New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has won the Associated Press National Football League Most Valuable Player award for the second time, and got all 50 votes.

His previous win came for the 2007 season, in which he got 49 votes; a vote for Brett Favre prevented unanimity in that event.

Brady led the Patriots to a league-best 14-2 record, passing for 36 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He set an NFL record for most pass attempts without an interception, at 355.

However, the Patriots' season came to a surprising and disappointing end in the divisional round at home against the New York Jets. (Unless you're like me and you root for "my team first, and 'whoever plays against the Patriots' second".)

It's hard to argue with him getting the award, though I'm surprised Michael Vick didn't get any votes. (Is it a first-place, second-place, third-place vote system?)

The Eagles' best win of the season (a 2 touchdown win over Atlanta) was with Kolb under center. The difference between Vick and Kolb was maybe 2 wins.

Michael Vick was more impressive in any of his games than Tom Brady was in ALL of his (not stat wise but performance wise)

Aren't stats a measure of performance?

Only if the voting is done by a jury. :/

I usually respect your opinion, but this is so far off base that I have to ask, did you say this just to be inflammatory? Clearly the Eagles are a better team with Vick at the helm. I have no love for the Iggles or Mike Vick, but he deserved at least one vote.

It's the MVP, not the most outstanding offensive player. (I would have been fine with Vick winning MOOP, particularly if he played more games.) But I don't think it's crazy talk to say that while Vick led his team to a 10-6 record, Kevin Kolb could have and would have went 8-8. And that theory is supported by the fact that they were still able to beat Atlanta with Kolb playing and Vick hurt. So while they were a better team with Vick than Kolb, the Patriots were still a) much better, and b) MUCH better with Brady than they would have been with Brian Hoyer.

Let's also keep in mind that this is a one person, one vote deal. There's no point system where you vote for first, second and third place. No one thought that Michael Vick was better than Tom Brady. Move yourself out of Pennsylvania and you might understand that. [Yes, I went there]

Point taken, and agreed with. I think the celebration for the Pack clouded my judgement.

Unfair. Eagles were 8-2 with Vick starting and 2-2 with Kolb starting (I'm not counting weeks 1 and 17). And I see three games that the Eagles would've lost with Kolb instead of Vick.

I'm not suggesting at all that Vick should've gotten votes, especially given his performance at the end of the season, but to suggest that he was only marginally better than Kolb isn't right.

Congrats to you and the Packers.

As they said on the Post-Intelligencer website today, the big winner last night was Walter Jones and his agent. Your former castoff, Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack got torched for a couple of big plays last night.
