The Recap for TNA Impact 9.24.2010, taped from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

- We open the show with a recap of the Hardy/Angle situation, and Rob Terry heading down the to the ring, while Jeff Hardy desperately keeps RVD in check backstage. It's because Abyss is in action next, you see.

Match 1: Rob Terry over Abyss via DQ (Guardrail to Terry's face) in 4 minutes. It's two slugs going at each other for four minutes so I have no right to expect anything resembling good, and this doesn't disappoint. 0 for 1. Abyss detached a piece of railing and smacked Terry with it for the DQ. RVD got past Jeff Hardy and made his way to the ring through the crowd, all bandaged up. He took his sweet time getting to the ring, selling his injuries and all, which allowed the "TNA Agents" to chase Abyss to the back with chairs. Note that Abyss was ready for Van Dam with Janice, and that was likely to end badly for Rob, so he should be thankful. Apparently the influence of whatever Rob was on last week (when he should've been selling the hell out of this angle, like he did this week) has worn off and he remembers his injuries. This is lazy booking.

Rob gets on a mic and thanks everyone for the concern. He calls out Bischoff but instead gets a commercial break. Bischoff joins him in the ring and Rob is less than pleased about not having a chance to defend his title. He questions Bischoff's intentions, but then changes tracks and admits that there's nothing to be done now as the wheels are already in motion. He wishes the title contenders luck for their match at BFG and wants first dibs on the winner. He says he doesn't want to be seen as vulnerable and will return to action on 10/10/10, which is the recovery date his doctor gave him. How convenient. Bischoff makes the Abyss v RVD match, which Tenay tries to sell as a surprise, but I doubt anyone thought it wasn't gonna happen. Decent promo work from Van Dam, and he did a good job to drop the cool guy character and get some emotion/intensity to the forefront. It's miles better than the appearance he made last week. 1 for 2.

Van Dam leaves the ring, but the Pope is here! He calls Bischoff full of crap and he can smell him from miles away. He points out his various achievements and wonders why RVD got a title shot before he did. He also questions Angle and Hardy not winning their matches and still being in the main event. Bischoff says "I hope you're not accusing me of what I think you're accusing me of," which is SO STUPID. It sounds like a whiny threat when Bischoff should not be answerable to Pope at all. Why does Bischoff care if Pope is accusing him of anything? Did anyone understand what Pope was accusing him of? In any case, Pope backs off and they decide to discuss it backstage.

The Beautiful People are backstage and Lacey Von Erich is complaining about the bad treatment she received from Tara and Madison Rayne. TBP are mildly surprised by either Lacey's passion or acting skills.

Pope is backstage with Bischoff and stick to his reasoning of "they didn't win either." Bischoff should really reply with, "yeah, and they didn't lose either" and that should be the end of the conversation. Alas, it doesn't go down that way. Bischoff wants Pope to prove himself against Joe first, which should be a decent match if given time.

Match 2: Chris Sabin over Jeremy Buck via Schoolboy in 4 minutes. Sabin was out with a bandage and Shelley didn't show at all (as he's still injured). Max Buck got ejected from ringside for tripping Sabin. Jeremy dominated for the most part but got rolled up for the fluke win. Decent enough. 2 for 3. Predictably, The Bucks attack postmatch and nail that SICK hangman's DDT on Sabin again.

Backstage, Pope is bitching about being held back. Well, a lot of airtime for Mr. Dinero tonight. Jeff Jarrett is bitching about Pope's bitching, saying he needs to work getting reactions like Angle or Hardy and gain the respect of the fans by showcasing his skills in the ring.

Match 3: Knockouts Tag Titles: Hamada and Taylor Wilde over Lacey Von Erich and Velvet Sky via pin (Enzuigiri -> Wilde on Von Erich) after Madisonference in 4 minutes. Mostly forgettable. TNA really need to get over their obsession with that helmet. 2 for 4.

EV2.0 are backstage and WALKING! (tm CRZ).

A short history of Ink Inc. in TNA. It was actually pretty nifty and well done.

Dixie Carter (still on TV, unfortunately) announces a $100,000 battle royal at the October 7th Live show, featuring every wrestler performing at BFG. Taz suggests a $50,000 battle royal for announcers. Cute.

