|  #1 Posted on 2.10.02 2219.53 | Over on the main board, there was a posting (with just a bit of subsequent discussion) that kinda bothered me. I'm not entirely sure exactly why it bothered me, so I thought I'd run it by you other ladies for input.
The basic topic is women wrestlers & blading.
I'm in the group that thinks that blading is overdone, but occasionally is a very effective device. The HBK/HHH match is a perfect example: the match was billed as a street fight, brutal, & it was very important in the story of the match to have a bloody HHH. That's a good use of blading.
I'm not coming up with a scenario where blading would be well used in a women's match.
I'm thinking that the word "brutal" is key. The big, monster guys beating on each other can lead to brutality. That makes sense. When I think of the women's matches (& most of the cruiserweights' too), I don't think of a style that leads to brutality. I expect more finesse & skill.
Maybe I'm just being sexist, feeling that the women should be above all that. Maybe I'm having some resonation with the whole issue of young women "cutting". Maybe there's just something about it that crosses the "violence against women" line for me. I certainly am feeling that its not something that I want to see becoming accepted.

And I dig blade jobs in general--I mean, I'm not, like, TURNED ON by them ;-) but I do think they add a lot to a match or beatdown that's meant to be brutal. They are wasted on ordinary matches, and that's what women's matches are.
Up until the monumentally stupid DDQ, I thought the Taker/Lesnar match at Unforgiven was doing just fine, because among other things, this was a blading match and both participants had jigged. That was fitting. Big nasty men beat each other up and juice--it's an archetypal conflict. A good crimson mask is an unforgettable visual.
But a pretty young woman with blood running down her face? I don't think so. The YUCK factor on that is way too high for me. Chyna is about the only female wrestler I could have tolerated seeing bloody. Maybe Jazz. If all female wrestlers were Big Momma Pump, it would be a different proposition, but most of them look like fitness models, which is exactly what they are. A bloody fitness model is never going to look tough, only like an assault victim.
I am not very interested in women's matches to begin with--I much prefer to watch big nasty men fight. I did watch them while Jazz was around, but I can't work up much enthusiasm otherwise--I'm just too lazy to get off the couch unless something really blows (see Action, Hot Lesbian.) If the women start to take on the accoutrements of men's matches in an misguided effort to look "legit", I doubt I'll ever watch one again.

I think that's the problem right there. A bloody male wrestler looks like a real bruiser - atrractive in a rugged, manly sort of way. A bloody female wrestler just looks like she's been worked over by a thug - not attractive at all.

| #4 Posted on 3.10.02 1703.15 | Since women's matches are primarily geared towards the male audience, I'd be interested in seeing if many of the guys would want the women blading. Personally, I can't see any plus side to it. The women, while some are quite athletic, are mainly eye candy for the men in the audience, and let's face it...blood ain't pretty.
