Just got back from the first ever TNA house show in the Detroit suburb of Plymouth, MI. It took place in the Compuware Arena (home of the OHL's Plymouth Whalers).

Opener was Sharkboy defeating Simon Diamond.

X-Division matchup between Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin (both hailing from the Detroit area). Very fast-paced match, really nice to see live these two can really go in the ring. From the televised Impact shows I've seen, they don't treat Shelley like a real contender but I thought he was even better than Sabin in the ring tonight!

Next up, I'm glad I went and grabbed some "refreshments" as soon as I heard the ICP music. Sigh. There was quite the ICP-contingent there (not suprisingly) but I didn't really care. Things got better when Team Canada came out and Scott gave a good verbal bashing. Impromptu match in which ICP picks up the win after Scott's interference wrecks it for the Canucks.

Then, it got extremely f'ing metal as Jerry Lynn made it to the ring! He had a good match against Bobby Roode from Team Canada, Roode won by holding the ropes for the pin. Cool to see Lynn live, plus I haven't caught him on Impact in forever (I don't catch every episode so I don't know for sure if he's been on...)

Next was Sabu vs Abyss in a hardcore matchup. Typical stuff from Sabu, chairs, blown spot, then he wins after leg-dropping Abyss through a table.

After the intermission was A1 vs Rhyno. Crowd going crazy for Rhyno of course. Good match that ends with Rhyno goring Scott and A1 and then picking up the win.

The match that everyone went nuts over was next with Joe vs AJ Styles. I think we all know how they can go in the ring, Borash announced that this match would televised in Impact but I don't think he said when. Joe won via a variation of his chokeout submission.

Next was a tag team match (the only actual one of the night) between AMW and The Naturals. Naturals retained in what was a very good match.

Main event was JJ vs Christian Cage. I watched most of the match but didn't catch the end. I assume Christian held onto the title. Sorry for not staying the whole way!

Overall, it was nice to see all the TNA stars live with the X-Division matches being the highlight along with the tag team championship. I'd say I'm even more excited about seeing ROH at the end of the month at the State Fairgrounds (it's a cross-promotional card w/ Dragon Gate!) but I'm very happy I went to TNA.

Damn you posted this fast, Dawg! I enjoyed the event as much as you did.

The AJ Styles - Samoa Joe match was the best match I think I've ever seen live. Styles can take one hell of a beating. I HIGHLY recommend watching the match whenever it airs.

I thought the end of the ICP-Canadians match was hilarious as ICP took Scott D'Amore's glasses and he blindly gave Petey Williams the Canadian Destroyer(!).

Captain Charisma did win the match, though you didn't miss much. After a ref bump and various interference from AMW, Cage hit the Unprettier on Jarrett for the pin.

Also, I think you meant to say AMW retained the titles.

Fabulous show. Hope they return soon.

Was going to go to this but fell asleep after work. Didn't feel that bad since I have good SNME seats tomorrow. I would have been really annoyed when ICP showed up so it's probably better I didn't go, I would have just bitched about that half the time.

How was the setup? Did it seem like they put effort into it or just half-ass it because it was a house show? IE, did they use the 6 sided-ring, was the lighting ok, etc?

Kane Robot, they did have the six-sided ring.

Here's an image of Scott D'Amore doing the Canadian Destroyer. I heard he did it at the house show:

Dawg, just wondering, were there TV cameras there at the venue? Did it look like they were taping the event?

This show sounds awesome so I hope it does get put on DVD or some of the matches like Shelley/Sabin (first time in TNA) or AJ/Joe can be seen.

I know it's cute and it's funny, but I hope to high hell they never show D'Amore doing the Destroyer on TV.

I'm not a fan of the move at all (in fact I hate it), but it would completely destroy whatever credibility the move had if some pudgy manager could do it. I mean, half the move is "look at what an incredible athlete Petey Williams is that he can do this!"

Keep it on the house shows for a laugh though.

I am a fan of the Destroyer...and I totally agree with you about this.

D'Amore's Destroyer just looked weird...which is a weird-looking move to begin with. It seemed like Petey was doing all the work, and it did take away from it. Admittedly the whole thing was pretty amusing.

At first I thought the cameras there would be just like the camera for a foreign WWE house show. They would just show highlights on Impact. Hopefully Sabin vs Shelley will be seen in all it's glory but it'd be from a hand cam at ringside. I know that when Joe vs AJ was on more lights came on above the ring and I assume they were using different cameras too.

Also, Reverend, will you be at ROH on the 30th? The card looks really good, and Austin Aries is slated to be there. I was disappointed that he wasn't at the TNA show.

I want to know how the crowd was. I mean, the biggest complaint most people have with the TNA product is the Orlando crowd. Was it a different vibe in Plymouth? Were the fans still trying to shoehorn themselves into the show?

The crowd was "OK", I'd say. The Compuware Arena is said to have 4,400 cpacity for wrestling events and it looked like there were about 3,500 people. There weren't a whole lot of chants, but the crowd was apesh!t for pretty much most of the Styles-Joe match. The main event was almost silent as Jarrett looked to be calling most of the match and that would include a chinlock and an extended sleeper hold. Styles-Joe should have been the main event.

Cage spent a couple of minutes afterwards saying how much he loved the Michigan crowd - but it may have just been company BS. I dunno.

Dawg - I won't be at the ROH show on the 30th. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with them. Have fun, though!
