The big news: Evidently, Maria has been introduced to Dolph's Ziggler. Hi.

Also, there was some wrestling. Such as Jericho and Rey having another of their match of the year candidates. Those two could wrestle each other times infinity and I'll watch every match.

Ziggler and Morrison had a good little match as well. Nothing great, but both these guys are on the way up. For all we know, these two could be headlining PPVs in a couple of years together if their current potential trajectories hold.

McCool finally showed some ass and ran from Melina. Refreshing to see her not strutting around like Undertaker is standing right behind her.

The best thing on the show though was Punk's money worked-shoot promo on Hardy. "Do you know how many times I've been suspended? Zero. How many times have I been to rehab? Zero. What are the chances you'll beat me at Night of Champions?" Zero." Real good stuff from Punk. He's quickly grown into sounding like a top guy.

Interesting too how between Punk blatantly referencing Hardy's well-documented troubles and on RAW how Swagger outed MVP as having been in prison on TV, WWE seems to be testing the boundries of their PG rating. It's not sex, swearing, beer drinking, or middle fingers, but it's an appreciated bit of edge to the product. And Maria and Ziggler doing it in a closet is definitely not PG.

Another good Smackdown.

I'll move this from the emma thread:

Holy crap, Rey/Jericho was brilliant.

Just after I was comfortable calling Morrison/Punk as the free TV match of the year, the first two get half an hour to go all out. And they were tossing off new stuff like it was regular business. A slingshot dropkick into a slingshot crossbody. A spinning kneeling muscle buster. The AWWWWWWWWESOME spinning torture rack backbreaker. Rey springboarding into a leaping Codebreaker. Eleventy gabillion stars for working their ass off. Let them wrestle every week.

And then -- AND THEN -- Edge attacks Rey, who escapes and runs into DOLPH ZIGGLER. Dolph chucks him in the ring. Edge spears him into dirt. Edge/Jericho apply a double-team Codebreaker and invite Ziggler to take his shot. The leaping Side Russian floors a weakened Rey, and the IC champ is CRUTONS. That's how you push the new guy. THAT'S how Legacy should have developed.

Dolph was just an hour removed from pinning John Morrison by grabbing the tights, but their match was just as kinetic. Dolph blocked a baseball slide dropkick, spun Morrison around on his belly, and hit a running knee from the outside. Morrison clobbered him with the beastly Shining Wizard AND hit a corkscrew slingshot plancha. During this match, JR decrees Dolph is Mr. Perfect mixed with Rick Rude, and why not? He's banging Maria while Morrison chats up Teddy Long.

Even Kane was hitting new stuff in his match against Jeff Hardy. CM Punk walked out and distracted Jeff as revenge for Jeff abandoning him to Edge/Jericho last week. Punk, before his match against Khali, called out Jeff for his drug-policy suspensions and gave him what-for verbally. The dueling eye injuries is weak, but the rhetoric is building nicely. This is getting awfully personal.

R-Truth had a crummy skit, the women had a decent enough match with the usual sloppy transitions, and Cryme Tyme/Hart Dynasty isn't winning me over but Rey/Jericho ... Wow. Holy wow.

"Sounds like a badger."

That's the other part of the "what a nice surprise" that I didn't want to spoil -- Mysterio / Jericho, excellent; Morrison / Ziggler, really good; Punk's promo, ooooh he went there. It was a great live show!

As I said in the other thread, some of Punk's stuff didn't get as strong a live crowd response as it might have. But that all had to do with most of the crowd not having seen most of the build-up yet, because of the early taping.

"I have a Sega Genesis! With two controllers!" The Cryme Tyme Word-Up skits have been kind of lame, but that line was brilliant. I'm glad to see that Jesse/Jeezy hasn't yet been future endeavoured after he was needlessly broken up from Festus.

Rey-Jericho, Ziggler-Morrison, awesome matches. Didn't much care for the world champ being apparently beaten by Khali and then sloughed aside like nothing for Khali and Kane to have a chair-off, but Punk still had heat to burn after that monster promo against Hardy.

Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

THough I had doubts about Ziggler when they (re)debuted him, I'm really digging his stuff. WWE, if you guys are smart, you'll build the company around Edge, CM Punk, Jericho, Mysterio, Morrison, and Ziggler. I could never get bored of their characters or their wrestling.

I loved it, but I love Ali G, Bruno, and Borat. I just wish someone yelled out "You're not Pretty Ricky, you're K-Kwik! Get rowdy!"

I thought Pretty Ricky was an R&B singer...but apparently it's a whole group (with increasingly ridiculous names!)

Pretty Ricky is an American R&B Boy band originally made up of Diamond Blue Smith "Baby Blue", Spectacular Smith "Spectacular", Corey Mathis "Slick 'em" and Marcus Cooper "Pleasure P". Pleasure P was replaced by Christopher Myers "Ambition/4play", who followed in Pleasure P's footsteps and was replaced by the current singer, known as Lingerie.

Looks like they got a good fill in for Edge an NoC.

What was the best 2 hours of WWe programing this week? Raw, Smackdown!, or ECW/Superstars? Sence they were back to back just differnet channels on Thursday. Smackdown was good, but I enjoyed the ECW/Superstars more. It was a solid 2 hours of wrestling with little talking. they should move ECW to thursday at 7 now.

I thought Smackdown was much better. ECW featured an Ezekiel squash and Kozlov in the main event, and Superstars has finally become what everyone expected, a glorified Velocity show (not that that's a bad thing) with Chavo vs. Hornswoggle in the main event. Ugh.

Who would be the fill-in? Cause it looks to me like they set up Rey/Ziggler for NoC. Of course I wouldn't mind if they switched it up to Ziggler/Jericho vs. Priceless and moved Morrison in to face Rey.

FWIW, Meltzer said the plan was for Edge to hand off his tag team belt to Ziggler. This was mid last week, which means they've had plenty of time to change plans and unchange them, and the plans getting out might be enough for them not to do it. They've clearly got big hopes for Ziggler based on how they've used him the last couple months.

I hate how part of their idea of big plans is "jump on top of Khali for the token pin at the PPV".

Yeah, the Khali/Ziggler feud should have ended with Ziggler going over stronge. It was a smart move to move him into a fued with Mysterio, though, as it lets him work with someone who a)He can work as the big man and his offense looks more impressive b)work with a veteran who can help him improve in-ring and c)work with someone with more face heat than Khali and get him more over. Now it just remains to be seen if they keep him feuding with Mysterio or put him with Jericho(or both).
