The Quick and Dirty for TNA Impact 3.12.09 from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fl.

- We get a recap of last week's mess and start the show with West MIA. Kurt Angle comes down the Obligatory MEM promo, saying that Jarrett threw him out of the building last week to impress his "butt buddies." Angle calls out JJ, telling him that tonight it'll be Jarrett, and at Sunday it's gonna be Sting. Jarrett comes down to the ring but Foley and BG James contain him. Foley (complete with a jacket that looks like it was made from a 15-year-old couch) says he trusted Angle when he invested in TNA, but now he sees that Angle's just lost it. He says the only one worth trusting is Sting, and at Destination X, Sting will end Angle's reign of terror. Foley tries to talk Angle into taking a shot of him (since JJ is gone) so he can "Cactus Jack his ass." But Angle wisely backs away and Foley stands tall.

- Backstage, Cornette ih his office is putting over Cactus Jack when Sting appears. Cornette wants a favor from Sting, that being sharing the limelight with some younger stars. As a result, we're gonna have a 1-on-1 tonight with Sting's man v Angle's man. I remember this being the whole purpose of the MEM storyline, but then that was defeated many weeks ago.

- We get Lauren with Jenna Morasca, who is a Survivor winner and apparently made millions more from her initial million. She sounds like she's another investor in TNA World. The Hardcore Leopard leads her away to talk business.

- Matt Morgan pops up to accept the challenge for the 10000 thumbtacks match, but Lauren tells him that Abyss is done mutilating his body. Morgan promises to get what he wants one way or another and grabs Lauren's ass, so she slaps him and runs away. I smell a Lauren turn.

- West is back and is apparently drunk, but gets a nice dig on ring announcer Dave Penzer.
Match 1: Rhyno over Sheik Abdul Bashir via rollup in about 4 minutes. The match was completely overshadowed by Tenay/West bickering throughout. Bashir smacks Rhino with a chair afterward, presumably setting off a feud that I have little interest in. Match was ok while it lasted, so it gets *3/4 on the PES.

- Backstage, TBP announce that tonight will be Madison Rayne's initiation into a new sorority called Mi Pi Sexy. Seriously? Mi Pi Sexy? I believe Karlos called this move about two weeks ago, so full credit to him.

- Backstage, Angle is looking for someone to wrestle on his behalf, but the rest of the MEM is preoccupied. Booker heads to Cornette's office where Cornette berates him for having cops on the property all the time. Well, a guy ransacks his room and randomly ambushes him every week, it's understandable. Booker gets his belt back when he signs a release. Cornette goads him into a signing a contract for Destination X for a match against AJ Styles.

- The Win-a-Date with ODB contest will have it's finals at the PPV, which makes me think that somehow Cody Deaner will be in the spotlight. They FINALLY announce the participants in the Ultimate X, it's Shelley v Sabin v Suicide v Lethal v Creed. Should be fun.

- Eric Young begs Sting to give him a spot in the match later tonight, but Sting is reluctant because he fears for Eric. Eric wants him to give him the spot like Ric Flair did to Sting, and that's too much for Sting, so caves in. Emotional Blackmail!

- Samoa Joe video airs. He says he was the future of wrestling, but then something went wrong. It's time to start over and the Nation of Violence begins at Destination X in three days.

- Backstage, Lethal Consequences are with Lauren, where they say that they're tired of being the doormats of the MEM. Tell that to the bookers. They say that tonight, it's gonna be "Morales and Santana" as their partners, but it's just LAX. Hernandez says it's time to kick ass, starting now...

- Angle tries to talk Kiyoshi into being Angle's wrestler tonight, but there's a communication breakdown. Angle kicks Kiyoshi down, and No Limit just watch. Dumb.

Elimination Match: Matt Morgan and Beer Money over Abyss and Team 3-D in about 10 minutes.
- Storm pinned Devon with a low blow and the Last Call.
- Storm got DQ'd for spitting beer in Ray's face.
- Ray pinned Roode with the Bubba Bomb.
- Morgan pinned Ray with the chokeslam.
After that, it came down the Abyss and Morgan, with Abyss eventually going for the bag of tacks that Morgan had brought. Lauren came to plead with him, so Morgan clocked him with the Carbon Footprint for the win. The Abyss/Morgan portion was pretty nice, but the rapid eliminations didn't do the tag teams any favors. All the guys had their boots on, so the match is a solid **1/2 on the PES.
- Postmatch, Morgan threatens to chokeslam Lauren on the tacks, so Abyss clocks him and the thumbtacks match is back on. The heel turn is painfully predictable.

- Tenay and West discuss the happenings and West calls Lauren a "dumb blonde." Well, she is! Tenay says he should just leave, so West says he'll be "at the hotel bar." So he's a drunk commentator whose main purpose is to rail on Tenay? That makes him a face in my book! Foley replaces West. Thank god, I could not have sustained solo Tenay again. Abyss cuts a rambling promo where he promises to put more holes into Morgan that he can count. He's gonna make Morgan his bitch on Sunday so he can avenge himself. His REAL bitch tries to convince him otherwise, but no go.

