The Recap fro TNA Impact 5.8.2009, from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

- We open as we almost always do, with the Main Event Mafia coming down to the ring. Angle gloats about how he kicked Foley's ass with Sting's help. Angle says he wants Mick to keep his dignity, and that's why he didn't take the position of "Executive Shareholder" from him. Wouldn't it be fun if you could become the "Executive Shareholder" of anything by simply wiping the floor with the man currently in power? Angle says that his sacrifice for getting into the Four-Way Title match at the PPV is that if anyone pins him, that man becomes the Godfather of the MEM. Interesting. He also wonders about why the MEM didn't know about the huge 10-man tag later tonight. He demands an explanation from Foley and here is the Hardcore Leopard himself. Foley explains that the main event tonight is a show of power. He goes on to recap the events of the past few weeks, but then he brings up his stitches and Angle shuts him up by pointing out that HE won an Olympic gold medal with a broken neck. Foley reveals his team to be JJ, Joe, Daniels, and Styles. Angle promises funerals for them if they come out to fight. Foley and Angle go at each other (verbally), only to be interrupted by Jeff Jarrett, who is apparently completely left out of the loop. JJ is pissed, but Foley is in a reconcillitory mood, and tries to repair the damage. JJ asks him to kiss his ass, but Angle has good advice for both as he tells them to prepare for the match tonight. "Can't we all get along?" - Angle. Tremendous. This segment lacked any real focus, and there was way too much going on all at once.

- Backstage, Samoa Joe is dropped off by a mysterious driver. INTRIGUE~!

Non-Title: Suicide over Consequences Creed via Knee Jawbreaker in 4 minutes. The announcers spent the entire time quibbling over the identity of Suicide, who was most definitely not Daniels this week. Match was mostly an Impact Special (tm), going about **.

- In Foley's office, Matt Morgan wants an opportunity to prove himself to the MEM. Foley tells him the best way to make an impact is to take out one of the MEM's security men. What a bastard!

- Lauren is with the Beautiful People. Velvet Sky is shitting bricks because she has a stretcher match coming up with Kong. Love says it'll be ok if she can just stay out of the way of Kong. No shit, Sherlock! But Velvet calls her bluff, just where in the hell is she supposed to go. Angie makes more empty reassurances, but she knows Velvet is dead meat.

- We get the weekly obligatory sit-down interview with the MEM. Angle speaks about how egos flare and friends become enemies, but sometimes that's how a family works. He says at the end of the day they respect and love each other. Sting says they're a bunch of strong-willed individuals who realize that they must work together to reach their goals, one of which is to hold all titles in TNA at once. Nash says that despite the issues between Sharmelle and Jenna, they worked together in the main event last week and that speaks for itself. Sharmelle doesn't seem to buy into this but goes along with it. Angle says that at Sacrifice he will avenge Sting and win the title. Steiner chips in by saying that his relationship with Jarrett is history, and the MEM will not stop until they run TNA.

- Lauren and Taylor Wilde discuss Awesome Kong's state of mind before moving onto Wilde's secret admirer and their date next minute. What a waste.

- JB is with Jeff Jarrett and asks him a question about Foley losing his mind. JJ says he'll deal with Foley on his own terms. Then JB starts asking some uncomfortable questions, so JJ tosses him from the locker room.

Handicap Match: Matt Morgan over MEM Security when he pinned one of them with the Carbon Footprint in 3 minutes. Matt Morgan's new entrance is nearly a direct rip-off of Chris Masters' entrance. The match was nothing.

- Mick Foley's "tweak" to the main event is banning Jarrett's guitar from ringside. JB has the unfortunate task of telling this to Jarrett and Foley is not to be bothered from now on, as he is preparing for the main event.

- Lauren is with EY and Jethro Holliday. Young says he knows all of Beer Money's weaknesses since he has PPV wins over both of them. She asks Jethro for comments, so he blows a SNOT BUBBLE on her! HAHA! I don't like Lauren anyway.

