The following announcement has not been paid for because it's free.

Ticktock. Ticktock. Tick...tock. Last I heard, as soon as the east coast hits Friday, August 30th (that's really midnight the 29th...which is today) Major League Baseball's Players Association is on strike. What, praytell, happens to the D-Rays and Angels game? Yeah, I know, one of the last two teams to play in Major LEague Baseball will be the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Anyway, that's scheduled for a 7:05 start, which is fine. Well, it would be fine if they were playing Tampa where 7:05 is 7:05 Eastern, but they're out in California, so 7:05 Pacific is 10:05 Eastern, which means that in all likelihood, the game's not gonna end by midnight. I don't really wanna think about what's actually going to happen. If they stop the game right in the middle the fans are probably gonna do something a lot worse than what happened at the All-Star game. Ticktock. Ticktock. Tick...tock.

I'd like to think that they aren't that stupid. But then again, they are going on strike, so maybe they will call it quits in the middle of a game.

They'll finish the game. To stop in the middle of a ball game to go on strike would be the ultimate slap in the face to fans everywhere.

Rest in Peace, Chick.

They WILL finish the game. The player's association is so worried about creating a bad scene that they are telling the players to NOT go to the stadium, or be anywhere near the stadium, unless they've heard specific word that there is no strike. They don't want television pictures of players leaving stadiums.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the strike is scheduled for 3:00 pm on the 30th. The issue shouldn't come up for the D-Rays/Angels game unless they have the longest one in history (which would be an interesting historical footnote).

The first game that will be affected by the strike, when it happens, is the Cubs game tomorrow.

Rest in Peace, Chick.

Former ump fighting for life after stroke (sports.espn.go.com) I'm sure we all remember Gregg and "his large frame and large strike zone" (AP said it, not me) but I hope he and his family can make the most of whatever time he has left.
