404 doesn't just mean your webpage isn't available, it's also the number of new releases logged to this PARTICULAR web page. That works out to 7 Blu-Ray discs, 2 HD DVDs and 395 DVDs.
Everything you see here is allegedly coming out Tuesday, May 27th unless I've noted a different date in the individual listing! (Just for grins, I paid attention this week.)
For those of you who HAVEN'T been here before, welcome! This is The W message board, and I'm CRZ. Here's a brief intro to our weekly "New DVDs" thread:
Unlike those sneaky Amazon folks, who apparently are SO desperate for clicks that they only let you see 12 items on a page, we meticulously assemble the whole shebang, then place EVERYTHING on one (very long) page for your convenience!
Hovering over links should provide you with Amazon's current price (which will usually be at its lowest during the pre-order and on the day of release!)
Adding an item provides a friendly referral from us and FOR us, so please consider making your purchase - or ANY purchase, for that matter - through us. It places a few coins in our tip jar and YOU'LL get some good karma...well, you'll get your merchandise, anyway. Probably.
As much as we love Amazon, sometimes - often - they are a little light when it comes to the details about the stuff they're selling. That's where we step in - I attempt to some provide additional exposition (or, more likely, a bad joke) along with links to more information represented by IMDb icons (which can be clicked to take you to a movie's IMDb listing) or tv.com icons (which can be clicked to take you to the relevant episode list from tv.com)! And if I can't give you THAT, I'll sometimes take you directly to the distributor's own information...especially when they're also offering a trailer or free preview. You can waste LOTS of time on these - and really, isn't that what the Internet is all about? Watching awful trailers? (Distributors with no Internet presence suck, by the way. You get NOTHING for THOSE listings. Sorry, but I can only do so much with my ability to read minds!)
ALL links should open new windows while keeping this one alive, so you can click, look, and then close to come right back here! We never want you to leave!
If you don't mind my asking for some promotion, if you like what you see here PLEASE tell a friend about this post (or vote this thread up on your favourite social networking site by clicking on the site icon(s) of your choice at the bottom of this post) because it takes me a long time to put these together, and I'm a big fan of more eyeballs - especially when it comes to over 1,000 hits versus the crappy 28 I got last week! (Of course, we're also happy for you to share this link to others via email as well - a lot of people all over the world do that as well!)
Please feel free to add a reply and share your two cents about any of the listings you see here - show off your impressive knowledge, share your opinion about something you've seen, something you're looking forward to seeing, or make your own crappy jokes which are better than mine!
We also hope that if you buy something, you come back and tell us what you thought about it! This has hardly ever happened, but hope springs eternal!
If you have something to say but don't want to say it publicly (or register for the board), you can also email me direct at CRZ.DVD@gmail.com!
Strap in. Heeeeeere we go! Nothing really grabbed me out of this bunch, so I defaulted and came up with this
PICK OF THE WEEK: The Three Stooges Collection, Vol. 2: 1937-1939 (The W at Amazon) 24 shorts from the titular years - I picked it because (1) c'mon, it's the Three Stooges and (2) I'm happy to see bona-fide lovingly remastered versions and not chopped up "we think it's public domain" el cheapo compilations possibly mastered off someone's VHS collection. The DVD buying public deserves more compilations (and more well-treated upgrades to original source material) like this!