3D Invitational Semifinal: Beer Money Inc. over Eric Young and Jethro Holiiday when Storm pinned Young after the DWI in 5 minutes. Fun, bell-to-bell tag action is a personal favorite of mine, and the reason I seem to favor Japanese wrestling quite a lot nowadays. This was a small glimpse of that, and it is appreciated. *** Postmatch, 3D and Beer Money engage in the STARE OF DEATH~! With RESPECT~.

- Random Pointer: Bubba Ray addressed Jim Ross's recent comments that tag wrestling is no longer a priority, saying it may not be a priority in the company that Ross works for, but it is in TNA. While references to WWE are not necessary, this is a good opportunity for TNA to distinguish themselves and focus a bit on tag wrestling.

- Awesome Kong promises to make a "dumb blonde" a "dead blonde." That was succinct. I think this is the first time Kong has spoken on Impact, but it's not made out to be a big deal. And she follows it up with...

Stretcher Match: Awesome Kong over Velvet Sky after FIVE Implant Busters and an Awesome Bomb in 4 minutes. Note to self: never make Kong angry! Boy, did she follow up on her words. Velvet took the beating like a champ. Good fun all-around **.

- We have another of Abyss's sessions with Dr. Stevie. Stevie has a surprise for Abyss - Daffney. He wants Abyss to transfer his aggression to Daffney, which I obviously interpret in a perverted way, but apparently he only wants him to be in her corner for the Knockouts Monster's Ball at Sacrifice.

- Lethal Consequences call out Christopher Daniels (who I think is just "Daniels" now) and basically accuse him of being Suicide. Daniels shows up and tells Creed that if he was concentrating on the match instead of trying to find out who was under the mask, he wouldn't have gotten beat tonight. Burn! Lethal calls out several double identities, including Savio Vega and Kwang(!), but Daniels says this is no time for jokes and that Lethal is the biggest joke in TNA right now. Lethal drops the Macho act and slaps him, so he and Daniels go face-to-face. The Motor City Machine Guns come out to observe and we get the awesome that is Alex Shelley on the mic. He accuses the crowd of being moronic videogamers and Daniels of stealing his title in the same sentence, adding that the title is a lot less sexy now! He says it doesn't matter because next week they will unmask Suicide and show that it is Daniels under the mask once and for all.

- JB hits the Jarrett office for some discussion about Foley. Before that can really develop, Sting comes out to demand a shot in the main event at Sacrifice. JJ reminds him that he has to make a sacrifice to get into the match, and Sting says that if he pins Foley tonight, he'll make the ultimate sacrifice to get to the title one more time. Well, that pretty much gave away the result of the main event.

- Backstage, Angelina Love is losing her mind, and rightfully so. She's on the phone, asking someone to come to Impact to save her from Awesome Kong, as Sky and Rayne have been "killed." Well, after tonight's beatdown, I don't fault her choice of words.

Ten-Man Tag: Main Event Mafia v Jeff Jarrett, Mick Foley, Daniels, AJ Styles, and Samoa Joe: Foley gets a nice dig on JJ by cancelling out his pyro. The match is ok in spots, but with so many hobblers on both teams, it can never get too good. The quick tags hurt the flow of the match as well, and no face was ever given the time to build crowd sympathy. They kept mentioning that JJ's bat is banned, but it makes no sense since the match is not no-DQ anyway. JJ even hit a Pedigree on Angle! The finish comes when JJ wants to wipe Angle out with Foley's bat, but Foley takes it away, because it's HIS. It pisses off JJ enough to give Foley the Stroke on the bat, and Sting takes full advantage by pinning Foley around the 11-minute mark. Decent enough match, though the focus was only on a few performers. It was like everyone got a minute and a half to do whatever they wanted before the big finish, and that feel hurt the flow of the match. Enjoyable nonetheless. **1/4.

