Hello, friends. This marks the start of my FIFTH year of putting together these lists. Yes, YOU are watching me WASTE AWAY MY VERY LIFE.

Tomorrow's a day off so here, have this now. HAVE IT AND LIKE IT.

Another 210 new releases this week - on Tuesday, or noted in parentheses when it's some other day of the week.

Hover for price, click to order (and spot us a referral), click on the other icons for fun info and great entertainment. (...upon further reflection...perhaps only mild entertainment.)

For added fun, see if you can spot the link to a movie review by John Orquiola! I'm even saving HIM time with this post!

But first...our

PICK OF THE WEEK

Ricky Gervais Show: Complete First Season (The W at Amazon) (HBO, 2010) More accurately, "The Karl Pilkington Show" - OR, "incredibly easy way to make money off old podcasts." Nonetheless, terribly funny stuff and I encourage you to give it a try if you haven't watched it by now. And yes, season 2 is imminent!

TV OF THE WEEK

I'm always surprised when the top seller is something I have no interest in watching, and this week I was surprised to see...
Big Love: The Complete Fourth Season (HBO, 2010) Season 5 is imminent!

Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends: Complete Series I hope you weren't buying season sets as they came out, because this is the only way to get "season 5"

Mannix: Fourth Season (CBS, 1970-1)

iCarly: Season Two, Volume Two (Nickelodeon, 2009) Second half?

Make It or Break It: Season One, Volume Two (ABC Family, 2010) Second half of the season - 10 episodes

Last American Cowboy (Animal Planet, 2010)

Top Chef: D.C.: The Complete Season 7 (Bravo, 2010) (1/9)

Into the Universe With Stephen Hawking (Discovery, 2010)

The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Season 2 (Bravo, 2010) (1/9)

The Real Housewives of Orange County: Season 3 (Bravo, 2007-8) (1/9)

Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern: Coll 4 Pt.2

Battlestar Galactica: Season Four [Blu-ray] (SciFi, 2007-8)

BRITISH TV OF THE WEEK
The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete Third Season (BBC, 2009)

The Guilty (ITV, 1992)

60 Minutes - Endless Memory (December 19, 2010) (DVD-R) See the complete episode free online at 60 Minutes (cbsnews.com)

MOVIES OF THE WEEK

THE BIG ONES

Machete (2010) Danny Trejo IS
Machete [Blu-ray] includes totally bogus "Digital Copy"

Dinner for Schmucks (2010) Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd - sadly, NO discussions or reviews of this film took place on this board. Our loss, I'm sure.
Dinner for Schmucks [Blu-ray] ONLY on Blu-ray will you get Rudd and Carrell's HILARIOUS spoof of LeBron James' "The Decision" as a bonus feature!!!!!!!! (Actually, at the time...it WAS kinda funny - perhaps funnier than this film was?)

NERD ALERT
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 Motion Comic (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) Despite the fact that an awful lot of people don't seem to like it and post reviews to that effect....it's still selling like gangbusters - which means people really want to SEE it and make really EDUCATED snarky reviews talking about how much they hate it. (I guess? I know there were some Buffy fans around here at one time or another - are you STILL here, and what's your take on this thing?)

The Last Exorcism (USA/France, 2010)
The Last Exorcism [Blu-ray]

Case 39 (USA/Canada, 2009) Renée Zellweger
Case 39 [Blu-ray]

Catfish (2010) I feel like I heard a lot about this movie, but when I went back and checked....I guess none of it was here at the board.
Catfish [Blu-ray]

Howl (2010) James Franco IS Allen Ginsberg For MORE fun, don't miss their quiz site (areyouobscene.com)!
Howl [Blu-ray]

Gun (2010) Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Val Kilmer - still not convinced? Don't miss the trailer over at Image (image-entertainment.com) - you WILL ask yourself "Hey, wait - was that John Larroquette? HOLY SHIT was that Danny Trejo? I can't BELIEVE I'm...still gonna pass on this movie!"
Gun [Blu-ray]

Ticking Clock (2011) Cuba Gooding Jr., Neal McDonough - more info and preview at Sony (sonypictures.com)
Ticking Clock [Blu-ray]

Bitter Feast (2010) Chef takes out revenge on... blogger. Hoo boy - don't miss the trailer (because MARIO BATALI IS IN IT!!!!)

THE BLU-RAY SECTION

To be fair, while there was no thread specifically for Dinner with Schmucks, a few of us talked about it when discussing The Other Guys.

For this week, I am curious about Catfish, so count that and Machete as probable rentals for me.

Catfish was great, I watched it a few nights ago. Allegations of it being a hoax aside, the reactions of all parties involved seemed genuine enough for it to be an enjoyable time.

Oh, I thought Catfish sucked. It started off interestingly but the trailer sold a bill of goods about "the last 20 minutes". Waited and waited for the shoe to drop, but no, the reveals were the most banal possible. Newsflash: People can lie to you on the Internet!

I hated the Buffy comic. The real problem with the book is that without the limitations from television ie a budget, it runs off the track early. There are some good stories like Faith, Dracula and maybe the first few issues, but once Buffy starts experimenting, it becomes a train wreck. I loved Willow/Tara, but this isn't really close to that and handled rather poorly. The fact they turned Buffy into Superman was another strike against it as well as how bad the art is. I had a hard time figuring out who is who at times. The stories are just mundane and the villains are weak sauce. Angel being the big bad was stupid as well Spike coming back in a rocket ship.

I saw the trailer for this on Dollhouse Season 2 and the animation was terrible. I understand this new generation hates books, but this is not the way to end comic book reading. It reminds me of a bunch of kids with an old VHS tape who cut out their favorite comic book characters and slowly move them into a background of a comic book. I know people know I love Buffy and my birthday is this week, I just hope they don't put the two together and give me this as a gift. I'll be polite about getting it and then quickly exchange for Archer Season 1. Now, that is a great animated show.

I agree. I borrowed the first dozen issues, read maybe four, and I was done. I was already long-since emotionally done with Joss Whedon's Buffy even before season 7 ended with that giant hole that used to be Sunnydale, but the comic really bugged me. This is because what made Buffy (once) great in its television media absolutely doesn't translate to the comic book media. I have nothing against people who want Buffy to keep going because they can't or won't let go, nor do I have qualms with Whedon and pals wanting to keep making money off this cash cow (or Angel for that matter - hated the comic of that even more), but I don't need to be a part of it.

Aint It Cool says no one from the TV series does voices for the motion comic, either.

Maybe because I didn't watch any trailers? My wife heard about it on some podcast and we saw it without reading anything else. I had no idea what it was going to be about other than 'some Facebook documentary'.

It's not the best movie of 2010, but I bet I had the most fun at the movies in 2010 watching Machete. So over the top and genuinely laugh out loud moments.

Ricky Gervais Show is indeed release of the week. BTW, for people in the US, Karl's travel show, An Idiot Abroad, will be starting on one of the Discovery channels this month.
