| #1 Posted on 31.8.02 1740.09 | I think its past the point where Jim Ross can leave this business with a shred of dignity. I know that calling the match occurring in the ring is beneath him, but I've learned to accept that with him. But, when he says Mark Henry has the potential to be a main eventer, thats the last straw. Its time for 3 minutes of good ol J.R. getting run over by a team of hoss's for our entertainment and to put him out of our misery.
Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine.| Promote this thread! | | It's False

| #2 Posted on 31.8.02 1759.47 | I think there's been a common misconception about Jim Ross's position with WWE.
Is JR the main guy when it comes to recruiting and evaluating talent? Yes.
Is JR the guy who determines which guys get pushed? NO!
Yes, JR will give his Ross Report Blowjob™ to any and all superstars he wants. Maybe he knows something about Mark Henry that we don't. And while I'm on that, where ARE all these people who attended OVW shows that were SWEARING that Mark Henry improved 1000%? Don't see many of those guys anymore. But I digress.
JR can go on all he wants about how guys like Raven, Justin Credible, Shelton Benjamin, Mark Henry, etc. etc. etc. can all be credible main eventers and the smark world will condemn him for lying through his teeth. But the bottom line is that they shouldn't, because Jim Ross does not determine who gets pushed. The final decision of who gets pushed lies with the bookers and Vince McMahon!
Get on JR all you want about his anemic job as a commentator. But don't get on him because certain guys aren't getting pushed. He doesn't get to make that choice.
Because Lord knows that if he did, our Smackdown main event would feature Albert, because Albert's a HOSS, BY GAWD!!!
All jokes aside, JR still serves a purpose in the wrestling world. There's nobody who comes close to replacing the hardest working guy behind the scenes of WWE (though Johnny Ace is being groomed to ultimately become his successor). So get off the guy's back already!
"That's right! You suckas better FIND somewhere to run! 'cause it's me - Booker T - not only am I the Scorpion King, but I'm the five-time WCW Champion - and I got a sword, too! Now can U dig THAT - SUCKAAAAAS" -Booker T, Hollywood's next big superstar!
"Sing along with The Rock is now over!" -The Rock after getting booed out of Long Island
Hugh Morrus is now using his real name. NO, he is NOT calling himself Hugh G. Rection!!
And that's the bottom line, because it's false! It's DAMN false! | Bongo P. Michinoku

The strangest part about the Henry reference in last friday's Ross Report was the bit about "Mark Henry is filled with charisma", or words to that effect. WHAT charisma? His promos are absolutely robotic. | DJ FrostyFreeze

| #5 Posted on 31.8.02 2104.00 | I think JR's even hinted at that Frosty. However, he's also said he's not leaving anytime soon. As for JR, I don't think he has a lot to do with the creative part of the company, so I don't really blame him for this stuff. He's the head talent guy, so OF COURSE he's gonna put the talent over.
I was expecting this to be about his commentary, I had one big pint of Haterade waiting, but I'll put it back in the fridge.

| #6 Posted on 1.9.02 0546.13 | Mark Henry is filled with charisma. But also with twinkies, hamburgers and milkshakes.
Seriously, Henry does seem to have charisma, it might be the huggable big teddy bear or whatever but he just looks like a cool guy. Unfortunately charisma and working a mic are something completely different (see Van Dam, Rob) and thus his potential is untapped.
With his wrestling skills I think the problem is that he didnt have a background. So he learned the basics at an age where most guys he faces have been in the ring for 5-10 years. And since he is that big he can do very little else than do big man stuff while trying not to really hurt them. And yeah I believe he is all that powerful, but that results in them using that in the ring 'he just lifted ..... over his head!' and thus even his big man moves are limited because they dont want him to bust out powerbombs or chokeslams or even bonzai drops. Nope, he is Mr. Power who lifts you over his head and maybe splashes on you.

I saw him in a dark match before a Raw here in C-Bus while he was in OVW. He was better than he is now. The reason is simple too, when I saw him he was probably 315 pounds. Dude was ripped. He was still fat, but not massive like he is now. He moved a lot quicker than he does now too. The problem is he put all the weight back on to do that Strongest Man thing. So, basically, they had Mark Henry do the Strongest Man thing to get him over, but instead they ruined any chance they had of getting him over.
Don't get me wrong, he wasn't awesome or anything, but he was certainly passable for a WWE Superstar of his size.

| #8 Posted on 1.9.02 2026.16 | OK, Jim Ross is mentioned in the title of this thread, and more than one post has talked about Mark Henry's weight. That's means I can write the following and feel justified that I stayed on topic.
Scattered throughout CRZ's recaps every week are sarcastic comments regarding the excessive number of Stacker 2 commercials run during WWE programming. Contained within each weekly Ross Report on the WWE website is at least one remark about a wrestler or group of wrestlers who need to shed a few pounds.

But when he wants to, he emotes better than anyone and gives a main event feel to matches. Rock vs Brock suffered because JR wasn't gurgling in the background, "The Rawk has has been absolutely, by GAWD, destroyed and the WWE will never be the same!!!!"

Yeah, JR's grown useless. He used to be a great play by play guy, but each and every RAW he seems to slip further and further into Schiavone territory. Which it to say: sucking.
King's pretty wretched too. I never thought I'd find myself preferring Michael Cole to...well, ANYBODY.

As far as Mark Henry goes, he does seem to have some charisma. I heard him last week in a long local radio interview and he was good. | barkingpanther

| #14 Posted on 5.9.02 1248.49 | My opinion:
JR lost his edge. A couple years ago. Maybe even longer. he got stuck in a rut of shilling and using his tired old catch-phrases, and has been doing the same shit so long he can't break out of it.
When Schiavone was still around you didn't notice JR so much, as he sucked mightier than JR ever did or could.

| #15 Posted on 5.9.02 2058.25 | When the main annoucer can't remember the name of the guy's finisher who they're PUSHING, you have a problem. Especially when that guy is talent relations and the "right-hand man" of the owner. If Micheal cole or Loyd screws up, you expect that.
Second it doesn't help to go through with a name change when the vice-president is still wearing the old logo. Oops.
I really don't have a problem with Lawler.
Tazz has done an OK job but he really should be in the ring and needs to explain a bit more. When he said Angle's 1/2 crab on Rey was a legbar he wasn't wrong, but if you don't explain why (pressure on the ankle, not just the knee),people think he's waay off or not paying attention. | Zeruel

| #17 Posted on 5.9.02 2307.59 | Jim Ross is suffering from what Tony Schiavone (Del Monte, Jiganti, Pugatti, Zimbabwe, Shivontay)suffered from.
Not believing in the product they're trying to call. If anyone can recall some of the amazing calls he made during the best era of WCW (92-early 94), HE could absolutely mark out ANYBODY.
Like Cactus and Maxx Payne vs. the Nasties at Superbrawl IV(Cactus was sent to the ropes and ducks a double clothesline) "DDT!!!!!!!!!! Incredible! He IS nuts!" Heenan: "Or he's Superman!" Tony: "No, HE'S NUTS!"
It's that kind of fire and spontaneity that's sorely missed from JR. King of the Ring 98 HITC anyone? JR rocked that fuckin mic.
If the WWE's product continues to improve, and gives US mark out moments with reason, JR just might get out of this uninspired funk that he's been in.
