At the Royal Rumble, Edge returned to win the big match and secure a title shot at WrestleMania. He chucked his former tag partner Chris Jericho, whom you might remember trashing Edge right after an injury mandated his months-long absence. Edge vowed to return. For at least the second consecutive week, the show begins with a video package narrated by someone other than the ringside voices. I like it. It augurs big doings.

We are in Memphis this week, hosted by Matt Striker and Todd Grisham. Tonight, five SmackDown superstars will qualify for the Elimination chamber at the eponymous PPV. Also, there will be exclusive footage of Batista and John Cena duking it out.

A reserved Jericho complains that he planned to win the Rumble and go to WrestleMania, and his yearlong plan is in shambles. Edge didn't deserve to win, not when Jericho had carried the WWE in Edge's absence. Edge abandoned him, and Jericho now has nothing. That won't do. Why should he have to qualify for the Chamber? He calls out GM Teddy Long to make things right. Teddy doesn't appear (again; his appearances are as irregular as Taker's), and Jericho makes his way backstage. He can't find Teddy's office. The Hart Dynasty is no help. He enters a room and finds Edge. Edge gets a nice cheer. Edge says Jericho inspired him to rehab and return. "You created a monster." Jericho says he can slay the monster, but Edge says Jericho will regret his return. Tonight, he intends to celebrate by bringing back his Cutting Edge segment and chat with world champion Undertaker.

You can't be in Memphis without an Elvis reference, and we take a quick look at Graceland before the Elimination Chamber video package. The "Satan's Structure" business would be stronger if the WWE promised PPV-exclusive bloodshed. The RAW Chamber will have Cena, DiBiase, Orton, Kofi, unified tag champ Triple H, and WWE champ Sheamus. The SmackDown Chamber so far includes only Taker.

Intercontinental champion Drew McIntyre vs. John Morrison vs. Kane - Triple Threat Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match
Both DX members tossed McIntyre at the Rumble. And look who dragged herself off the sickbed to sniffle her regards to the champ. Dolph Drew Tracker is gonna know McIntyre's voice better than mine. Kane's entrance distracts us from the John/Drew staredown. Last week, Morrison lost a no-DQ match to the champ after taking a FutureShock on the belt. John goes after Drew, but Kane pulls him off. Drew knocks down John and goes after Kane. Morrison rolls up Drew for a one-count. Kane tries a double chokeslam, and it's reversed to a double DDT. John and Drew trade blows again before Morrison crossbodies him over the top rope and to the floor. Grisham acknowledges Morrison's ECW title reigns for what may be the first time. Going to the floor means going to the ads.

Drew has grounded Kane when we come back. They trade shots out of the corner. Kane hits the seated dropkick, and Morrison stops the pin. The timing seems off for these guys; Drew had to stall before the corner roll-up, and Kane had to arrange Drew for the dropkick spot. Morrison's headscissors is reversed into a backbreaker, and Kane stops the pinfall. Drew runs into a Kane boot. Kane goes up, but Morrison pops him with a leaping bicycle kick. Drew clotheslines Morrison out and tries to superplex Kane. That's blocked, and Kane goozles him. Morrison's Flying Chuck nails Kane in the mush. He flattens Drew and dropkicks Kane in the knee before leveling him with the flying leg lariat. Drew stops the pinfall.

Morrison reverses another backbreaker with a swinging DDT, but Kane stops that pin. The Lovely Mrs. Tracker assures me she's doing laundry because she has no interest in Drew, but I know the washer noise will drown out the siren song of his Scottish mane. She's desperate to break that spell, poor pregnant girl. Kane gives Morrison a throat thrust to take him out and then avalanches Drew before clotheslining him to the floor. Morrison is whipped to the ropes and slides under to set up a leaping uppercut. Kane catches him in a sideslam but only gets a two-count. He goes up again, and the flying clothesline connects. Drew pops Kane in the tum-tum with the title belt, and Striker says this is no-DQ. Really? This was a pretty clean match up til now. He hits the FutureShock (and I still say St. Andrew's Cross is a better name for it), but Morrison stops the pin with a serious Shining Wizard. The rare crisp Starship Pain connects for the pinfall, and Morrison's going to the Chamber. This was nonstop movement, and all three men looked good. Striker says he wants to see the Starship Pain from atop a glass pod.

