For someone who can not follow Raw or Smackdown or whatever else there might be, I have no clue on this, so I hope a friendly soul can help me out:

Since they obviously have two completely different rosters now in Raw and Smackdown, does this mean that the titles can just be defended against members of each show? For example, can only Smackdown wrestlers get a shot at Brock Lesnars Undisputed Title? And is this the reason why they created a new title, so that they have two big titles, one for each show?

If this is just a joke then you're a friggin' loser, but if you're new to the WWE then I can understand and I'll clarify -- Each show has it's own split roster, GM, and titles.

Raw: World Heavyweight
Tag Team
Women's

Smackdown: WWE Champion
Tag Team (new titles)
Cruiserweight

Hope that helps you with the confusion -- oh and if you're new to this whole WWE thing....get out while you still can!!! LoL

You can put me in the friggin' loser corner, although I was *NOT* joking, but obviously I missed everything here, when there is no Hardcore or European Championship anymore (are these now titles for Heat or Velocity or whatever other shows, or does this question make me an asshole again?), and I don't even dare to ask what a GM is............but anyway, thanks for being the one that went down so low to answer my question!

P.S. this title stuff sounds totally fucked!

In one of the dumber moves we've seen from the WWFE(and that's saying a LOT), the Hardcore and European titles were merged into the Intercontinental title, killing any feuds they were in dead. And apparently the Intercontinental Title is going to be merged into the "World" (RAW) title, which leaves us with the current set-up of the six titles listed. The "GM"s are basically just doing Vince's old job, with Bischoff ruining ... er, I mean running RAW, and Stephanie McMahon running Smackdown. Yes, it's fucked up, but since when does Vince care about logic or coherence?
Sweet pic of the Asian chick, btw. :)

Well, yes, it IS totally fucked. GMs, however, are really quite easy. They're the new name for the Commissioner role that Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels used to do so well, except there's one General Manager (GM) for Raw, and another for SmackDown!. For Raw, we've got ex-WCW head honcho Eric Bischoff, who has given us such things as Hot Lesbian Action and the Raw Roulette, which will make its debut Monday night. SmackDown! has been given Stephanie McMahon, and has quickly become the better show. It has, over the past few weeks, given us Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero in a no-DQ match, Angle vs. Benoit vs. Mysterio, Benoit vs. Mysterio and Edge vs. Angle, all potential MOTY candidates. Now, to the titles. The Hardcore and European straps have been unified into the Intercontinental Championship, currently held by Kane. Kane will get a shot at Triple H at No Mercy. Triple H was given the old WCW title belt by Bischoff, and it is now called the World Heavyweight Championship. Brock Lesnar's Undisputed Title, while still the exact same belt, is now being referred to as the WWE Championship. Stephanie has also created SmackDown! Tag Team titles, for which a tournament is now being held. These are called the WWE Tag Team Titles just like the ones on Raw, so this could get interesting. So, pretty much, the only thing that Raw and SmackDown! share any more is PPVs. Raw wrestlers, in general, do not wrestle against SD guys, and titles do not change shows. Also, there is no more blind jumping between shows, as the GMs must now agree on a trade. Heat is a show for Raw talent who aren't on the big show, and Velocity is the same for SmackDown!. Also, Jakked and Metal are gone, replaced by AfterBurn and The Bottom Line. If I remember correctly, AfterBurn is for SmackDown! and Bottom Line is for Raw. There you have it. Two shows, two rosters, one company with a stupid name. WWE......in a nutshell.

My Chris Benoit Raw Deal deck is 0-0-0.
The Patriots are 3-1.
Chris Jericho does not have a belt or an upcoming shot at a belt.

Things could be better.

