For those of you uaware, what was once Kids' WB has a new Spider-Man cartoon, produced by some of the people responsible for Gargoyles, among others. Anyway, it's been a damned amazing show, and the season finale is next week, in case you wanted to catch it (they will probably rerun it though) at 10AM next Saturday. Last week was a Sinister Six episode as part of the Black Suit storyline, and it was awesome. But THIS week, we got the origin story as part of Pete's internal struggle against the alien symbiote, with help from Uncle Ben, as voiced by Ed Asner. Eddie Brock's life going to hell and his subsequent submission to the symbiote suit were done really well too, and I am as pumped as possible for:
Ed Asner voicing Uncle Ben is kinda funny, considering he voiced J. Jonah Jameson for the last Spider-Man animated series.
I'd also like to throw an endorsement in for this series, as it's got the charm of the old comics, has really interesting stories, and has some ingenious voice casting (witness John "Bender" DiMaggio as Sandman). The only downside seems to be that the show's producers haven't been able to get the rights to The Kingpin, but they've made up for that pretty well by using Tombstone as the token crime boss.
Hopefully the season sets come in a timely manner, because I missed out on the start of the series. Here's hoping this one lasts a while to fill the void left by JLU and Legion of Superheroes.
Ed Asner as Ed Wuncler Sr. makes it hard to appreciate him as Uncle Ben but thanks for the tip about the show. I've been looking for a version to show the rugrat that was more accurate to the Spiderman of my era. This has the wisecracking, mechanical web shooting Spidey I remember.
I don't ever see a breakdown of the second best show shown on the CW on Friday Nights, Supernatural. Tonights episode starred Jared & Jensen (no really it did) Sam & Dean were portaled to "real life" where they were actually Jared & Jensen.
