So I bought nin_ghosts_I-IV_mp3.zip which should have been available for download today. I can't seem to get it to download, though. I don't even know if I would recommend it yet.
I give NIN credit for trailblazing a new way, but I kinda wish that they weren't using stuff like Download count limiters, especially when their network infrastructure is causing all sorts of issues.
I tried to download the mp3 files about 10 times today before I tried to use the webserver and wget, which caused me to get locked out completely.
If you want the songs, use the $5 amazon download. I wanted the $10 2 CD package, so there wasn't another option.
I might be impatient enough to buy these again off of Amazon Or I'll figure out how to use Bittorrent, apparently the album is under some sort of Creative Commons license according to the slashdot comments. I think this means that since I paid for it I can download it somewhere else.
A for Effort, D- for execution. I hope the next attempt works better.
This work is licensed under the Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License, which means it can be shared or remixed (or any other derivative work may be created from it) under 3 conditions: (1) the user gives attribution to the original artists, (2) the user does not profit from the work, and (3) the user gives their work the same license that the original work had (in other words, allowing some other user to in turn do the same thing).
So even if you haven't payed for it, you're allowed to get it from someone who is sharing it. This is a "pay if you want" release, just like that album from Radiohead was.
I ended up buying it again on Amazon because I'm impatient and can't be bothered to install a torrent app just to get this. If someone has tracks 1-3 I would like a PM because I screwed up the limited downloads from Amazon testing various proxy configurations on my work PC.
So I stumbled across the video for "We're All Stuck Out in the Desert" by accident and man did I get addicted to that song so badly I bought the whole album the day it came out. It does not disappoint.