R-Truth vs. Mike Knox - Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match
Truth's entrance theme/rap and puckish dance remain equally horrendous. Truth bounced Mark Henry and Big Show at the same time on Sunday. Knox powers out of a headlock, and Truth immediately goes for his floatover/split drop sequence. He stands up and turns into the KNOX BLOCK. That only gets two. Knox uses a scoop slam and knee drop for a one-count. Another one-count pin and Knox charges, but Truth ducks, and Knox spills outside. Truth comes out with a flip senton atop Knox. Back inside, Truth hits a missile dropkick and pops him with a corkscrew elbow. Knox is out, and Truth is in the chamber. Well, that was quick.

On Monday's RAW, Bret Hart again confronts Vince. Vince won't apologize for kicking him on a previous RAW or demeaning him later. Bret attacks and teases a Sharpshooter. Batista intervenes and holds Bret so Vince can spit on him. After RAW went off the air, Cena ran out to protect Bret. Batista attacked Cena and tossed him all over the ringside area, popping him with the ring steps and ultimately Batista Bombimg him onto the steps in the ring. Cena is hamburger.

Backstage, the Straight Edge Society watches TV. Punk tells his lackeys to take a bullet for him in his match against Batista tonight. They're more than willing.

CM Punk w/Luke Gallows and Serena vs. Batista - Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match
The crowd reaction to two heels locking up should be interesting. Batista does not get his pew-pew pyro tonight, and he may have replaced it with the single spotlight. Serena seems to be carrying the clipper set, and one look at Batista will tell you that won't come into play tonight. But Gallows has a chair, so maybe they're saying they're willing to make audience converts at any time. Allegedly, Punk KILLED at the Rumble. Batista chillaxes in the corner to the extent that the ref beseeches him to engage Punk. Punk calls him out, and Batista decides he has better things to do. He climbs out of the ring and walks up the ramp for the countout. Punk is only too ecstatic to take the win.

Backstage, Matt Hardy is JINGLING. He congratulates Maria for her Celebrity Apprentice work before heading off the ring.

Matt Hardy vs. Chris Jericho - Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match
Matt's awesome entrance theme is still awesomely awesome. I used that on my wrestling videogames for years. Now I use Jericho's a lot. Jericho plays coy in the corner before locking up. He shoves Matt away and darts outside. Back in, he grabs a headlock and shoulders him down. Matt clotheslines him and corners him again. They screw up a clothesline out of the corner, and Matt's stride looks medically unsound. His floppy punches set up a rope whip, but Jericho catches him with a boot and backs him up. Matt backdrops him outside and flies off the apron with a clothesline. Jericho kicks Matt into the ringsteps and gets inside.

Matt barely beats the count, and Jericho punts him. A corner clothesline sets up a seated chinlock. Matt fights out but is caught in a small package for two. A Jericho enziguri gets another two-count. He chokes Matt on the ropes with a knee and misses a corner charge. Matt's neckbreaker drop gets two. More floppy punches set up a corner clothesline and bulldog. Another two-count. He hits the second-rope elbow and calls for the Twist of Fate. Jericho reverses to hit the Lionsault. That gets two. Crowd chants for Matt, and Jericho runs into the Side Effect for another two. Jericho eats a turnbuckle. Matt charges into the opposite corner, and Jericho ducks. He rolls him up and pins with the feet on the ropes, but Matt kicks out at two. Jericho tries the Walls, but Matt counters for an awkward roll-up. Two-count only. He wants the Twist, but Jericho holds the ropes to stay upright, and Matt walks into the Codebreaker. Jericho is going into the Chamber. Hardy is plodding in the ring, and I fear he's shortening his career.

A video recap of the Rumble shows Edge's success and Shawn Michaels's failure. Another Rumble recap shows Mickie James taking the belt from Michelle McCool and dumping the Cake of Vengeance onto her and Layla.

Now five-time women's champion Mickie James addresses the audience. She gives a "so there" for McCool, but here comes Beth Phoenix, who eliminated Khali at the Rumble. Beth compares her Rumble achievement to Mickie's. She's happy and proud of Mickie, but she'll take the belt anytime she sees fit. Mickie tells her to make it official, but out walks and screeches Vickie Guerrero. She puts the kibosh on their match, but we can barely hear her over the audience hatred. She makes a match pitting Beth and Mickie against McCool and Layla for right now.

