According to CNN (sportsillustrated.cnn.com) Indiana has hired Tom Crean to replace Kelvin Sampson / Dan Dakich. I'm not an IU fan, but this looks to be a good hire. I would have preferred Dakich keep the job, because he's a great guy and would have been a good coach for the Hoosiers, but Tom Crean should do a good job of running a clean and non-controversial program.

As an alum, I'm perfectly happy with this hire.

Heck, they should have hired him instead of Sampson and this whole mess would not have happened.

Dakich was almost universally hated by the Indiana faithful, and was never tought of as a long-term solution. His tossing of Bassett and Ellis from the team in the last two days didn't endear him to his team OR the fans.

Crean, despite reportedly being a very close friend of Sampson, is thought of as a disciplinarean. He MIGHT get those two back on the team...and he might not.

Agreed - and how Rick Greenspan is keeping his job throughout this mess is mind boggling.

Crean's done a good job with Marquette, but in-state, the Golden Eagles are always going to play second fiddle to the Badgers. Good luck to him, and hopefully they can find someone competent to replace him.

The rumors going around the UK boards were that Bassett and Ellis were going to transfer anyway. Based on those rumors I would guess that Dakich dismissed them to save face. If Crean could reach out to Bassett and Ellis and get them back into the fold that would go a long way towards next season. If Crean could pull off a miracle and convince Eric Gordon to be a sophomore.....
