So NWA TNA finally aired in my area (long island NY's cablevision picked it up).

Some thoughts...

Overall it had a very WCW Saturday Night feel. Just no one jobbing to Hacksaw Jim Duggan or The Barbarian. This is a good thing.

DX together again... whoop de doo. Neither of them can cut a promo.

Is what Road Dogg did to his hair a good thing or a bad thing? Can't tell.

Amazing Red vs. Shark Boy wasn't bad. Shark Boy used the Diamond Dust and is calling it the DSD. It's a great move no matter what the name is. Too bad it wasn't the finish. Red's moonsault had more twists than a pretzel. Not bad.

Ron Killings is one angry man. I would be too if I got a huge "overrated" chant as soon as I showed my face.

Lo Ki is like Vin Diesel's Mini-Me and sounds like someone is dubbing his voice like a Japanese Movie. I didn't think anyone that little could have that deep a voice. Really odd. Hey! There's the camera man in the mirror during the promo!

The match between Killings and Ki is cool. Some great moves, nothing too amazing. Lacked a bit of flow. In any case I'd rather see two young guys that the crowd is into than Shamrock vs. One of the Harris Brothers...

..Speaking of which, they're both on this show. The match with James Storm/Chris Harris vs. The New Outback Jack and Ron Harris doesn't suck. The Harris Involvement is kept to a minimum and it seems like the crowd is really into Chris Harris. Both Harris Brothers are made to look like monsters though. I can't argue too much, they dwarf everyone and at least Ron added a few moves to his arsenal.

Note to Randy Orton: Watch Elix Skipper to see how the move is done. The man sucks on commentary, put can still do the "Play of the Day" better than anyone else. I'm looking forward to seeing Skipper in a match.

The match with Jose & Joel Maximo vs. Jimmy Yang & Jorge Estrada wasn't so hot. Reminded me pf that match on Thunder a few years back with Modest vs. Daniels. It just didn't seem crisp, too many obvious helping one another out spots. The SAT's redeemed themselves with their finisher "Spanish Fly" at the end of the show. I can't even describe it. Best tag finisher I think I've ever seen.

Sonny Siaki vs. The other guy... something Young. Okayish. Sonny looked good. He may have been green a few years ago, but I think WCW would have had a star if they pushed him before the whole Thrillers-influx. They really buried Bobcat who was the other guy's former valet. I have no idea why. He lost the match and dumped the girl, so it doesn't look like he's got much. He supposed to be the master of the spinebuster though!

Lynn and Styles steal the show and look slicker than everyone else in the promotion hands down. They're the only two with music that doesn't sound completely dated (it doesn't sound good... but ya have to find the cherries here.) The ladder match had some incredible spots. Crowd seems really into both these guys. I have no idea why the went and did the Dusty finish. Really put a damper on it for me.

Mike Tenay is allright, still seems to overhype things. I'd take him any day over Schivone. Just like everyone says, Don West is terrible. A color guy that actually knew something about wrestling would help out alot.

That's about it. Good wrestling. That's all I ask for. Nice to get 2 hours uniterrupted.

According to the Torch recap, this guy in a white (KKK-esque) outfit showed up and attacked the Truth. I cannot begin to describe how tasteless that is.

I was born in a manger, like that other guy. You know, he wore a hat?

It makes Steiner attacking Booker T with a white bat look subtle, doesn't it.

He was masked, and wearing white pants and a white sweatshirt. There was no robe or anything. They may have hinted KKK with it, but they didn't outright dress him like it.

Shit, that's not as bad as the lightning bolts on Harris a while back...

//edit: I watched this show with 3 non wrestling fans, and they seemed to be pretty in to the X division stuff.

Note#2 : I thought this was the worst of the AJ / Lynn matches, and I can't believe they are going to the well with this match again next week.

I guess I did say at one point that I would pay every week just to watch those two. Maybe I was exaggerating a bit. I still like both of them, but I really wish they would mix it up a bit.

Yeah, sorry I left out the White Guy attacking Killings. That wasn't a high point. He just looked like a fat Mr. Wrestling II in a sweatshirt. But I'm sure everyone is justified in saying that it's a racist angle, because without a doubt that'll be what it turns into.

I left that out too.. they played the race card a few times during the show. I did laugh at Killings' silver spoon crack.

I would have also infinitely preferred Rick Steamboat to Bullet Bob.

I thought the Lynn-Styles match was good, but then again this is the first of their series I've seen. If this was substandard for them, then screw Cablevision for starting their coverage now. In any event, I still feel that the two of them looked far more polished than anyone else on the show, save for Waltman and Jarret.

Speaking of which, I think that if they want to cater to their audience (ME!) then a Jarret v. Waltman singles match would be far more appreciated than any further tag combinations.

