Okay, after last week's decent outing, I decided what the hell, I'll give it another try this week.

Big mistake. This show just had the stink of Russo all over it, from telegraphing the end of the main event at the start of the show by having Gilbertti be the one to beat down Jarrett, to the lunatic ending to the tag handicap match, to the endless beatdown Kid Kash laid on Trinity, and finally to the chaotic, confusing, and yet somehow deadly dull gauntlet match (filled with guys like Buff Bagwell and Rick Steiner, who were clearly there for one night only). And if ECW wasn't already dead, that "hardcore" match would have killed it. And what kind of promotion has DISCO FRIGGIN' INFERNO as the #1 contender to its championship? And and and and ...

So much for my brief flirtation with TNA as a potential WWE alternative. Bring on the tapes.

"next to of course god america i
love you land of the pilgrims' and so forth oh
say can you see by the dawn's early my
country tis of centuries come and go
and are no more what of it we should worry
in every language even deafanddumb
thy sons acclaim your glorious name by gorry
by jingo by gee by gosh by gum
why talk of beauty what could be more beaut-
iful than these heroic happy dead
who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter
they did not stop to think they died instead
then shall the voice of liberty be mute?"

He spoke. And drank rapidly a glass of water

I was contemplating ordering TNA next week.

Thanks for the warning. I think I'm about to drop a wad of cash on some classic tapes, myself.

I had no problem with the battle royal. My only gripe is the very glaring omission of The Truth's elimination. He goes outside, and then they don't make another mention of him until several minutes later when they say, "The Truth was eliminated? Yes, The Truth was eliminated."

It reminded me of a falls-count-anywhere match that Sting and Rick Steiner had on some WCW pay-per-view, where they fought into a room with no cameras following them, and a minute later, Steiner comes out and the ref says he's the winner after Sting supposedly got mauled by a pack of dogs or something.

Well, on the bright side, maybe this means Rick Steiner won't make it to WWE TV. At least for now. With Johnny Ace ready to take the reins, the Steiner Brothers could be months away from reuniting.

As for the show, I don't know how many times I've said that I can't take Glen Gilberti seriously. I mean...at the end of the day, to me, he's STILL the DISCO INFERNO! He spends just about his entire CAREER (which is a pretty long time, when you think about it) as a comedy wrestler and now I'm supposed to buy him as a SERIOUS CONTENDER to the world title? I'm sure there's a good analogy out there, but damned if I know one right now.

Ok, so maybe all the other guys haven't worked, but will THIS be the man to save WWE???

Um...probably not.

I just read the review from the Observer and that seriously looked like one of the most brutal TNA show ever. I know Jerry Jarrett was taken off the creative team last week and I think that was obvious with this show. Seemed really Russo-riffic to me. Which is not a good thing.

I can't take Gilberti either. I know Steiner and Bagwell were a one shot deal, but please, never again. Just like WWE, they've got so much younger, promising talent, and at one time they were doing something good with them. But this week looked really bad (from what I read) and didn't seem to make much sense.

One more thing that had me shaking my head (courtesy of the Observer's TNA report):

Then came boo-boo No. 1. Sabu did a headscissors like move to eliminate Saturn. He was supposed to hook the ropes but didn't and he crashed on the floor. Everybody paused here. Mike Tenay then said, and put this one down in Battle Royal history, that since Sabu initiated the move, he was not eliminated. Now keep in mind, half the people that went over the top were eliminated by people who weren't even in the match. Everyone else was dumped leaving Styles, Sabu and Gilbertti. Sabu used the spike so Gilbertti bled like crazy, which was his tradeoff for winning. Sabu did a triple jump splash outside the ring, going over the top. Wasn't an elimination again. At least this time we had a precedent set. Gilbertti threw out Styles

*bangs head on desk*

D'oh. All I can say is, one week, just one bad show can turn many fans away. Hopefully somewhere, they'll get back on track.

Well -- Truth was eliminated by the Harris Twinz, thrown over the top rope, right after they tossed out Rick Steiner. The cameras were RIGHT THERE and we all witnessed it. I don't know how Tenay managed to somehow forget all about it, but he did, so I guess we can't get too mad at you for forgetting it, too. BUT -- Truth's elimination was by no means omitted.

Anyway. The show looked better on paper than it ended up coming off. I dunno what was off tonight, but I wasn't all that thrilled by the show

I don't mind Disco getting a title shot as long as it's not a Raven-length feud. Give him his shot next week, he blows it, he gets mad at SEX, everyone moves on to other things.

At least Jeff Jarrett wasn't Superman this week.

Also, did Raven come out with anybody (Julio Dinero) or by himself? Last week even though he lost, he had help from about 100 wrestlers.

Huh, I missed that. I guess that's what I get for getting up and getting a soda while watching Scramblevision.

Well, from what I saw on the tape, it was hit and miss. By the way, how could DISQO get the shot when it's obvious that Raven deserves a rematch??

I ordered my first ever TNA last night, and while it wasn't great it was still far more enjoyable than anything I had seen on WWE in months.

I'll order again next week (yes I am that desperate for anything non-WWE wrestling related and yes I could order tapes, but there is just something about watching something happen live as it ahppens...)

Okay you got me there, but for the record I was in the nosebleeds at WM and really couldn't see much except for an obstructed view of one of the big screens...

...so really I didn't see WM...

heh...

Last night was my first TNA experience as well. It was all right, but I found myself wandering around my apartment at times doing other things. I guess I'm used to taping WWE shows and fast forwarding a lot. Damn lack of attention span. But yeeah, it was ok, but I wasn't blown away or anything. I just mainly ordered it to put faces to names. I've heard a lot about some of the TNA guys, and wanted to finally see them in action. The screwups were plentiful, but I kinda got a kick out of them for some reason. Also, it was kinda neat seeing all those WWE guys I haven't seen in a while.

I might order again if I've got nothing else to do on a Wednesday night, but I wouldn't arrange my plans around it or anything.

As an FYI, the new girl in TNA, Tracy, trained here in Toronto(she's from Barrie) under Ron Hutchison. Tracy was the sparring partner for both Trish Stratus and the yet unseen Gail Kim.
