I pretty good card by STRIKEFORCE last night, ending with the first ever Headlining Bout between females. Cyborg totally dominated Carano. Fists flew quickly and Carano looked totally out of her element. On the ground, Gina had little chance of escaping Cyborg's overpowering muscle.

Carano got a few decent chances, but eventually was taken down, and beaten into submission, with a ref stoppage at 4:59 of the first round.

Good fight, good card overall, with a very small bit of hype for Fedor coming in. I was surprised they didn't hype that in between bouts more.

I can't really figure out what Carano was thinking by voluntarily giving up that full mount position to let Cyborg stand up again. It probably did not alter the out come of the fight too dramatically, as Cyborg came close to locking in a few submissions in addition to her usually amazing striking. I just don't know what part of your game plan allows your opponent (who's primary skill is vertical striking) to regain a vertical base. Maybe she was trying to just survive round one and then finish Cyborg when she was out of gas, and she thought that Cyborg on her back was not wasting enough of her energy. I thought Carano looked competent up until that point. After that, she showed a lot of toughness and heart, but those alone won't win you too many fights.

Sing this special song. It's just for you.

Werdum is still a badass that'd be a nightmare to try to sell to the casual fans.

Carano was flustered and scared and had no idea what she was doing, pretty much. She didn't even voluntarily go to the ground either of those times she got the mount, Cyborg was trying a takedown and basically pulled mount by mistake, and even then, the first time it almost ended with Carano getting her knee ripped off. It was the first time she'd really been dominated in a fight and she didn't handle it very well.

Carano's tough, but the truth is there was nowhere she could've taken the fight that Cyborg didn't have an advantage. Cris is the faster, stronger and more accurate striker and far better on the ground. The first time you run into that in a fight, it tends to leave you clueless as to how to proceed.

Yeah, I was making fun of his demeanor before the fight, it looked like he didn't even want to be there. Then BAM he kills the guy! What a beast!

I loved that for some reason. Just sheer cold apathy. If you're psyching yourself up before a fight then look across the cage to see a guy standing there all nonchalant like he might as well be waiting for a bus, that's gotta be pretty scary in its own way.

And then when he realised Babalu wasn't fighting back it was just "oh, I guess I need to find somethig else to do the rest of the night". He's just won the biggest fight of his career via first round annihilation and he's calm as you like. Awesome.

And only just turned 24. This man could turn out to be pretty damn special.

Werdum looked OK but you've got to think someone better than Kyle wouldn't have let him get out of that armbar. Still, he slipped out of it well and had the guy tapping in short order so that's hard to argue with.

There are very very few people with the ground game to hold Werdum in any submission without softening him up with strikes.

Totally agree. I was more meaning he can't give chances like that to the level of fighter he's likely to be facing soon/next (probably Overeem or F'N Fedor). But then he's savvy enough to know that himself so he'd likely tighten up against those guys and like I say, it's hard to knock a man when he gets the job done inside two minutes.

For those who missed it, the fights are up on the Youtubes:

This was such a great game to watch. I'm no lover of Man U, but being able to watch an traditionally dour, defensive, Italian team get the everloving crap beaten out of them, was pretty sweet.
