Radio DJ Don Geronimo of the Don & Mike Show announced his retirement a few months back. When I was checking the local websites tonight I found out that he's decided to accelerate that and decided to retire now. All this week the show will be running clips of the duo from their past and Don will return on Friday for his farewell show. On the following Monday, Mike will take over the show and it will be now called the Mike O'Meara Show.
Don has been a great DJ and is well loved in the area. Local talk radio won't be the same without him.
Gawd, I remember being in middle school in Maryland and taping the beginning of their show on WAVA (is it still that?) because they used Iggy Pop's "Real Wild Child" as a lead-in and they were hilarious. Those guys were great to listen to on the afternoon drive home. Farewell, Don.
I will miss Don. I've listened to the show since I was 9 yrs old when they were on WAVA. I think their best time was shortly after they made the move to WJFK and started getting some small syndication deals. I haven't listened to the show in the past 5 years as it just wasn't the same anymore. I hope Don enjoys his retirement but can still pop up on Mike's show from time to time.

After they moved to WJFK, WAVA turned into a Christian music station and has been that way ever since.
Don was on WLS or WCFL (both top 40 stations in Chicago) when I was a kid. I really remember him.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Sorry for the shameless self-promotion: Starting this Monday, I will be hosting a one hour music program in Santa Barbara from 9am to 10am PDT (12-1pm EDT).
