      Retirement? Not even close....
      Hey Gang!!!

It's been a while since I've posted a blog. I'm more into the daily updates. But the following is too long for an update.

It appears that I'm winding down at TNA. Unfortunately some organizations "leak" information to wrestling websites to put their spin on a situation, to make sure they come out in the best light. Not me. I'm gonna say it. I'm gonna put my name on it. And I'm going to stand behind it.

I came to TNA last year because I still had a lot of wrestling left in me. I was paid a fraction of what I thought I deserved. But I wanted to show I was still at the top of my game. Now my contract is up in May. I want a modest pay increase. They don't want to pay me what I think is fair. I have no problem going my own way.

But about 12 hours after the conversation where we didn't agree on pay, unnamed sources claim that I am hard to work with and that I don't give my best effort. My only response is that TNA made an aggressive effort to re-sign me, among other things saying that they want to build the women's division around me. And I think wrestling fans see, both on TV and at live events, that I always give 100%. I take pride in that. Smearing me on the way out the door is an act of second rate character.

I take pride in making my best effort to elevate my own wrestling and the entire TNA Women's Division. If people were rubbed the wrong way in the process, I stand behind my work and my positive intentions.

In closing I will say this. In the few weeks that I have left in TNA, I will be the same wrestler that you have seen for the past ten years. After that, I haven't decided if I will stay in wrestling, or finally make the jump to MMA. I do have a lot of irons in the fire. We'll see where life takes me. But wherever that is, there's gonna be competition, and I'm gonna give it my all.

      Thanks For All Your Support!!!

Later Taters, Lisa Marie Varon : )

Well then.

Define "modest pay increase".

Either way, I'll miss her. The way she's been booked the last few weeks has been terrible.

Another blow to the KO division. One of the reasons, Kong left was due to money as well. I remember reporting saying Kong got $24,000 a year which I find hard to believe, but it would explain why TNA has been profitable over the last few years. I hate to see her go since her heel turn has been interesting at least its not back to WWE where they have no real use for her. MMA would be cool maybe her and Gina go at it, worked for Brock. I could maybe see her doing half TNA/half MMA, but after the Lashley debacle that will probably never happen again. It sucks that TNA doesn't have the cash to keep her, so she is a sound investment for that company.

I made more than that six years ago as night manager of an independent video store with two locations (one in MD, one in VA), and I only worked 35 hour a week, on average.

I know a lot of the wrestlers lower down on the card make modest livings,

but I didn't think they pulled in an average of $2k a month. No wonder at the last MD championship wrestling event I was at, Dutt, Sabin, Shelly, and others were at the merch table for about a total of four hours pre and post show. They need all the supplemental income from dvd/shirt sales if they're on the low end of the income scale.

As a dutiful tool of the machine, I will add the comments she's responding to:

One person internally noted she’s definitely made her feelings clear about some of the women.

She said "After that, I haven't decided if I will ... finally make the jump to MMA."

Huh.

It's not that they don't have the cash, it's that they severely undercut a lot of their women. Christy Hemme makes megabucks, conversely.

This is what I've heard. I mean, TNA has the cash to hire Bischoff an on-screen secretary who does absolutely nothing except, I suppose, stroke Bischoff's ego by standing behind him and looking all sexy, so there's money floating around.

It just seems goofy to me. Hemme doesn't bring in any money directly as near as I can tell -- she has no merch, doesn't do house shows, etc. And yet she (apparently) makes more than any of the women wrestlers, despite the KOs actually popping ratings and doing so consistently since the division came into existence. Maybe Hemme is an excellent Goodwill Ambassador or something, or maybe she has administrative duties as well, doing video production or payroll; I dunno.

If I was cynical, I would probably think that this and the release of Kong and Flash while signing Hemme to a long-term contract and hiring non-wrestlers like Tessmacher and Chelsea while pushing Lacey Von Erich as KO Tag Champ is indicative of The New Management's opinion that women don't belong in the ring, and if they do, they'd better be blonde Divas or else. Luckily, I'm not a cynic.

Yes Tara has been booked pretty crappily but she hasn't done much in the ring to distinguish herself in her TNA run. TNA should have given Kim and Kong raises that they asked for. I can't say I'll miss Tara. Hopefully Mickie will be coming in which is a nice upgrade.

It was a looooong time ago, but I think on Edge's first Off The Record appearance he said his first WWE contract was for about 30K a year. This would have been his Brood time with Christian and Gangrel.

That was just the guarantee, but I can see how someone who isn't in the position to make a ton of bonuses off PPVs or merchandise could be making roughly what a full time kid outta school does.

Like Bret Hart's old agent said on Sportsnet a while back, the hardest part about being his agent was you had no idea what anyone else made. McMahon (and I guess TNA) wants to keep it a secret from everyone, other wrestlers included. Even if you DID somehow find out Hogan made X amount of dollars, how do you know how much was bonuses or merch. He said it made it incredibly difficult to try to make any counter offers on contracts.

Isn't it still the case for TNA that you work the one night a week plus PPVs, and you're free to take indy bookings otherwise? That would seem to explain lower pay - the national exposure alone figures to pay off to some degree.

(Or at least I imagine that's what management has been telling the supporting cast since they opened up.)

And any TNA house shows likely pay an appearance fee beyond 'salary', with some gate bonuses for top card talent?

So BOTH of them are botch-meisters? That's hardly fair. The lucha style is a very, very difficult style of wrestling. And it takes two to tango; I'm sure Heath Slater carries his share of the blame for mistakes in timing and execution.
