From PWInsider.com

As it has been rumored, TNA will be introducing a 5th title into the promotion. It will be held and introduced to the promotion by Booker T, and will be called "The Legend's Championship." This plays into the angle that they have been running where Booker T has a briefcase, and has been claiming to reveal the contents at the proper time. Booker will defend the title against younger talents he feels he's above and other "Legends," basically it will be similar to the old "Million Dollar Belt" that Ted DiBiase held. TNA took possession of the title during the Bound for Glory weekend. The title was designed by Rico Mann and built by Dave Millican and Reggie Parks.

----

I like it actually as an angle, but I can't see this having much of a shelf life after Booker loses it....

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Really? You don't think there are enough old main eventers to make this work?

This is a belt that Foley could defend without cheapening the real title.

I guess I'm using the comparison of the Million Dollar Belt and remembering it was a great angle with DiBiase/Virgil (when he won the belt at SummerSlam (?), the pop was unreal), but after that, it just lost steam. I can see how if played right, Booker can use this as a way to demean the "younger guys" and build it up to where the crowd REALLY wants to see someone take it from him (like Virgil with DiBiase), but after that moment, it could die out.

I like the idea, but qualifying Booker as that kind of Legend reminds me just how old I am. I've watched this guy for (gulp) more than 15 years now.

The real question is whether this will move Sting and Jarrett and Angle aside so the young guys can fight for the heavyweight title.

Read it and weep, fella

If they are able to keep the "Legends" title going after Booker T eventually loses it to a younger guy (which I assume is the way it would go), how is it still the "Legends" title if some young dudes are trading it back & forth?

And if Booker T (or whoever the current "Legends" champ is at the time) only defends it against other "Legends", how des TNA keep the belt from becoming the "Old Dudes" title?

If it's like WCW, people would probably be more interested in title matches with Booker/Angle/Jarrett/Foley/Nash/... than Joe/AJ/Christian/...

I think the more logical booking scenario would be for Sting to hold the world title, and then one of the younger guys retaliates by winning the Legends title, to build to the eventual 'unification' match to end the feud. Then again, TNA and logical booking...

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

If your going to have a Legends title go all out. Have the abdominal stretch be a key hold. Focus on body parts. Make time limits an essential part of the title.

The first champion should have been Matt Classic.
