MGM has signed Sylvester Stallone to write, produce, and star in a new, 6th Rocky film.

MGM is giving the project a rather small $10-$15 million budget. The film will star Sylvester Stallone as a 50-year old Rocky Balboa. Balboa now spends his time teaching young kids at a youth center, but is lured back to the ring for one final fight.

The original Rocky won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1976, and Stallone got Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Screenplay (he wrote the original). The film was followed by 4 sequels. The original Rocky was made on a tiny $1 million budget.

*SHOOTS SELF*

Rocky I was good. Rocky II was good. Rocky III was pushing it. Rocky IV was really pushing it. Rocky V was painfully bad. BUT ROCKY VI?????

ARE YOU THAT HARD-UP FOR CASH, Sly? Are you? I'll lend you twenty bucks, but just don't act again.

Ok, but you know, these films made money. Rocky 4 was actually quite entertaining. Did you also read where he's readying a script for a 4th Rambo film?

What I think is much worse is either Paramount of Fox are throwing Mel Gibson and George a budget of$100million to make Mad Max 4, when the combined theatrical take on the first three was less then $70million. I mean... WTF?!?!?!

Please don't bash the two best Rocky films in the same breath. The pace of the first two was too slow, but I understand how people hold them in such high esteem. For me, they weren't as good because not only was the story the same, but the he faught the same guy in the end. At least Mr. T and Dolph were different. There is no way that III and IV were pushing it. Some of the most memorable lines in Rocky history were made in those movies.

i'm not surprised, since the multi-platform game just came out, which did surprise me. now i know why the game is out, to get rocky back into the conscience of the youth/young adults of america...

DDP: Well, there's this little passage I got memorized, Diamond Dallas 25:17. Sort of fits this occasion:

"The path of the bookerman is beset on all sides by the inequities of the talented, and the tyranny of workrate freaks. Blessed is he, who in the name of tradition and sports entertainment carries the stiffs through the matches of Nitro, for he is truly the workrate's keeper, and the finder of lost quality. And I will lay the smack down upon thee with great vengeance and furious roid rage those who attempt to outwrestle and expose my brothers. And you will know my name as the Bookerman, when I lay my catchphrase upon thee!"

DDP & Kevin: *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*

Man, I was like 9 when Rocky III came out and about 12 for Rocky IV. Those movies were my favorite for a while. Having seen IV recently, I discovered that children are easily amused. There is only so much Survivor a person can listen to.

BTW, will kids of today understand the whole America vs. USSR aspect of the movie?

Sure. If you had watched Rocky fight the Nazis when you were a kid, you would have gotten it.

I - classic. Great movie. I will never understand how Sly Stallone managed to get into the insane shape he's in now, when he looked like he did in Rocky I when he was, like, thirty. That gives me hope for myself.

II - Ridiculous. It's the same movie people! With the ending it's not supposed to have!

III - Excellent. Mr. T = Best Heel Ever. Plus you've got "eye of the Tiger." Plus Micky turns out to be Jewish. I always love it when old crotchety guys turn out to be Jewish (Like the Thing in the Fantasic Four comics), as I have high hopes of one day being an old crotchety guy myself.

IV - Utterly awful. Maybe now we can look back on it with nostalgia, in a "so bad it's good," way, but at the time it was way too over the top. Micky dying is a good, dramatic, plot-sriving momement. Appollo Creed dying is just a cheap and lazy way of getting heel heat. That whole movie just screams "CHEAP HEAT!!!!!"
On the plus side, Bridget Neilson is super-hot.

V - With the exception of the Don King ripoff, I thought this was actually a great story. If the franchise had just been I and V (and maybe III), it would be gold. People pan this movie because they were tired of the whole Rocky francise at this point. It was a joke from the moment it was announced (kind of like VI is now) and never had a chance.

As long as Sage Stallone is in this one, I'll be there.
I'm hoping they'll be filming on location in Philadelphia again. My favorite part of Rocky V was the press conference and local sports anchor "Big Al" Meltzer yells out, "A ROCKY BALBOA YOU'LL NEVER BE", like he's a Jewish sports Yoda or something. Priceless...

From the infamous Wrestleline SS interview:

DTD: If you were to make changes in WCW, if you were in charge and not Ric Flair, what would they be?

SS: I'd get rid of all the old guys, and push the talent that has waited to get the push. The things they are doing, it's back in the 1980s. It's just bad, man. Flair doesn't even deserve to be on the show. You've got to get rid of all the old guys. Like what Vince did, they started pushing guys. Nobody knew who The Rock was 2 years ago. He made The Rock. Now The Rock just did Saturday Night Live. You've got to start with the young talent, talent people can relate to. Who are we trying to relate to if we've got a 50 year old man out there? Are we trying to relate, so a 50 year people and above will go out and buy a f*cking little toy? That ain't gonna happen. It's a f*cking joke.

Does it remind you of any show in particular?

I agree with Cerebus. We need this:

Risin' up, back on the street
Took my time, took my chances
Went the distance
Now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happened too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

* It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge
Of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And his fortune must always be
Eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds
Still we take to the street
Fot the kill with the skill to survive
(Repeat *)

Best two? I'm sorry, bro, but I can't agree. I liked 3 (Mr. T owned that movie) but 4? My god, what crap! Why oh why did Rocky have to get dragged into the Cold War propaganda machine?

The fun thing about all the Rocky movies is that they convince you that you can take like 75 consecutive punches to the head and still be, uh, not dead! Also, how uninteresting is real boxing after watching boxing movies like Rocky? I mean, what's the point?