Taylor Wilde over Madison Rayne via rollup caused by Traci Brooks in about 2 minutes. A dull match, about the level of a standard Maria v Kelly Kelly match. There's a lot of effort put into it, but it's just not very good. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. 1/2* on the PES.
- Postmatch, TBP clean house on the faces, leaving them lying.

- Backstage, JB and ODB are discussing the requirements for rounding all the bases with ODB. Due to the people involved, this is funny in a really demented way, and it results in JB being mounted by ODB as he offers her a cigarette.

- Tenay and Foley are talking ringside when Booker, Nash, and Sharmelle come out to argue with him. Foley gets in their collective faces, so Steiner wipes him out with the lead pipe. If Foley's not in the match at Destination X as a result of this, then it was a HUGE waste of time.

- When Foley comes to, he refuses to be led away by an ambulance, saying he has someplace else to be. JB tries to reason with him and that goes about as well as you'd think. Foley busts back into the Impact Zone.

- Rough Cuts on Ultimate X, which is a preview edition for the match at the PPV. Nice video package.

8-Man Tag: LAX and Lethal Consequences over Main Event Mafia (Booker T and Scott Steiner) and Motor City Machine Guns when Hernandez pinned Chris Sabin with the Border Toss in about 4 minutes. Speedy and fun, so it's **3/4 on the PES. So the Frontline scores it's BIG win over the MEM by pinning a Frontline member? Yay for TNA Booking Logic.

- Backstage, Foley promises to be at ringside at the PPV and make a difference. This stupilation did not deserve such a big angle.

- Backstage, Brutus Magnus rejects Angle's offer because he has no interest in getting on the wrong side of Jarrett. Angle panics and recruits an MEM Security member, whose name is Rocco. Wow.

- Poor Eric Young doesn't even get his own entrance, having to come out to Sting's music. Way to put the spotlight on the younger talent, TNA!
Match 5: Eric Young over Rocco via DVD in about 3 minutes. This was YOUR TNA Impact main event and it sucked balls. 1/4* on the PES.

- Postmatch, Angle and a pair of MEM security put the boots to EY, so Foley makes the save. Steiner kicks HIS ass, so Jarrett makes the second save, wiping out some heels with chairshots. He wants to take out Nash and Steiner as well, but Sting's not cool with that. Jarrett announces that he'll be the special ref at Destination X and Foley with the ringside enforcer.

- End Show.

Wrestling Counter: 23 minutes.

--> Better than the past few weeks, though that is no standard to go by. At least the ADHD aspect of the show was reduced, and there was a clear flow forward with what was going on, which is a major improvement over the past couple of weeks. This didn't do much for me as a go-home show, but I feel the PPV will be quite good. Too bad TNA is not doing it any favors by failing to run a solid string of shows to set it up. I'm also not sold on this stacking-the-deck-against-Angle movement because he's neither a face, nor the champion. And since it needs reminding, there's a TNA PPV this sunday, so head on down to the PPV Prediction Thread (The W) and put your abilities to test!
--> PES: **.

Ah, weren't they dropping hints a few weeks ago about a female investor? I think they were. Who exactly in TNA has this giant Survivor obsession, anyway? Jenna's the third one to show up!

Well, at least it was during a so-what meaningless match. I don't mind Heel West, actually, except that the main side effect is that Tenay keeps throwing his little self-righteous hissy fits -- those annoy me tremendously.

Yeah, seriously. Didn't they do this already, anyway?

Eh, I'll take half credit 'cause I hedged my bet; I thought we might see a returning Moose.

As I said a few weeks ago, I think that's probably the best possible conclusion to this.

Rocco was in TNA in 2005 as "Big Tillie," half of the Phi Delta Slam tag team, a team that I kinda liked, actually, because they had matching outfits and because they were shaped differently than anyone else on the roster (this was just before 3D joined). I think the other security guy is Bruno, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the security team morph into a full-time tag team. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but maybe not worth tossing out Rock'n'Rave for.

Show was eh. I'm still baffled and depressed by how the "Frontline" push morphed into the the "aged authority figures" push. Even if Styles and Joe win their matches this Sunday, they've already made it clear (if the rumored card for Lockdown holds) that the Frontline guys aren't worthy of being in the Main Event -- which I thought was the whole point of the angle, but I guess I was confused.

I'm still boggled by an 8-man tag that's over in four minutes. Yay Crash TV.

Obviously the direction of the Frontline vs. MEM story is disappointing but I actually think Kurt and Sting can be a really good match. Even though it doesn't look like they are serious about pushing AJ or Joe let's at least hope they get to wrestle regularly again. If they wrestled on Impact each week then the shows wouldn't be too bad.

True, but in this particular instance, it likely stems from her working with Kurt Angle on a movie (imdb.com) - it's not like they went out and grabbed her just because of the Survivor brand name.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