Well, what you tell me here is totally irritating me. I have never heard about the HC and European Title combined with the IC title, so this is coming really surprising. I never liked the European title anyway, and the HC title lost its meaning years ago, but 3 in 1, and the one getting absorbed now as well, that sounds like a typical move Vince pulled out of a hat when he woke up in the morning and stepped on the floor with his right foot instead of the left one.
Not to speak of the two tag titles.......wasn't there a lack of competition in tag team wrestling recently, which didn't even make enough teams to feud for *one* pair of titles??? Okay I see, this has been mentioned before in another thread, so let's forget that.........

Once upon a time, in the magical land known as the WWF, there were wrestlers wrestling for championships:
WWF Championship
Intercontinental Championship
European Championship
Hardcore Championship
Women's Championship
Tag Team Championship
Light-Heavyweight Championship

Then, WCW folded and was bought out by the WWF. So, they brought their wrestlers and titles over to the WWF:
WCW Championship
United States Championship
Tag Team Championship
Cruiserweight Championship

The WCW Championship was renamed the World Championship
The United States Championship was unified with the Intercontinental Championship. The two Tag Team Championships were unified. The Cruiserweight & Light-Heavyweight Championships were unified, then un-unified. Then X-Pac (the Light-Heavyweight Champ) got hurt and they dissolved the title without mentioning it, leaving the following titles:
WWF Championship
World Championship
Intercontinental Championship (also U.S.)
Tag Team Championship (Unified)
European Championship
Hardcore Championship
Women's Championship
Cruiserweight Championship

Then, at Vengeance [Dec. 2001], Chris Jericho beat The Rock for the World Championship & then Steve Austin for the WWF Championship, unifying both major championships into the Undisputed Championship. Then, after WrestleMania, the Split [March 2002] occured. The titles were split as follows after the draft:
Undisputed Championship [both shows]
Intercontinental Championship [RAW-via Rob Van Dam pick]
Tag Team Championship [SD-via Chuck & Billy pick]
European Championship [RAW-via William Regal pick]
Hardcore Championship [SD-via Maven pick]
Women's Championship [both shows]
Cruiserweight Championship [SD-via Tajiri signing...I think]

Maven then lost the Hardcore Title to Raven on the SmackDown after the draft (before the split was to go into effect), making Hardcore Title a RAW belt.
Later on (just before Eric Bischoff & Stephanie McMahon became the GMs of RAW & SmackDown respectively), The European Title was unified with the Intercontinental Championship. Chris Benoit beat RVD for the Intercontinental Belt, then jumped to SmackDown. Then at SummerSlam, he lost the title back to RVD & RAW. Then, after the GMs took over, the Hardcore Championship was unified with the Intercontinental Championship. Brock Lesnar (a SmackDown guy) won the Undisputed Title and declined to defend on RAW. So RAW GM Bischoff recinded the recognition of Lesnar as Champion (retracting the World Championship half of the title), making Lesnar WWE Champion & HHH World Champion. And just this week on SmackDown, Stephanie McMahon announced there's gonna be a SmackDown Tag Title awarded at No Mercy. And the Intercontinental Championship will be unified with the World Championship at No Mercy. Right now...

WWE Championship [SmackDown] (former WWF, Undisputed)
World Championship [RAW] (former WCW)
Intercontinental Championship [RAW] (also US, Hardcore, European)
Tag Team Championship [RAW] (also WCW Tag)
Cruiserweight Championship [SmackDown] (former WCW Cruiserweight)
Women's Championship [both?] (assumedly)

The IC Championship will be absorbed by the World Belt & there will be NEW Tag Team Champions (recognized by SmackDown) at No Mercy. Otherwise, that's it.

First off, you're welcome. Second of all, I hate nitpicking, but...Freeway420 got his chronology mixed up. Bischoff and Stephanie became GM before RVD beat Jeff Hardy to unify the Euro and IC belts. That's about it.

I too, have to scratch my head at all this. Kurt Angle. THE Kurt Angle. That guy needs an agent? Well, I don't know what's up with that, but I'll just go with it, since he did play the crowd for saps last night, so I'll give it a shot. Ringmistress