Grace Is Gone (2007) John Cusack loses his wife (fighting in Iraq), takes his two daughters on a road trip - does seeing John Cusack so old make you feel so old? Cassandra's Dream (USA/UK/France, 2007) Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell - written/directed by Woody Allen Cleaner (2007) Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris, Eva Mendes, Luis Guzmn The Take (2007) John Leguizamo, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Perez The Walker (USA/UK, 2007) Woody Harrelson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Lauren Bacall, Lily Tomlin All Hat (Widescreen) (UK/Canada/USA, 2007) Luke Kirby, Rachael Leigh Cook, Keith Carradine, Lisa Ray, Ernie Hudson What Would Jesus Buy? (2007) Morgan Spurlock thinks people spend too much money at Christmastime! What a fun guy he is! www.WWJBmovie.com
OLD MOVIE DISGUISED AS A NEW MOVIE OF THE WEEK If Love Hadn't Left Me Lonely (Lexie - direct to video, 2004) Richard Brooks, Cindy Herron Braggs, Ice-T, Gary Busey, David Alan Grier - probably better off scoring a used Lexie on the cheap
CRITERION COLLECTION OF THE WEEK #431: The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection (UK, 1940) - Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese think you should see it, then listen to their commentary - more info at Criterion (criterion.com)
The Violin (El Violin - Mexico, 2005) More info and trailer at Film Movement (filmmovement.com) - rescheduled from 4/22
A Thousand Women Like Me (Herazan Zan Mesle Man - Iran, 2000) Not in IMDb (or on irmovies.com) but I found a listing at Facets (facets.org) Resistance I believe this is actually Resistance[s] Vol. II (microcinemadvd.com), a "collection of experimental films from the Middle East and North Africa"
ARGENTO OF THE WEEK (FOR KIM) Phenomena: Special Edition (Italy, 1985) Jennifer Connelly, Fiore Argento, Donald Pleasance and of course soundtrack by Goblin - more info at Anchor Bay (anchorbayentertainment.com) Tenebre: Special Edition (Italy, 1982) Did I say "soundtrack by Goblin?" Anchor Bay Dario Argento Box Set Includes Tenebre, Phenomena, Trauma (1993 Italy/USA) , The Card Player (Il Cartaio - Italy, 2004) and Do You Like Hitchcock? (Ti Piace Hitchcock? - RAI, Italy/Spain, 2005)
AND THE REST Drive-In Madness (1987) Compilation of trailers and previews from that certain genre - More info at Sub Rosa (b-movie.com) Millenium Dragon (Hong Kong, 2000) More info at Vanguard (vanguardcinema.com) Most High (2004) Crystal meth is a hell of a drug The Lather Effect (2006) Connie Britton, Sarah Clarke, Tate Donovan, Peter Facinelli, David Herman, Caitlin Keats, William Mapother, Ione Skye, Eric Stoltz - whew! - I dunno, when the soundtrack artists on the sticker are in larger type than the cast list...maybe that's why their selling point is "A 'Big Chill' for Generation X," the fact that it has a soundtrack of its era, dude, man, I guess we're gonna be suckers and buy it THEN, right? Dude? All I know is MY high school reunion ain't gon' be NOTHIN' like this movie! (It will run longer, for instance.)
TV MOVIES OF THE WEEK Holocaust (miniseries, NBC, 1978) James Woods, Meryl Streep, Michael Moriarty - I probably shouldn't have buried this down here, as I understand it's kind of a big deal. (The holocaust, I mean. Not this epic miniseries...well, maybe YES this epic miniseries as well!) Ten Commandments (ABC, 2006) Naveen Andrews King (History Channel) (A&E, 2008) Martin Luther, Jr, that is Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (made for TV, Canada, 2008) Dougray Scott, Tom Skerritt
WHA Chronicles Numbered limited edition of 10,000 - I believe they have severely overestimated the audience for a compendium of 1970s non-NHL hockey. Three discs! More info about "the only four complete WHA sanctioned games in existence in any quality" and bonus features at Video Service Corp (the only four complete WHA sanctioned games in existence in any quality)
Ultimate Fighting Championship, Vol. 81: Breaking Point 2/2/08, Las Vegas - Sylvia vs. Nogueira, Lesnar vs. Mir - 81.ufc.com - oh by the way, if anybody needs a presale code for UFC in Minneapolis (Lesnar's next match), let me know - those tickets are on sale...Saturday I think?
We also have these 90 titles from Shami Productions. They all come up "Animated" and from "Japan" so I'm assuming they belong here. They ALSO sound like they might be more on the nastier side of anime. Of course, without cover graphics, we can only allow our dirty little minds to make that decision for us. This text alone is probably responsible for nobody seeing this list through referrals this week...
Man, not even a zinger for the andfinally. What a weak week! Maybe you've got something to say about something that'll make it all better?
Come back Monday and we'll see if anything's spiced it up any. Also, we'll take a final look at just how many different Rambos made it into Amazon's top preorder list!

You can't get too much Michael Powell, especially when it's a Criterion release.
NOW SHOWING UNAVAILABLE: Of course, the 90 smutty anime titles I was so scared to display to the world earlier...which ended up moot, because Googlebot found something ELSE it didn't like and refused to list me. Ah, Googlebot - I love/hate you
"A Simple Promise (2008) Layla Kayleigh - more info at Indican (indicanpictures.com) - or www.asimplepromise.com"
Yum - you've just been fed.

I think it's unAmerican that more people watch "NCIS" then Sunday Night Football. (Of course, I watched neither, so what does that make me?) "Sit Down, Shut Up" has remained moderately OK!
