You know it amazes that in the NFL there are TIES. Even college football will go however long it takes until there is a winner. Anyway what a great game. Michael Vick is just amazing and Tommy Maddux looked great too. Joey Porter also reminded me why I wear his jersey every Sunday.

What a great weekend for football period. I can't remember a weekned with so many great games in one weekend. From high school playoff football here starting Friday through today its just been incredible football. I love this game.

I have no problem with ties in football. It adds more strategy than just infinite sudden death or Kansas style OT. Hell, I wouldn't mind it if OTs were shorter, even.

i remember sitting through a Raders 4 OT game. i think i might have been against the jets....

that was recockulous...i don't like the sudden death aspect of OT, but I welcome Ties

for the record, a Tie is half a win for winning pct, so a team that is 5-4-1 would have a winning pct of .556 ( 5.5/10 rounded to the nearest thousandth ) where as a team that is 5-5-0 is .500

so the non loss might have playoff implications in the end...remember all teams in the same conference all play 14 common teams, the other 2 are parity teams...and those common games can be used as a tie breaker

I have a problem with ties in any sport, period, on general principle. Neither team wins, so neither team goes home happy. Neither team's fans feel any sort of accomplishment. You might as well have never played the game at all to begin with, to save the trouble of having such a long game end with no result.

The NFL isn't nearly as bad about this as the NHL, though. Not only does the NHL regularly have ties, but they also feel the need to differentiate between losses in regulation and losses in overtime. So they have teams with records such as 27-15-8-3, and I think that's quite ridiculous.

Ties do suck. However, the NFL's OT system works fine. Yes, people complain about teams that get the ball first and drive down the field to kick a field goal. But the team that allows the offense to drive down the field should receive no benefit for not stopping the other team. Not to say that I do not enjoy watching OT in college football but it is fundamentally different than the NFL OT system. You have to drive significantly farther down the field in the pros which changes the perspective of the game.

Anyway, I saw the highlights and it looked like a great game. I wish I had that instead of the Eagles/Colts.

You mean division, not conference.

Thanks for letting me know. I changed it. I for one think the NFL should at least have 2 OT's before declaring a tie. Thats a half of football. Ties suck.

I hate the OT system in College Football - you take a tightly contested 17-17 tie and turn it into a 52-51 shootout - that's ridiculous.

I hate regular season NFL OT being only 15 minutes but then again how often is the game not decided in 15 minutes or less ?

Playoff OT is classic - Miami vs Kansas City in 1971 is a great example and obviously the Granddaddy of all OT games was the 1958 Colts-Giants tilt

and I'll take a tie tonight too Pool Boy provided the total score is 48 points or more.....

in the NFL, i would like to see a 15 min OT, no sudden death, but there would be a 16 point skunk rule. so if one team is being blown out by 16 or more in the OT, they just end it there...kind of like a baseball rule our highschool had. if you were beating a team by 9+ by the end of the 5th, the game was over and you skunked them. we did that once when i was playing.

A few things:

1) I hate ties. Except in hockey. It might be ok if they changed their OT system to 3 on 3 and go sudden death from there, but I can live with them having ties.

2) College Football has the most elegant overtime system in all of sports. Especially once you get a few overtimes in and you're forced to go for 2.

3) If the NFL doesn't want to go to the college system, cut it to 10 minute overtime periods and remove the sudden death. Repeat those until you have a winner.

Also, the team that has first possession in OT has won around 50% of the games (according to many sports media outlets), so winning the coin toss and getting the ball first hasn't proven to be the huge advantage that it appears to be.

Um, no. All teams in the same *division* play 12 common teams, in addition to playing to games head-to-head.

According to his agent, the Titans (tennessean.com) are one of eleven teams that have expressed interest in Crumpler. The TE position is an area that the Titans need help in, as the position hasn't had solid play here since Frank Wycheck retired.
