Well, the man lost ME around the time the great shift to
wrestleline happened - No really, his fancy html was too
fancy for my humble browser. ;-)
Added to this was the fact that pro-wrestling torch started
around the time of the shift, and one didn't have any reason
to miss reading him.
I wrote to him for the 1st time when he was soliciting feedback
on what to do next - thanks to the link CRZ provided.
Needless to say the poll results from Him and his followers
was totally different from what I wished from him. ;-)
Now I, every once in a while, go and have a look and wonder
why does he bother? Scott Keith has cornered the market
for "smart opinions" and occasional insights, CRZ has his detailed feedbacks for us,
torch and Melzer are the true pros, and Rick, well what
does he have?
He's got the "I'm just a fan with a PC" vibe as opposed to the Keith "I'm better than you" vibe.
"Nobody enjoys a good time more than I do, but this business of yours is as legitimate as a three-legged donkey...which of course is illegitimate because as we all know donkeys have four legs."

Lance Storm, 21st January 2002.
I don't know...I think Dave M. might have the "I'm better than you" vibe down about better than everyone. Even when there is praise for the WWF, there is always some backhanded insult to go along with it.
January 4th 1999 - The day WCW injected itself with 10 gallons of Liquid Anthrax...AKA...The day Hogan "Defeated" Nash to win the WCW title in front of 40,000.
If Rick retires it would be the end of an era. The original kick ass wrestling websites was his News From Dayton and Mike Samuda's MiCasa. It would be a damn shame for the both of them to be off my PC
Wow, somebody said Micasa! Now that takes me back to the golden days of my youth....
And regarding Rick: as was pointed out to me the other day, don't like it, don't read it.
"Nobody enjoys a good time more than I do, but this business of yours is as legitimate as a three-legged donkey...which of course is illegitimate because as we all know donkeys have four legs."
Where is Samuda, anyway? Still off doing that unprofitable lawyer thing? He should come back to the world of internet wrestling. Think of the riches to be had!
ironcladlou, AKA Cygnet
"I am made from the dust of the stars, and the oceans flow in my veins"
Yeah, last time anyone mentioned him, it turned out he was working all hours to further his career. Selfish bastard. I can't call all those premium rate numbers on a teachers salary!!

But hasn't his time gone already? I mean once upon a time he was the undisputed king of 'net columnists. Now he comes across as an also-ran re-cycling the same old, same old.
Not bashing him here, what i really mean to say is that it is sad to see the mighty fallen. If he never had been big, it would have been okay for him to continue to pretend that nothing has changed. It is pretty sad to see him try to be The Grand Master of Consensus like he once was.
You mean Scaia, who__lame (This thread is going a bit off on a tangent)?
It depends what you mean about time being gone, and I think this relates into the whole inflated self importance of the hallowed "internet wrestling community". I don't think anyone should tell anyone else that they should stop posting their comments, or whatever, since the theory is we're all equal on the net. We're all just a bunch of poeple who like wrestling, and for the most part don't know each other in real life, and will probably never meet. I guess I don't see it as the mighty falling, because I don't see anybody who has a website or posts a lot or whatever as being better than anyone else or "mighty" in the first place. A guy with an opinion is just that, anyone with an outlet that people read might be a total jackass (or a loser, or the president) in real life. What does it matter? Each opinion is valid, because it is an opinion, but a good opinion or widely read column doesn't make someone better, and certainly doesn't justify the huge egos and self aggrandising attitude some of these "wrestling gurus" have.
But anyway, as I said earlier, I like Rick's stuff because he doesn't seem to have the inflated ego that some others do, he says his piece then generally leaves it at that, which is fine by me. Some people say he lost his edge at wrestleline, he just lost the ability to say "fuck" at wrestleline, and surely it takes more ability to think up some better adjectives anyway.
Plus recycling is a good thing in my opinion, it saves me dealing with Ryder.
"Nobody enjoys a good time more than I do, but this business of yours is as legitimate as a three-legged donkey...which of course is illegitimate because as we all know donkeys have four legs."
I liked a lot of Ricks Wrestleline stuff because he could be positive and not sound like an illerate fanboy. Was usually worth the read. I don't read him any more, simply because the OO site is far too slow to load and absolutely kills my browser.
CRZ, if u are reading this, I know ZERO HTML, yet I HAVE to quote here. Don't flame me if I screw up the tables. ;-)

Yes, it is about the fact that he himself derive considerable satisfaction from being the best columinist out there. Or The Grand Voice Of Intelligent Consensus. And THAT is not a bad thing.
. I don't think anyone should tell anyone else that they should stop posting their comments, or whatever, since the theory is we're all equal on the net.
Yes, exactly. But in that case, why does he insist on spending money and having a site of his own? Why didn't he seriously consider the option of teaming up with CRZ and try and recapture the flavour of the Rick-Micasa tag-team. Make no mistake, there is EGO at work here. IMHO, Misplaced ego.

And because there are too many net.idiots who are attracted like us geeks to wrestling, we will also be damned if we use our real name. ;-)
A guy with an opinion is just that, anyone with an outlet that people read might be a total jackass (or a loser, or the president) in real life. What does it matter?
It doesn't. But why does he need a "super-site" as his outlet? Why is he trying to recapture what is forever lost?
Each opinion is valid, because it is an opinion, but a good opinion or widely read column doesn't make someone better, and certainly doesn't justify the huge egos and self aggrandising attitude some of these "wrestling gurus" have.
Did you see/hear about the pathetic publicity stunt the so-called smarks tried to pull-off? Boy, am I glad that I have taste enough not to visit the smarks!
But anyway, as I said earlier, I like Rick's stuff because he doesn't seem to have the inflated ego that some others do, he says his piece then generally leaves it at that, which is fine by me.
Fully Agreed. Good, thoughtful post from your side.

Wow, I sure don't agree with you. I mean, I think there's an implied compliment to me in there, and I'll certainly take it ;-) but I think you're way off base.
I'm not sure what you mean by "teaming up with CRZ." I mean, he's already mirroring my RAW reports and probably doubling my hitrate for them - you want more than that? But that's enough for ME!
I can't step in and fill Mike's shoes because what I bring to the table is vastly different from what Mike brings to the table. I don't think that in reality, any Rick-CRZ "team" that you're imagining (above and beyond what you're getting now) isn't going to make you miss WrestleManiacs any less.
Rick doesn't have any more or less ego than any of these other "Internet Wrestling Personality" types, I assure you. What's wrong with him wanting his own star on his own door? Hell, why do you think *I* started CRZ.net/wrestling? This isn't rocket science, people - I'M A BIG FAT MARK FOR MY OWN NAME. Don't begrudge Rick because he's taken his hobby big-time. He happens to entertain a hell of a lot of people with what he does - but none of that is nearly as important as the fact that he happens to entertain himself...or at least I HOPE he does!
I come here every day and read a good variety of posts. I want to contribute more, but can't ever think of anything to say that someone else hasn't already said before.
