A press release announced Billy Corgan is now president of the promotion, with Dixie Carter now in the new position of chairperson. Corgan is in charge of the company, Dixie has some nebulous future strategy role.
No one's specifically reporting the company got sold, but one of the conditions of any company was Dixie would keep a role in the company in a face saving position, and that sure looks what just happened. They've been existing from taping to taping for a while, and maybe this was just the point where they couldn't scrap enough money and had to sell to Corgan. Except, Corgan's been there for months, and must've not been offering that much if they waited to this point to sell. (Or, it's even possible Corgan himself was owed some money, TNA can't pay it, and they had no choice but to make a deal.)
Corgan's been around TNA for a while and I'm unsure how much this means for changes except for Dixie being removed from power. They've obviously made some changes in creative direction the last six months or so and it doesn't seem like they're going to go off that track. Corgan might have enough to buy the company, but he can't afford to keep losing money any more than Dixie, and there's still no obvious plan for them to turn it around. Dixie being gone, if she is gone, is a big deal, but this looks at the surface as just putting a snooze button on the death alarm and not turning it off unless there's a big money investor coming along with. (Corgan's own history running wrestling promotions is about as checkered as Dixie's.)
Please reply with a Smashing Pumpkins pun based title.
In 2016, the supposed number two national wrestling promotion just made an Alex Jones loving MRA conspiracy theorist President. You can't make this stuff up.
Well considering the impact (no pun intended) AJ Styles has had and the buzz Bobby ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO has generated by just showing up in NXT, this announcement makes sense considering Dixie Carter is the only home grown name on the TNA roster with name recognition.
Snideness!
I'm going to go with "1979", which is the total net worth of TNA.
