Holy shit. Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. Please forgive my effusive raves but I was completely blown away by The Social Network. Best movie of 2010. So far. But probably period.

Short review (mostly gushing praise) with SPOILERS:

Just as an unrelated note, I do all my posting on here on my Droid, and it is FAR too difficult to press the "Reply" button consistently without zooming ridiculously. Maybe my thumb is just too all-consuming, but I accidentally ignored John Orquiola twice before finally being able to hit the correct button, heh...

Anyway, I caught this movie the night before I saw Let Me In, and... I've gotta say, I don't get the huge buzz this movie has gotten. It's really well done, and the writing and editing are mostly flawless, but I just couldn't get myself to give much of a damn. The casting was almost perfect (damn you, Timberlake, damn you and your acting ambitions) and I really came out of it kind of seeing all sides of the story and not really villainizing any one person except perhaps good ol' JT. This is good. But in the grand scheme of things, even though it told a halfway decent story really well, I think it was just that: a halfway decent story. Even if every ounce of it was true, it's a good thing they had such an amazing team working on this movie because without it, the story isn't enough to stand out. You could plug in just about any company you want and probably find a similar story. Zuckerburg's an eccentric character, but apparently it's not an entirely accurate portrayal anyway. I liked the movie, I'm a huge fan of Sorkin's, but I didn't love it. The soundtrack, to me, is the stand-out here.

Really enjoyed it. I'm also (even more) interested in seeing Sorkin's play about Philo Farnsworth and the invention of TV, which apparently touches on some of the same themes.

In terms of Oscarness, I'm not really feeling any acting nominations. Maybe the guy who played the Winklevoss twins.
