From the desk of Swordsman Yen
With the WWE Anthology CD set to hit the stands this Tuesday, I figure now would be a good time to reflect on our favorite themes from years gone by. Here's a few of mine:

- Undertaker ("For Whom The Bell Tools") - Definitely fear-inspiring and was perfect for UT's dead man persona. Crowd always went apeshit when the bell tolled.

- DX - A hip theme that best reflected a group that went by their own rules.

- Goldust - If there ever was a perfect theme for a movie buff transvestite who is obsessed with gold, this one is it.

"I don't care what people think. People are stupid." -- Charles Barkley

Cowboys 3-6-0. Startup QB on struggling football team seeking offensive line to add years to my life. Blocking skills preferred.

Spurs 2-1. Shouldn't have lost to Golden State, but still a good start.

I'm right there with "Sexy Boy" and "Theme from DX"

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the nWo Porno Music. What better music for a group of guys who are so full of themselves as they were (it was especially fitting for Hall, Nash, and Hogan).

I've always liked Chris Benoit's WWF/E themes.

My dark horse favorite would be Mr. Perfect's, but I still have a soft spot for the old Razor Ramon music too.

Oh, and Flair. Some orchestral music is better than generic rock for a wrestler theme.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (2-6) - Um...yeah. Way to go Defense? Never mind...
Badgers (6-4) - Umm...Still over .500...Yeah...
Buffy 7.Uhh Whatever this last one was earns a 7.00000314159 because the begining was terrible, but the meat of the episode was hillarious. But filler. Just like most of Season One...Is this some kind of whacky time warp?

Agreed on Goldust. Absolutely perfect for the gimmick.

Other favorites:

1. Gangrel - Just sounded cool, and was different from just about everyone else's. Combined with the pyro, video, ring of fire, and elevator, it made for probably the best entrance ever.

2. Maven - Love the guitar intro, and the determined sound of the music and vocals fit the "never-say-die" Maven nicely.

3. "You Think You Know Me" - FAR better than the current Rob Zombie crap. Interesting and different.

4. HHH, "The Game" - While HHH is Satan to the IWC, you simply cannot get much better than Motorhead.

5. D'Lo "New Sherriff in Town" - I really can't explain it, but this one just gets me excited, which I guess is the key to a successful theme.

I always liked the Honkytonk Man's theme song, as cheesy as it was. It was hysterical watching him "play" that guitar to the music.

I liked the original Undertaker theme song as well as his theme music when he was in the Ministry of Darkness.

Goldust and 1st Mankind music were great; love that eerie orchestral music.

DX music and Triple H's theme before "The Game."

I loved Slick's rap music to Akeem.

I HATED "Grab them cakes" for The Junkyard Dog (RIP)

Is Slick's music actually on there? I thought it was left off. Talk about a crime!

Jive soul bro

Well I met this lady and I told her quite a story, said I'd love her forever more.
But the trouble is I tell the same old story to every girl that walks through the door.
This is the Slickster talkin' at cha honey, yeah!

Well first they love me and then they don't, sometime they do it and some time they won't.
So I said to this girl "Hey you, get out!" and she got to her feet and began to shout:
"You're A Jive Soul Bro, a Jive Soul bro, and you're always lying to your friends.
You're a Jive Soul bro, a Jive Soul bro, and you never get nothin in the end."
What cho talkin bout lady? This is the Slickster talkin to ya, I don't do nuthin but tell the truth, hehehehe.

Well, I thought this dude might learn a lesson, but I didn't learn a thing at all.
Why late last night I was out messing with a lady that was SEVEN feet tall. Now that was a BIG woman!

So I said "Hey baby, spend a night at my house."
She said "No way, you jive yo mouth!"
I said "Hey there baby, can't take no more!" so she threw me on the floor in the figure-four singin'
"Jive Soul bro, a Jive Soul bro and you're always lyin' to your friends.
You're a Jive Soul bro, a Jive Soul bro and you never get nuthin in the end."
Chorus:
Jive Soul broooooo Hey, wait a minute everybody!
Jive Soul broooooo I ain't no jive soul bro!
Jive Soul broooooo
Jive Soul broooooo Now come on band and break it down for the Slickster.

Band:
Sooner or later you'll see the light, you've got to stop Jivin for the women at night.
If we catch you lyin we got to go, we'll sing this song and will for sure.
You're a Jive Soul bro, a Jive Soul bro and you're always lying to your friends.
You're a Jive Soul bro, a Jive Soul bro, and you'll never get nuthin in the end.
x2

Chorus:
Jive soul brooooooo No, no no y'all, this is the Slickster talkin to ya!
Jive soul brooooooo That's right, i'm leannnnnn and i'm meannnnnn and my pocket's full of greeeeeeeeeeen, yeah.
Jive soul brooooooo Hey, I'm the "Ladies pick"
Jive soul brooooooo And I'm even the "Fella's pick"
Jive soul brooooooo And rememba everybody
Jive soul brooooooo My motto is
Jive soul boooooooo Honesty is the best policy hahaha! yeah!

Got to agree on DX's theme. The "heartbeat" pounding effect in the intro ruled it.

Also agree on Hoshal's "Maven's Theme". Perfect song for the youngster.

Tazzzzzzz's "13" was AWESOME, and it still starts Windows up for me every morning. Again, something about the "heartbeat" effect I guess

I also loved Curt Hennig's theme song, and by the way I don't think it's on the Anthology CD.

I liked Dibiase's theme money money money theme but that's mainly just because of being a Dibiase mark.

Also I liked Rey Mysterio's theme song in WCW, not the rap one, but the one he had when he was still the masked luchador, and Psicosis, and Jericho's theme when he was still the Lionheart.

And of course me and Tank Abbott always marked out for the 3 Count songs.

And I vote for Steve Blackman's theme as most underrated.

By the way since WWE owns the WCW do they have rights to their theme songs (I think they do because isn't Chavo's theme song Eddie's old WCW theme) or does Jimmy Hart (didn't he do the WCW themes) have rights to them. If so they should do an WCW theme song CD sometime too.

I think Jimmy Hart did a pretty good job on the theme songs in WCW and I heard he's going to be doing music for Legends of Wrestling 2.

Maybe because it's some of my first memories of wrestling, but when Hogan used "Eye of the Tiger" I loved it.

As soon as you heard that guitar riff start up, you knew someone was getting their ass kicked. Ahh...for the days before smarkdom.

Surprisingly, WCW used a lot of public domain music for entrance themes. I know for a fact that I've heard Jericho's face theme in several commercials and other TV shows, and it can be heard at least once a week during Sportscenter. And while it was most unexpectedly pretty good (the only other WCW themes I ever really liked were Kidman's and Glacier's, the rest were usually pretty bland when they weren't rip-offs of Nirvana or Pearl Jam), it couldn't possibly have been good enough or well-known enough for so many different entities to buy rights to it.

Yeah i remember hearing WCW themes on Sportscenter too now that you mention it. Does WWE use any public domain music? I thought I heard the Hardy Boyz theme on Sportscenter once recently too.

WCW did use a lot of public domain themes. I remember one lazy weekday afternoon I was flipping through channels and came across the Ricki Lake show. Not sure what the show was about, but the jealous boyfriend came out on stage to Dean Malenko's WCW theme.

I hear Chris Benoit's old WCW music in a porno once. And the Harlen Heat theme in a porno.

Sad that I know that...

Now, it's hard to hear Booker come out without thinking of some HLA (it was a lesbian scene that they played it).