- Sting's "ultimate sacrifice" is that if he is pinned at Sacrifice, he will retire. Hmm. That's a big announcement to close out the show.

Wrestling Counter: 27 minutes.

--> The focus on the value of the TNA World Title with everyone having to put something on the line to get into the title match is excellent. As usual, TNA continues to build only the main event of an upcoming PPV, but if that leads to a show like this, I won't be complaining. I'm also digging the new Foley character, who is most definitely entertaining, even though he has no reason to be anywhere near the main event.

-->A solid **1/2 on the PES.

Show wasn't too bad. Not as good as last week.

I missed the first 15 minutes, but figured it would just be a promo. Surprise!

Creed vs. Suicide was fun. You didn't think that was Daniels? I dunno, he sure hit that STO like Daniels. Do you think it's Kaz again?

You're not INTRIGUED? There are so many mystery people now I can't keep track -- Wilde's admirer, Joe's driver, Angelina's protection (I thought maybe that'd be Moose until she mentioned "man on woman violence" -- it'll probably be the return of Cute Kip, huh?)...with any luck one of them will be Elijah Burke, just about the only WWE release I'd be excited about TNA picking up.

I like that Matt Morgan is still a political wheeler dealer; it's consistent.

I thought Morgan's new hooded cloak is pretty swank, and the entrance isn't a Masters rip off, despite what you and Randy Harrison say -- why, Morgan has a hood!

For the record, MEM Security is Sally Boy and Big Rocco, with Sal eating the pin this week. Man, Rocco is a huge dude, just about as wide as Sal is tall. That can't be healthy.

I'm ambivalent about Eric Young (although he can be quite good) and not excited about "The Outlaw" Jethro Holliday (Murdoch). They keep dropping hints about Holliday's tag partner (Cade, obviously, or whatever they'll call him -- I dunno, "Travis Paradise"), but I dunno. I'd rather see Holliday 'n' Cade as a team than Holliday as a single, but I'd rather see Elijah Burke than either of 'em.

There were a couple of small hints at Young/Holliday dissension, but maybe it was just meant to emphasize that they're not really a team in the first place.

I liked Jay Lethal being called a joke, causing him to drop the "Macho" act, although they need a script-checker -- "You're the biggest JOKE in TNA" -- "No, YOU'RE the JERK." What?

Knockout Monster's Ball? Man, Roxxi is MADE for that -- too bad she quit. Daffney's a gimme and I already expect her to win, but who else do they have that can sell the stip? ODB, sure, and...geez. They should bring in Wesna Busic and LuFisto. (Or at least bring back Moose!)

I liked that the Originals were POed at JJ for blowing the match rather than just...disappearing or something.

So so far we've got Sting sacrificing his career, Angle sacrificing his leadership, and Foley sacrificing his title -- I assume next week JJ will sacrifice his job? I really like the idea behind this match, to be honest. I'd rather Styles put up the legends belt or Joe put up...uh, his knife, but it looks like it'll be another all-old-guy match. Well, JJ and Angle can hold up their ends, at least.

It's just a gut instinct rather than any concrete information, though. To me, the guy out there today did not physically match the Suicide from past weeks where it was obviously Daniels. Daniels is more slender than this guy, methinks. I can't guess what shape Kazarian is in nowadays, but I don't see who else it can be. Also, the sudden change in finishers is odd. I wanted to link to 411/Wiki/whatever with some proper info, but I couldn't find anything concrete.

I don't watch TNA, however if I did it will be in large part due to the both of you and your recaps and commentary. You guys should do a podcast or something, I think it would be pretty good!

You know, I really don't know what to put here. Close your eyes and thank of something funny!

The Machine Guns have been gold on the mic the last few weeks. I don't know if they get all the credit, or if Russo deserves some too (yeah I said it) but bravo either way.