Women's champ Mickie James/Beth Phoenix vs. Michelle McCool/Layla
Team LayCool are sporting "Simply Flawless" hoodies. Beth starts off against Michelle and heaves her up in an arm wringer. Michelle kicks and forearms to retaliate before Beth hip checks her in the corner. Beth gives her some shoulders, and Michelle kicks the knee. She elbows the knee a few times and moves to spinning knee hooks before going to a heel hook. Nice. Layla wants a tag, but Beth beats Michelle to the corner, and down goes Layla. She scoops up McCool, carries her to their corner, and in tags Mickie. Mickie takes over with an arm wringer and hesitates a second before Beth drops her with a punch. Michelle and Beth exchange a look, and Beth gives her a cheesy grin before clocking her too. Beth walks off, and Layla tags in for what she thinks will be an easy pin. Mickie, however, rolls her up for the pinfall. Beth and Mickie kinda sorta lock eyes across the arena.

During the commercial break, I lose the My40 signal, and I suspect someone hit the wrong a button after the weather update. A look at WWE.com says Rey Mysterio beat Dolph Ziggler to take the last Chamber spot. That means it's Taker, Truth, Jericho, Morrison, Rey, and Punk. During the Cutting Edge, Jericho and Punk interrupted and paid for it: Taker chokeslammed Punk, and Edge speared his former partner.

This is frustrating for me and probably for y'all too. Either the unusual snowfalls or the monkeys in the truck have made my SmackDown affiliate unreliable, and the Lovely Mrs. Tracker requires more and more help in small matters like getting off the couch. It's taking longer for me to get the recaps up here, and I should step away.

Whoever wants to post SmackDown recaps is welcome to do so (you might wanna call dibs to avoid repetitive threads getting the CRZ hook), and I'll be here to comment when I can.

That was some odd booking going on there, from a R-Truth/Knox qualifying match to Batista just walking away to Kane being in one just so McIntyre won't get pinned. Reminds me of the RAW Chamber from last year, so expect HBK to attack R-Truth and take his place.

I was thinking during the entire McIntyre-Morrison feud that it was an effort to make a new star with Drew, so JoMo could move on to bigger things. Hopefully last night proved me right, but only time will tell. Time will also tell if McIntyre has what it takes to be a star, as he seems quite bland to me.

Speaking of fresh faces, R-Truth, like him or not, seems to be getting a push. Unless he gets the Kofi treatment at the Chamber, as Psycho Penguin alluded to. Either way, the guy is over, at least with the kids, and we know how far that can take you these days.

I really like the lineup for the SD Chamber match. It should be quite good, especially if HBK did take Truth's spot.

Hey! They cut the segment from the spoilers where Edge met up with Christian backstage.

Rey-Zig was another nice match between them, best on the show.

So Vince has promised Batista something, either the other Wrestlemania title shot, or a match with Edge for the Rumble title shot. And then Shawn will get in there somehow. But will he win or will he lose again and be :(?

Dang, beat me to it. That has to be what it is, otherwise Batista just walking out flies in the face of everything his character's been since the heel turn.

I'm still not convinced that Edge gets his title shot at WM. The issue with Jericho's RIGHT THERE, unless Jericho can weasel his way in and make it a three-way.

They answered my question about where they go with Morrison. He's got a lot of time to kill between prepping for the EC match and then getting into the MitB match at WM.

Does anyone else think it's odd that they seem to be giving R-Truth of all people a "giant killer" vibe?

Best part of the show was the Straight Edge Society celebration of Punk's "win". Over the top hilariousness.

God, I knew there was SOMETHING that I forgot to mention.

If ever ANYTHING was just begging for a JR call, this was it.

I must also apologize for forgeting to mention how awesome this was. They celebrated like Punk just won a gauntlet match against Andre, Hogan, Austin, & the Rock. It's the little things that make him so great. One nation under Punk indeed.

Yeah, I think he might get screwed out of his shot by Jericho. I think there are two ways it could go:

1) Vince makes Batista/Edge for the title shot, Shawn gets into that match, Shawn wins the shot and challenges Undertaker for the title.