Match 4: Samoa Joe over The Pope D'Angelo Dinero via Submission (Koquina Clutch) in 5 minutes. It really should've gotten a couple of more minutes. Pope had Joe set up for the DDE but JJ came out to root for Joe, momentarily distracting the Pope. Then Nash and Sting attcked Jarrett and Joe caught Pope with the Clutch for the win. Silly booking aside, decent contest. 3 for 5. Postmatch, Joe goes to Jarrett's aid and fights with Nash.

EV2.0 are backstage with Hemme. Dreamer says they spoke with Dixie and she has agreed for a Lethal Lockdown at BFG with EV2.0 v Fortune. It's Sabu v Styles tonight to decide which team will have the advantage.

Mr. Anderson heads down to the ring to talk to his assholes. Call the man what you will, he gets the crowd to eat from his hands. He calls out Angle. He admits that he is what his T-shirt says (which you can buy online, cheap plug!) but he has respect for Angle and knows Angle to be one of the best. Anderson discusses playing politics and how "swinging from the boss's nuts" would be impossible in their case. Nice. Anderson gets in a nice line, saying he will be "three seconds better" than Angle on the PPV. Angle reiterates that wrestling is everything for him and that people think of him as a freak because of his determination. He promises that he will not lose at BFG because "without wrestling, without these ropes, without this ring, without these people, [he] is nothing." Anderson raises his hand, saying "Kurt Angle, everyone, for the very last time." Angle yanks his hand and walks off. Excellent promo work. 4 for 6.

We immediately cut to the back, where Kazarian, Flair, and Styles are causing much commotion with a bottle. Some hilarity ensues with said bottle. I'm not sure if they mentioned the ladder match at all. This whole segment was unnecessary, and they should've gone to a commercial to let the Angle/Anderson promo sink in, much like last week's Dreamer promo.

Nash and Sting bump into Pope backstage, wondering if he has some useful information. He hesitates but they rightly point out that they saved him not too long ago. Nash asks if Pope's been spending time with any "broads," to which he responds he spends time with "all kinds of broads." Ok then. Nash mentions Tessmacher specifically, and Pope is all "you know?" Sting says that's what they've been fighting about. Pope says they can count him in. CONTINUITY~! This did a good job of tying a few things together - remember Pope and Nash have both spent..ahem..quality time with Tessmacher in the past few weeks and probably she's not too good with secrets. It also sheds a bit of light on the "accusation" from Pope earlier, in that he probably has an idea about Bischoff's intentions. I think it will all tie into the "They" mystery, and there are certainly enough signs of a Bischoff heel turn. I can only hope it doesn't lead to a Hogan v Bischoff faction feud again, because I need not see that in 2010.

Match 5: Ladder Match: AJ Styles over Sabu in 15 minutes. Bald Sabu = superheel. This was a good main event with a horribly overbooked, screwy finish. Sabu looked to win on several occasions while EV2.0 and Fortune brawled at ringside. Sabu climbed the ladder only for Roode and Storm to foil him. Eventually he succumbed to the BEER BOTTLE OF DOOM (TNA's most favorite foreign object ever) and Styles was able to get the key and the man advantage. My main problem is not with the match but with the complete lack of hype for this match. They really should've announced it last week or at the very top of the show and hyped the hell out of it. I expected the screwy finish and the heel team should ALWAYS have the man advantage at Lethal Lockdown so we'll go with the All's Well that Ends Well philosophy and call it a hit. 5 for 7.

Jeff Hardy and RVD discuss their respective matches at BFG and they hug and RVD limps away. Abyss attacks Hardy (presumably with Janice) though we don't see the actual attack. The timing was poor, because there was no way Abyss didn't see Van Dam leaving the place. Or maybe he thought he'd done enough damage to him.