I like the idea of the PPV main event tying into the name of the PPV. Complain if you must about TNA, but that's a unique idea for them for a change.

Uh, did I miss something, why is he just called Daniels now? I don't get it.

Because Christopher is a wuss name, of course.

(<-- is named Christopher)

I'm hoping that whoever turns out to be under Suicide's mask, it's *not* Kaz. Nothing against Kaz, but I'd like it to actually be a surprise. Hey, maybe it's DDP! Or not.

Roxxi quit? Bleh. Looks like she got her hair cut for nothing, after all.

I believe the deal is Daniels is still working as Suicide now, but Kaz is scheduled to be back in time for the PPV. And I guess it was someone else on this show?

"Christopher Daniels" own his own name and isn't going to hand that over to TNA. TNA insists on owning the name of everyone new now, but they can't well change Christopher Daniels name to something else. Somewhere along the line, they decided "Daniels" is different enough that they can own that, and so that's what's they'd like everyone to call him.

Unless Kaz has gotten bigger during his off time that didn't look like Daniels or Kaz under the Suicide mask. This angle is great though. MCMG and Daniels are great on the mic. Jay was great with his "you're suicide! you're a shape shifter!" and Kim Chee comments. Creed is not great on the mic but he won't get better unless they give him a chance. This angle even led to some good heel commentary by Don West. I liked when Creed took control of the match against Suicide early and West commented that Suicide was losing because Daniels was just in the ring in the previous segment and had to go back and change quickly.

I'm not sure I like the name Daniels by itself but I'm glad they dropped the "Fallen Angel" gimmick since they never really explained what it meant during his many years in TNA.

I like the idea of the Sacrifice match. It's too bad it's going to be old man match. I wish somebody would put something silly up for grabs every week trying to convince Mick to put them in the match, like their comic book collection, even if they don't get picked for the match.

The tag team match was eh, but I thought Team 3D did a good job on commentary putting over the other teams, especially Beer Money and British Invasion. I'm hoping the British Invasion gets the upset win on Beer Money in the Finals.

Cute Kip makes sense for Angelina's back up but I hope that isn't it. Unless he shows up and gets squashed by Kong. That would be awesome.

That's what I predicted two weeks ago, although I thought the order would be different. I thought Jarrett would put up control of the company first as a way to lure the MEM folks in. I still think this is a Jarrett/Foley setup and we'll have about a month or so of one of them as the head of the MEM after the match.

One question that I'm not sure TNA has made clear -- does the winner of the match automatically get the title too? Or does Foley lose the title only if he gets pinned? Everything else only the person who gets pinned makes the sacrifice, but in four-way title matches, there's always the deal of how a champ can lose without taking the pinfall. Is that the case here, or does Foley have to eat the pinfall to lose the belt?

I was wondering the same thing, but the way it shakes out with who's putting up what, I think the title only changes hands if Foley is pinned. Still, it is the sort of needlessly complicated stipulation that has become the hallmark of TNA booking.

I did Queezy's idea of seeing people try to put up half-assed things to get into the sacrifice match. As long as they didn't give it too much time.

Daniels should put up the truth about his secret identity. Then, of course, if he eats the pin he can just reveal that he was Curry Man.

During the Dr. Stevie skit, In the beginning I believe Abyss mentions that he can't figure out if Micheal Scott is an idiot or a genius. Was that really wise to reference TNA's time slot rival around the time that said rival is actually on tv?

Daffney makes me go wowzer in my trousers again this week. And the "Who is Suicide" story involving the Machine Guns, Lethal Consequences, and Daniels made up for the lack of Cody Deaner this week.

The Daniels promo was pretty cool; if for anything, the Kwang reference. I don't think Savio was portraying Kwang at the same time as being Savio.

In any case, I would have loved to see Savio's face when they brought that nugget up.

I didn't think about that. Didn't Kurt Angle also reference Savio Vega a few weeks ago when Jarrett had a mystery opponent for him?
