It's been some time since we've had an actual TNA PPV with their reduced schedule. Interest in TNA seems to have declined on the message board here, but I'll still make a prediction thread and see what others might think.
PRESHOW GAUNTLET MATCH Bad Influence vs Park & EY vs The BroMans vs Chavo & Hernandez (BroMans won the advantage on the last episode of Impact, and they come out last.) - I'll pick Bad Influence to advance to the championship match on the PPV.
KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP ODB (c) vs. Gail Kim vs. Brooke Now that Brooke Hogan is gone, Tessmacher is known as Brooke once again. - ODB recently won the title from Mickie James, so I think she'll retain it here.
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS James Storm & Gunner (c) vs. Preshow Match Winners - James Storm & Gunner.
Ultimate X Match for the X Division Championship Manik (c) vs. Austin Aries vs. Chris Sabin vs. Jeff Hardy vs Samoa Joe - They've loaded this match up, so I'm having a tough time picking here. I'll go with Jeff Hardy.
Kurt Angle vs. Bobby Roode - Kurt Angle has just returned, and has been inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, so I'll pick him to win here.
Magnus vs. "The Icon" Sting - I've forgotten why they're fighting each other, but I'll pick Magnus.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP AJ Styles vs Bully Ray (c) - AJ Styles, since he "doesn't have a contract" and is who Dixie Carter has been feuding with.
EC3 coming to BFG The former Derrick Bateman is supposed to debut during BFG, and during Impact, he referenced "Aunt D", so I'm guessing he'll be Dixie's nephew?
Seems I forgot to put "Prediction Thread" in the thread title, oops!
All of my picks are based upon my theory that TNA is going to return things to where they were pre-Hogan.
PRESHOW GAUNTLET MATCH Bad Influence vs Park & EY vs The BroMans vs Chavo & Hernandez Bad Influence is the clear favorite here. They are hopefully smart enough to avoid making Park bleed. - Bad Influence
KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP ODB (c) vs. Gail Kim vs. Brooke ODB as part of TNA's return to 2009 - ODB
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS James Storm & Gunner (c) vs. Preshow Match Winners The return to 2009 means that they need heel tag champs. - Bad Influence
Ultimate X Match for the X Division Championship Manik (c) vs. Austin Aries vs. Chris Sabin vs. Jeff Hardy vs Samoa Joe The X champ was irrelevant in late 2009, and will continue to be irrelevant today. Second guess is Samoa Joe, since he had it for a bit in late 2009. - Manik
Kurt Angle vs. Bobby Roode Angle won at BFG 2009. - Kurt Angle
Magnus vs. "The Icon" Sting Sting passed the torch in 2009, and will try to do so again before taking a break from Impact Wrestling. - Magnus
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP AJ Styles vs Bully Ray (c) Last time AJ won a world title was in 2009. - AJ Styles
EC3 coming to BFG I certainly hope that he winds up rescuing the TV title from the abyss that it has fallen into.
Bound For Glory doesn't feel very glorious this year. 2010 had the promised arrival of "They" on 10-10-10. 2011 marked the end of the Immortal Regime. 2012 fell short of expectations, but going into it there was the hope that Bane would reveal himself. I am not sure what there is to look forward to this year.
The Bound for Glory Series is a fun idea, but it has been taking the wind out of the sails of the world champion's storylines in the past few years. In 2011, the more natural main event would have been Sting (c) versus Hogan for control of the company, rather than the randomly turned heel Angle (c) versus Bobby Roode. In 2012, Aries (c) versus Hardy felt less important due to its lack of connection to the Aces and Eights saga. This year we've had 16 months of buildup to a Ray (c) versus Hogan match that never had a chance to happen. I hope that next year if the series happens that it not be for the Bound for Glory title shot.
I think the show hasn't started yet? Maybe? - Bad Influence wins pre-show match - Gail wins the women's belt. - Bad Influence d. Storm & Gunner - Aries wins Ultimate X - Angle d. Roode - Magnus d. Sting - Styles d. Bully
BroMans(!!!) won the tag team gauntlet Chris Sabin d. Manik, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy and Austin Aries in an Ultimate X Match to win the X-Division title Bad Influence cut a promo, got destroyed by the returning Abyss, who they now seem to be acknowledging as Joe Parks' alter ego BroMans d. Gunner & James Storm(!!) to win the tag team titles(!!!) Kurt Angle turned down his HoF spot because he's still got so much to prove, apparently. Those 250 fans who attended the induction last night must be thrilled. Gail Kim d. ODB and Brooke to win the Knockouts title after Lei'D Tapa was revealed as Kim's Tamin-err, bodyguard. Bobby Roode d. Kurt Angle when Angle apparently knocked himself out with a second-rope Angle Slam. Good match, but not a worldbeater. Angle refused medical help afterwards to leave under his own steam. Bully Ray talked to three off-camera guys, giving the impression that all the old Aces were back. EC3 squashed some jobber. Yes, a jobber match. On their version of WrestleMania. Magnus made Sting tap to a Cloverleaf in a really, really bad match. AJ Styles d. Bully Ray to win the TNA title in the usual overbooked BS that saw Garrett, Knux and Dixie all try to help Bully. Of note: AJ damn near killed himself bumping here, including missing a 450 to the floor through a table, and there were no extra Aces, making Bully's earlier promo weird and stupid. The show ended with Dixie fuming as AJ celebrated with the fans.
Not a good show. Roode/Angle was very good, the ME was enjoyable, but everything else was either too short or really bad. And looking at the arena photos circulating on Twitter, they are in serious trouble in terms of attracting paying customers.
I watched on a stream but wasn't paying loads of close attention. The knockouts match was kind of slowly paced but fun, glad to see Gail get the title back. The "jobber" "Norv" is my buddy local SoCal staple "Pretty" Peter Avalon ( who fans of CWFHollywood & PWG will recognize ). Roode/Angle was good but not off the charts spectacular. The rest was decent to meh.
Briefly turned on RAW this week. Was greeted by the Jeff Jarrett video. It was a good package. Weird how they downplayed his WCW Heavyweight Title reigns and focused on his Intercontinental Title days instead.