Abyss brings an unconscious Hardy to the ring and dumps him there. He grabs a mic and says RVD was never supposed to come back, but now that he is, it only proves how ignorant and pathetic Van Dam is. LOGIC~! He says he made a mistake and left Van Dam breathing but he'll correct that on 10/10/10. So murder threats, kidnapping, and branding are all legal in Florida. I think Abyss is contractually obligated to say "10/10/10" at least once every two sentences. He promises that They will slaughter RVD but Janice doesn't want to wait till then. Abyss calls out RVD and he answers in all his infinite wisdom. Abyss begins ripping at Hardy's clothes but RVD blasts him with chairs. He gets wiped out in short order, though. He sets him up for some Janice love and Impact goes off the air! W...T...F, mate? I didn't get the Reaction overrun this week, so I'm relying on Chris Lansdell of 411 here. Inc Ink make the save. Random! And with that we end the show. Gratuitous violence and complete ignorance of the legal system aside, Abyss just comes off SO CARTOONY! I know what they're trying with the psycho character and it's honestly not working for me. I can't take him seriously. 5 for 8.

Wrestling Counter: 32 minutes.

The Score: 5 for 8. Lots of talk and not much action, but most of it worked. They set up two big matches for BFG and nothing on the show was offensive. Illogical, sometimes nonsensical and sometimes just silly, but nothing unwatchable and nothing ridiculous. That's gotta be the way forward for TNA. Steady and solid.

Remember a few months ago, when Pope Dinero was getting Orton-level pops and was the closest this company had to an absolute, can't-miss, sure thing?

Yeah, that's the same guy that they just turned into a whiny heel tonight.

Idiots.

Attending the house show last week, Pope was one of the most over guys they have next to Jeff and Joe. His merchandise was selling well too. The only thing I can think of its they need a heel who can go in the main event who isn't AJ and doesn't have to rely on garbage wrestling like Abyss. If it puts the belt on him faster and they make him some sorta corporate Rock with the singalongs then it might work. Having said that, I think they are making a mistake and probably should have had Anderson keep playing tweener/heel trying to get in the match while Pope got into the BFG match.

Bound for Glory is their Mania and it shouldn't be this messy. It reminds me of WM 2000 where from week to week, the people in the match changed and it lead to a what I consider the worst booked WM main event in the modern era ie WM 14 til now. Your biggest PPV of the year should have clear line for its Main Event. The rest of the card will shape up in the next week or so, but there doesn't seem to be a can't miss match so far. Mickie coming in as a "surprise" seems to be the only thing that maybe worth seeing. For all this 10-10-10 nonsense, it had better lead to something amazings or they have wasted six months on this Abyss push for little or nothing.

I Didn't Watch but I think the idea is that Nash, Sting, and Pope will all end up babyfaces and Bischoff, Jarrett, and maybe Hogan are the heels and They.

They have changed the title match from one on one to three way.

I am getting the same vibe. Russo does like to book these layered, intricate angles. Even if they are occasionally stupid.

Angle and Anderson had very good matches together, Hardy and Angle had (in some peoples opinions) a MOTYC candidate. Throw them all together and it should be quite solid. I am not sure what else they could have gone with as a main event for the biggest show of the year, as these are arguably the 3 biggest stars in the company.

Not booking a pointless tournament and instead building towards an Angle/Hardy singles match probably would've been smarter. But they don't know what they want to do next week let alone over three months so the outcome isn't surprising.

Come on, Juan. Just watched this show and I won't argue with the placement error, but Crash TV never dictates the right pace

The hilarity was the rest of the gang telling Naitch he got ICED. Flair was handed a SMIRNOFF ICE™
beer, not knowing the joke. I didn't either - Kaz explains:

"Whoa Whoa - you never got 'Iced'? You gotta take that Cheer beer, get down on one knee and POUND it, Doctor! The girly drink! I'm sorry, that's the rules"

Flair: "Hey! This is a GIRLZ DRINK! The girls drink this! How many? "The Gang: ONE(just one)ONE!" Flair: "And THAT'S going to make me the Nature Boy? Pound this!?!....wowwwwwwwww(sarcasm)...Wooooooooo!

Down on one knee, Flair chugs the beer, and considering the beer, he does way better than Austin did with LIGHT BEER. Is Flair so broke he has to go around to local bars and do this trick? This was not "Russo". I'm sure this happened in a bar and someone thought it would make a good skit (but inserted into the wrong part of the show, Russo). Which is fine by me - if Flair wants to show his ass, better this than HIS ASS. Just tell me were I can get the live version and I'm there

Flair tosses the empty over his shoulder, slides upright like a true professional and struts / WHOOOOOOOOOs! his way out the door
