I am a big, big fan of the use of gradients in ties. This one actually goes from dark dark brown at the top to light light beige at the bottom, making it a very rare entire tie gradient, as opposed to a repeating pattern type gradient. The best part is a hidden feature: turn it around and you see that the lining is an inexplicable SOLID RED.

Label: WEMLON by Wembley CRUSH IT, KNOT IT...EVEN WASH IT...FOR BROWN, GREEN OR BLACK SUIT - 100% POLYESTER

Of course, I'm wearing it with a yellow shirt - I hope that's okay with them. Do you think they really threw down the dough to register the word "WEMLON" as a trademark?

Dr. Weird: GENTLEMEN....BEHOLD! I BRING YOU....WEMLON!!!!!!!

Steve: Uhhh....that's really great

Dr. Weird: YESSSS - IT *IS* REALLY GREAT!!!!!

You might be closer to the mark than you think - The Internet (or at least just this site) provides the following info on the power of Wemlon: "... in 1962, a totally "indestructible" polyester tie termed Wemlon was launched that was discontinued in '79. The washable Wemlon tie reached its peak in '72..."

Totally indestructible? Sweet. I bet that's why it was discontinued, for national security reasons and all. It's not as cool as the Hypnotie from the other day, but I bet that one isn't totally indestructible. I wonder if the good people at Wembley made suits (bulletproof ones, no doubt) that had tags letting you know which ties from the Wemlon line were allowed to be worn with each suit.

Well, I'll be. Apparently they're the largest men's neckwear maker IN THE WORLD:

Even more: Miracle fabric led brothers to wealth in tie industry (clarionherald.org)

You would *think* that the problem with manufacturing totally indestructable ties is that people really only need to buy one of them, then you're screwed. ;-)

That, of course, is why they need to be really ugly. If you were to wear the same one of those babies every single day, it wouldn't be too terribly long til your friends, coworkers & spouse got you anything else! Even if the new ties are equally ugly, at least they're different. See, it's sort of a pyramid scheme.

I think it's great that the label tells you what to wear with the tie. They should do that more often.

You own anything in a clip-on?

How about a 1980's thin leather tie preferably red. When do you think we'll see those make a comeback anyway.
