Raw vs. WCW Nitro
Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops

Now, I'm not saying those are the best wrestling DVDs out there, that's just what I own.

I'd like to take a little survey of you learned lurkers. What are the best 5 wrestling DVDs out there (not WWE exclusive necessarily) in terms of best content, matches, extras, etc.

Thanks in advance for any contributions.

I feel like we had this list thread a week ago. Perhaps even at http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=24833

(That said, if anybody who DIDN'T already post in that other thread has a contribution, go for it)

I dunno, I searched on "ECW DVD" to find it. It also came up with "WWE DVD" but "wrestling DVD" wasn't very helpful. Also, it was in the "Movies & TV" forum instead of "Pro Wrestling." I can't blame you. (I WANT to, but I can't. ;-) ) And like I said, maybe someone new has something to tell you.

So, I admit to not reading the other thread. I am a sucker for nostolgia, so I think the best three are

Wrestlemania III
Wrestlemania VI

and the Ric Flair Collection

(OK, I really love Wrestlemania 2 also....)

Now, just wait a minute!

Hey, so if you wanted to use the Amazon link on the "Spend" page up there, that would be super.

The Ric Flair DVD's fantastic, of course, as is the WrestleMania XX DVD. In fact, I'd get the first four PPVs from 2004-- Royal Rumble, No Way Out, WrestleMania XX and Backlash. I enjoyed Mick Foley's Greatest Hits and Misses, too.

I thought Survivor Series 2003 was quite enjoyable for the brutal Kane/Shane match, the Buried Alive match between Vince and 'Taker that led to the return of the Dead Man, and the pure joy of watching Brock Lesnar tap out to the Crossface.

You want to watch the karo-net match, she wants to listen to music, so you compromise. You listen to music. You like Earth jazz, she likes Klingon opera, so you compromise-- you listen to Klingon opera.

Thanks, guys for the input.

As for non-WWE stuff, I just watched ROH's All Star Extravaganza 2, and it includes many clips from previous shows, thus making it an easy jumping in point, maybe? It's hard to tell, as I am already familiar with the product, but I think that was the idea they were going for. I'd also recommend that Wrestling Gold 5 disc set, which is older Mid-South stuff and Carolinas (I think), which features alternate commentary by Jim Cornette and Dave Meltzer on all the matches. I believe it's out of print now, but I bet you could find a copy if you really looked. Highspots.com also has 6 Classic St. Louis Wrestling dvds which, while I haven't seen any of them yet, sound really fun. Lots of old footage from Wrestling at the Chase.

I realize that none of these are available on Amazon (except for Wrestling Gold, possibly?), but I'd reccomend them over WWE dvds.

If you want to get the five that are probably worth the most money-wise, I would say:

-WrestleMania XX
-SummerSlam 2002 (Brock/Rock; HHH/HBK; RVD/Benoit; Angle/Mysterio)
-Royal Rumble 2004
-WrestleMania XIX
-From The Vault: Shawn Michaels

-The Hogan DVD has tons of stuff on it. The Steel Cage DVD sounds tempting, but I didn't think it was as good as it could have been. WWE picked some odd matches to put on there.

My favorite DVD's (besides the ones you've mentioned you have):

Hulk Still Rules
Ultimate Ric Flair Collection
Mick Foley's Greatest Hits and Misses
Rob Van Dam: One Of A Kind (which I didn't honestly think I'd like that much)
WrestleMania XX

But if you're tastes are more old-school and not necessarily WWE, I would also HIGHLY recommend some of the Jim Cornette/Dave Meltzer comp DVD's, such as Before They Were Stars and Night Of The Legends, which are both probably available at amazon.

Everything you wanted to know about Hal Kogan but were afraid to ask and also is completely wrong in the latest Inside The Ropes

I second the Meltzer/Cornette DVDs. I have those, as well as Wrestling's Future Stars (a lot of matches featuring some current WWE talent in OVW), which I also recommend. The Meltzer/Cornette commentaries are really interesting and insightful.

The answer to WWE's financial problems...

Never 'Wiener of the Day', and is actually quite bitter about it.

My personal DVD hitlist:

1) The Ultimate Ric Flair collection
2) Hard knocks - The Chris Benoit story
3) Mick Foleys greatest hits & misses
4) The rise & fall of ECW
5) From the vault - Shawn Michaels
6) Rob Van Dam - One of a kind
7) The Monday Night War
8) Wrestlemania XX
9) The Stone Cold truth(some great&rare extras on this one!)

AND WHEN WILL THERE EVER BE A CHRIS JERICHO 2 DVD SET???
AND A REAL STONE COLD 2 DVD COLLECTION???

DAMN IT! NOBODY REALLY NEEDS THOSE WARRIOR OR LOD DVDS!!!!
