What do you all think the best PPV theme song was?
I always thought that Wrestlemania X-7 had a good one in "My Way". Where their any that just sucked. Theme songs might not be important parts of PPV's but I was just wondering. Some are fitting ad some arent. Comments?

On this note anyone have an opinion to the best PPV opening video?

I'll say '98 Survivor Series, because it spawned "No Chance"!

Best video was the one where Freddie Blassie was sitting and talking and there's these crazy clowns and circus imagary going on. And Freddie gets up and does a little dance thing with his arms, and it speeds up really fast and was creepy as hell. I don't know, but I liked it.

Notable mention on video goes to Judgement Day for the "He's Here" video with the little girls, even though everyone predicted Undertaker coming in.

99 Rumble spawned "No Chance"

I'd put it right there with Survivor Series 98, which was "Deadly Game" as tied for second.

They'll never top "The End Is Near" for Armageddon 2001.

You'e right. Well, "Deadly Game" was tight as well, but nothing beats "No Chance". I don't know why, but I really like that music. It's always my anthem in Create-A-Wrestler.

Hell, I liked "Control" for last year's "Survivor Series" but if you want to talk about music written/produced in-house (i.e. by Jim Johnston & company), gotta go with "The End Is Here" from Armageddon, 2001. That's just too damn cool.

Of course, I also dug it when they used the choral movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony over the opening credits of SummerSlam in 2000, because I'd just gotten home from a music festival where I sang that piece. They used it really well too....when they showed the footage of Kurt & Steph playing tonsil hockey on the couch, the music was at the point where the German lyrics "kuse gabe" are translated as having to do with kissing.

So, that was a cool thing for me.

My vote goes for "My Way," WM X-7.

By the way, Deion, I dig the signature.
I also totally forgot about that creepy Blassy promo too. Good stuff, there.

YES. That was, uh, King of the Ring, a year or two ago? 'My body is bloodied and broken...lead me to my throne.' It's just so creepily wrestling/King Lear.

I would *love* to get a copy of this, even just the sound from it. Anyone hook a brother up?

The "Crimes of Passion" Freddie Blassie thing was originally from Summerslam 2k. It had bits of Ode to Joy and other operatic hits in there. For KoR 2k1, they re-ran that, spliced in Angle, Shane, Benoit, Jericho, and Austin, then added that lead me to my throne stuff.

Would anyone here happen to know what song was used for Invasion, AKA Fully Loaded 2001? Even if it's in-house stuff, I remember liking it. Also, Invasion had a VERY spiffy video package, IIRC...

There was also a similar Classy Freddie Blassie thing that they did at Vengeance 2001, the night they unified the WWF and WCW Titles. That was pretty freaky, too.

I liked My Way a lot, although the last time we had this discussion, it seemed there were a lot of people who thought it was pretty horrible.

I believe the Invasion theme song was a generic theme, but I'd have to go back and look at the tape to be able to tell you for sure. And right now I'm too lazy. LOL...

It wasnt that everybody hated "My Way" so much. (Some did Im sure) Its that WWF drove the song into the damn ground before, during, and after X-7. Ive never heard a PPV song repeated so much.

Yo, I have to put the vote in for Bodies. I have no idea why I love that track so much but dammit I do!

The video package hyping Austin - Angle at Summerslam with that in the background was freaking gold in my view.

I liked the "Mr. McMahon's Utopia" package from Over The Edge '98, myself...

As far as the music goes, they tend to use nu-metal which, more power to you if you happen to like, isn't really my bag, so generally the songs wind up annoying me. (I'm *still* sick of Michael Cole announcing that "Click Click Boom" song.)

That said, I'd probably go with the Summerslam '98 theme - "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC. Not only is that a classic song, it's the first time I can ever remember the WWF using an actual mainstream song on one of their shows, which gave the whole event a real classic feel.

Hmmm, I wonder if I have that one on tape...

I was always a big mark for the old generic music used as a SummerSlam theme around 1990 or so...complete with that orange italicized logo, instead of the double green-and-blue S's like they have now.

Of course, this was back during the Hogan-Earthquake and Warrior-Rude feuds, so maybe I oughta ban it from my brain.

There have been a lot of cool songs used for PPV hype. Amongst those I enjoyed the most...

Survivor Series 1999: "Deadly Game" It's a deadly game...oooo-OOooo...deadly game...oooo-OOooo...
Royal Rumble 1999: "No Chance"
Over The Edge 1998: "Mr. McMahon's Utopia"
WrestleMania X-Seven: "My Way"
Armageddon 2000: "The End is Near"
SummerSlam 2001: "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor"
InVasion: For the super-cool Churchill stuff.

I don't think anything can beat the original WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble themes. Every year, when those guitar chords to the WM theme kicked in, I always thought "The shit's on!"

Individually, my vote goes for the video package that opened Over the Edge '98 with Mr. McMahon's "utopia." There, they mixed in Nazi war march footage with McMahon's rhetoric "This is MY arena!" and the introduction of everything stacked against Austin. It really set the tone for what Austin had to overcome in order to defeat Dude Love in the main event.

As far as the worst theme song goes, it has to be for this year's WrestleMania X8 and that Drowning Pool song. It didn't fit the event at all. The song was slow and mopey, and didn't pump anyone up for the event. I'd even go as far as to say I liked Limp Bizkit's song in comparison.

I'm a big fan of the old Wrestlemania guitar theme, too. I wish they'd bring that back. It just set the stage when they'd show the clips of the guys who would be facing off. When was the last time they used that?

For actual songs they used, even if the angle was pretty lousy, the "Highway To Hell" Summerslam 1998 stuff made it seem a lot better.
