100 bucks says Hulk Hogan..j/k

Knowing the Apter rags it could very well happen...

Time to flame the lame

It's all about the game,
and how you play it
I hunger for control,
That why I'm with Stephanie
It's all about the lame,
and Vince has gotta pay me
I am the lame
You don't want to like me
I want control
I used to do Joanie
I am Kev's bitch
But people still hate me
I am the lame
and Zenk is going to flame me

Meltzer said it was RVD.

You know, there are actually deserving candidates in the WWE (Benoit, Angle, Eddy) and they pick mr. Sloppy Spot Fest.

*sigh*

You're all so WONDERFUL. Why did they ever have to remove you from the continuity? You'd have made for MARVELOUS stories. You WILL make marvelous stories. And the FIRST story of the new world will be a story of REVENGE! -- The Psycho Pirate, Animal Man 23, May 1990.

I think OMEGA was just funnin' us. I could've sworn I read at least two items in the printed version of The Torch and one on another site about the demise of PWI and the Apter mags, but perhaps that was based on the announcement that he would be going out of business on a date certain.. perhaps after this year's PWI 500.

But probably not.

Thanks. The way Meltzer worded it, I wasn't sure if RVD was #1 and Triple H was #10, or the other way around.

As far as your other comments, PWI always looks heavily into the amount of time someone was around in the year, so that explains Eddie and Benoit being overlooked. Now, Angle being overlooked I can't explain.

Howerver, I am a huge RVD mark (I can't explain it), so I'm happy. He may be sloppy and he may be spotty (although he is improving in both areas), he is still very entertaining. He and Angle (along with Booker T) are the next sure-fire main eventers in the WWE, so as long as one of them got the #1 slot, I'm happy. WWE has something with these guys. Unfortunatley, they'll probably just screw it up and push Bradshaw and Batista. Oh well, such is life.

Well I'll always have a special place in my wrestling heart for the Apter Mags. They give me my ECW fix when ECW first was born and I had no other means of knowing what's going on in ECW... I haven't picked up a PWI or a Inside wrestling in years

I always love how they'd really take it seriously like wondering and debating if ECW is worthy of a "world" title status.

Of course there was always that year when they shocked the world by giving Dean Malenko the #1 spot in the PWI 500.

Man,PWI is still around?

I haven't seen a issue in forever.Back when I was a Hulk Hogan loving mark, the Apter mags were huge for me.

Well, for sake of argument, can anyone dig up the rest of the list? I've seen the top 10 in various places online ad nauseum... (If nothing else, the list is fun just to see the WACKY INDY WRESTLER NAMES! That and I want to see if anybody from Gateway Championship Wrestling made it this year.)

I'm guessing the ish hasn't come out yet, but a source at London Publishing fed Dave the Top 10. The list prolly won't pop up until Monday or Tuesday.

Last year Kurt Angle was # 1 in the PWI 500.

Who knows, considering that Kurt Angle is the favorite for Wrestler of the year, RVD could be the best wrestler next year.

Also, I remember one year in which Bill Apter was on WCW Saturday Night, and presented Hogan with the Best Heel from one of those PWI awards. That was weird.

The year end awards were interesting. The pictures of the wrestler/winners holding the PWI plaque always interested me. Is it the real wrestler holding it or was it fun with photoshop?

Mybe they'll put Mutoh? They had his jump to All-Japan as #10 on events of the half-year.

The only good thing about the 500 was letting people in on at least some of the big indie names, luchadors, puro stars etc.

Renegade, the bishonen master says:

O_o ...now how in the Hell did Undertaker get that high? Well I guess you can ask that question of RVD...in...uh...another form of that question, but let's not go there. At least Jericho moved up from his #10 position of last year.