I dunno, maybe you can't describe it because you didn't see it and have no idea what you're talking about. The guy was wearing a white sweatsuit; he looked more like a straightedge hardcore kid than a Klan member.

In other news, Jorge Estrada is pretty great. His AfroElvis look is awesome, and that hiptoss into a neckbreaker is super nice looking. (It's called the "All Shook Up," which is the other great thing about Estrada -- he names, like, every single move he does.)

Much as I dislike the Harris Boys, this current angle is pretty interesting and I haven't seen anything like it before. There's a number of good ways it could go -- none of which promise good matches or anything, but still, if I have to see the Harris brothers, I'll take this way.

I like the fact that guys like Elix and Red and the SAT are mixing it up with the main eventers. You never saw that in WCW.

Final note -- despite what some internet authorities report (read: Observer), Sonny Siaki's Money Clip is not the Roll of the Dice; it's like a reverse Roll of the Dice, with the guys facing each other. It looks good, too.

This was Don West's best show by far, in my opinion. His best line ever was when he mentioned some stat about the SATs or somebody and Tenay said, 'That's very observant. I'm impressed.' And West says in this sly voice: I stole it from your notes, my friend.' And Tenay was stunned, they played it off great. OK so they ain't JR and the king but that made me laugh.

Honestly I felt that this was their most solid, and maybe their best show of all wrestling-wise. Ki vs Killings was very good, Red vs Shark Boy was promising (I LOVE both guys) and Styles vs Lynn was, in my book, one of if not THE best TNA match to date. They completely stole the show with that match. And the SAT/Elvii match was great too. For whatever reason, all the characters I enjoy are the ones who get prominently featured. No sign of Disco, no sign of the Dupp Cupp, no midgets... They keep trimming the fat.

But is Russo's bag of tricks empty or what?? He gives us ANOTHER masked man mystery, and the Siaki/Elvis and AJ/Lynn feud just WILL NOT DIE. What are their motivations, even? Lynn/Styles started out as a beef over respect, and now...? Siaki quit the Elvises, burned his uniform... So why is he interfering in their matches now? I thought he said he was done with them?

Speaking of the masked man, he was in a white sweatsuit with the hood up, wearing a white mask. No outward indications that they will do a Klan angle, though the all-white could make one suspicious. The only thing that is certain is that in this instance, the portly invader was the man formerly known as the Road Dogg.

And my biggest problem with TNA is the run ins and DQs. Is it really that damaging to a worker to get a clean loss? When you have every other match end in a screwjob, the effect is lost. People don't get mad, they don't do anything. It has no effect and no shock value because it happens way too much.

I think NWA needs a big angle to light things up. They need their 'NWO' or at least their 'Dreamer/Raven'. But I guess it isn't that simple to come up with a compelling angle, especially when Russo is just re-hashing the same angles over and over. I think what might work to get more buys, is to bring in talent from Mexico nd Japan. If MLW can afford it, can't TNA? I think internet fans would buy at least once to check out Shocker and, say... Liger or Sasuke. Maybe they could get Taka to bring his K*DOJO or whatever the hell it is to try to dominate the X Division.

Anyway, the show was solid, very solid. One great match and 3 very good ones. Sadly the main event scene consists of the 1998 WWF midcard, but at least there's no Disco or Dupp Cupps or midjets.

Hey Fantomas, just curious. But seeing as you're from NY as well, where were they broadcasting TNA? You have a dish? Last night was the first show that cablevision played.

I was watching the PPV last night and for the first time in a while I was really looking forward to watching it. The show really had the "Old School" feel to it, right down to the biggest names not being directly involved in the Title Pictures. I think if this promotion can survive this concept they will be very entertaining to watch. And like was said earlier in the thread, this show is quickly becoming like WCW Satruday Night before Bischoff created Nitro. I am just waiting for the "Fans pick the main event" call in.

I have Time Warner cable, I guess they've been broadcasting it from the beginning. I started ordering the PPVs at episode 5. Sadly, this means you will never see their really bad preview commercial that they have since stopped airing, with ken shamrock screaming at the camera with a really dumb look on his face.

As a straightedge hardcore kid, I object to that statement!

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY wears sweatsuits in hardcore, let alone white sweatsuits... except for maybe Jeff from Breakdown. Wishingwell Records made white sweatsuits for Youth of Today, and Ray of Today said they looked like Easter Bunny suits.

If anyone knows what I'm babbling about, I'm impressed.

Hey Morgado, good to meet you.

You DO have a Champion pullover hoodie, right?
What color is it?

About the hooded man: Pat McNeil at the Torch had the best line when he suggested it was NWA TNA "Trying new ways to cover up our wrestlers' Nazi tattoos." Ha!