2) maybe that scenario doesn't happen, maybe it does and Shawn loses again, but ultimately Shawn costs Undertaker the Chamber to Jericho and Jericho/Edge is the title match.

Or possibly 3) some crazy unexpected situation like last year.

I was delighted to see JoMo get in there, even if it's just so that Drew Mc doesn't have to take a pinfall. If you figure that Undertaker is kept out of the match until the end and the chokeslams and snake eyes+big boots reign down, this is gonna be all action. No slow heat spots with Kane, Mike Knox, Big Show, Khali, Big Daddy V like the last few.

I agree on both points, and I'm glad to see that they kept the girl from the other week. I hope they keep membership small and resist loading it with jobbers where we end up with another RTC. I like having the enforcer, the girl and the main guy. I'd be fine with a flunky, but that's about it.

Matt Hardy looks a lot like Raven from two years ago. The only difference is Raven is at least ten years older and has a ton more milage on him. Hardy has really let himself go, and I no longer see any reason to push the guy. He's right where he belongs in that Tito Santana/ Koko B Ware lower midcarder/upper level jobber. I'm a little surprised they don't ship his ass back to ECW and swap him with Christian.

WELL, LET'S JUST HAVE A PARADE!

Still can't figure out where they're going with this, though. Dave's been screaming his head off about how he DESERVES to be champ, he assists McMahon in beating down Bret Hart, obliterates Cena post show, has a shot at a championship match..........and he walks away? Zuh?

Punk should've promoed and sheared another plant post-match, but the victory lap was perfect anyway.

Perhaps, as others have suggested, Vince has promised Dave a title shot, which would be preferable than taking your 1/6 chances in the chamber.

My guess was that Vince promised Batista a title shot for either the Raw or Smackdown -after- the Chamber match, when he could have easy pickings (presuming that the "diabolical structure" would leave whatever champion a walking corpse...well, other than the Undertaker, who already IS). I just don't see Dave getting a title match at Wrestlemania for some reason this year. If he does, I'd guess that Cena wins the RAW title in the Chamber...which seems kind of boring and leaves Sheamus with pretty much nothing to do. Not that I care that much about Sheamus, but a title match with Trip at Wrestlemania makes much more sense with the way he's been booked. I -was- surprised that Batista didn't come out and cost Rey his shot in the Chamber, though, as I figured they'd have one last big blowout match in the undercard at EC.

Based on the "off the air" segment they showed from Raw, it looks like a Batista and Cena feud is now in the works for either the Elimination Chamber PPV or more likely a WrestleMania match between the two (with Hitman in one corner and Vince in the other like some were predicting).

Smackdown wasn't bad, as I was confused to why Batista just walked out in his match against Punk (perhaps this is this the angle where Batista is saving himself for a heavyweight title match and or saving himself for the Cena feud that is on its way).

I was glad that Morrison got in but figured that Kane would get pinned because technically, Drew McIntyre hasn't been pinned yet and right now, the WWE wants to keep Drew looking more invincible per say.

As for Mike Knox vs R-Truth, I just don't like watching anything with Mike Knox in it as he is another person that needs to go and overly stale now.

As for Jericho, I can actually see him winning the belt at the Elimination Chamber PPV so that Edge will have a title shot at WM 26 and therefore the feud between Edge and Jericho comes to fruition. Oh and Edge will probably win his 10th title which may have been the worst thing of Edge winning the Rumble; I like Edge but he gets too many title shots and wins too many at the same time.

Anything can happen and anything can change and maybe the Jericho and Edge feud will wait till after WM because I can also see Edge and Taker at WM (I honestly do not see Sheamus and Edge as a main event but it would be different).

I disagree. I'm not sure why Knox isn't getting a bigger push...he can go in the ring (especially for a big guy), he has that sick crossbody and dropkick as signature moves, his character is unique and he has a great look. Ideally, he'd be getting the Sheamus push right now.

I like his sotto vocce presentation, but I didn't dig his medical soliloquies. Good idea, bad scripts. I loved his small interview some months back when he was asked why he attacked Rey Mysterio. "I don't know." And off he walked. That was genuinely interesting. Much like with Batista's initial face turn, a big guy speaking calmly is a refreshing and more effective threat.
