sipping on gin and juice, lay back, with my mind on spinal surgery and spinal surgery on my mind

The Oceananic Six

1) Hurley
2) Jack
3) Kate
4) mysterious deceased person?
5) whom Kate had to get back to?
6) ???

The showrunners, in what I've read, gave the idea that we're flashing forward to point Z, the post-script of this story. That's kind hard to believe given the content of these two - the real Z is going to be the surviving 6 returning to the island for whomever was left behind.

I don't think Hurley really lost all his money if he could afford that sweet car.

Chance we'll meet Naomi's sister: 10000000000000%

Find it hard so many people would go with Locke. Maybe it's not Penny's boat, but they don't know it's they're bad people. We do, but that's because it's a show on TV that's going for 48 more episodes.

Mysterious Fake Oceananic Man was probably seen by by, what, 10x the amount of people of his usual show? Both were pretty good this week. I think I'd normally be annoyed they didn't get around to meeting anyone from the freighter until the previews for next week, but they sure didn't waste the hour.

Line of the night...from Hurley to Jack:

"You'd look weird with a beard, dude."

My pick for the "others" from the Oceananic Six:

4. Claire
5. Aaron
6. Jacob (okay, so I have no real sixth pick)

I agree about Claire and Aaron - Desmond said he "saw" them getting on into the helicopter and none of his flashes have been false yet. The sixth... Locke? Ben? It's whoever was in that casket - and I can't think of anyone else that would have no family to reunite with to attend a funeral and that the very notion of attending a funeral for would outrage Kate to that degree. (The "him" Kate had to get home to? Her and Sawyer's son, perhaps? Sperm counts are through the roof on the island, correct?)

Also: Jacob totally is Jack's dad. Don't know how it makes sense but wait for the inevitable screen caps and tell me it doesn't look like him.

Well, John Terry was credited as a guest star. But that was probably "Christian Shephard" and not Christian Shephard.

I thought the face that scared Hurley at the shack was Locke's, but upon staring at a freeze frame, I'm not sure. It almost looked like...Jacob (from last season). But if so, then who the hell was sitting in the rocking chair?

Well it was Jacob, but he looked like Christian. If that makes sense. I'm thinking Jacob can look like anyone he wants and has been manipulating everything in that manner. Point is, Christian is really dead, and the writers have confirmed this.

And I personally don't think it was any of the six in that coffin. If they were all so famous, someone would have been at the funeral, as clearly the world was not told what went on there.

If Naomi was lying to them from the start, then she clearly didn't care about them. So why would she protect them? I don't think she really did. I don't think it's a spoiler to talk about the find815 website videos, and there's a lot of into there too. On there we see that the world was told not that they found the wreckage but that they gave up the search. Naomi's full of it. Not the type of person to die saying tell my sister I love her. Didn't make sense. She knew she was dying and she needed Kate to keep the radio on so they could find them.

Re: Naomi's sister.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
One of the new cast members from the freighter is Rebecca Mader, who's British. So she could be the sister. She looks nothing like Naomi, but maybe they're half-sisters.

Thought it was the best Lost opener since the actual series premiere, since they got right into the season's conflict right away. It's also a nice change to see Hurley getting the season-opening episode instead of Jack.

I was surprised to see Rebecca Mader, Jeremy Davies and Ken Leung in the opening credits --- I thought they were going to be recurring characters, not full-on cast members with flashbacks and such. Also was surprised to see Harold Perrineau in the credits since they didn't re-introduce him in the episode. I wonder if some fans who somehow missed the news over the summer were surprised.

Loved the small touch of Ana Lucia's old partner interviewing Hurley.

Hurley's dead.

From tonight, it's pretty clear he and Jack aren't amicable anymore. Despite what Jack said, he's still hurt by Hurley turning his back him. Meanwhile, something big happened between the six to where they had to start killing people they have come to be friends with. Zombies? Insanity? Something else? Jack (non-beard) still has a life to live for, and a whole mess of murder/sacrifice stories is really something he didn't want to deal with. So Hurley quietly decays away in the mental ward until his funeral, which Jack (beard) attended, somewhere in the middle being convinced about Hurley's viewpoint.

Interesting theory, but that doesn't explain why Kate was so appalled that Jack would suggest that she might go to his funeral.

Also, could someone explain to me why Rose and Bernard are so gung-ho to get off the island now? I thought they decided to stay there forever so that Rose's cancer wouldn't come back. Am I forgetting an episode where they changed their minds about that?

That casket looked way too small for Hurley. Plus, Hurley's past doesn't jibe at all with what we know of "J. --antham" from that obituary.

Oh, just so I'm clear on this, the two 'teams' are...

Jack, Kate, Sun, Jin, Desmond, Sayid, Rose, Bernard

and

Locke, Claire, Hurley, Sawyer, Ben, Rousseau, Alex, Karl

So nobody thinks Sayid is one of the six? What happens to him? I always figured he would survive.

I don't think both Claire and Aaron are going to survive. Desmond saw them get on a helicopter, but what helicopter? We already know Jack, Kate and Hurley survive, if Desmond's vision suggest they both survive then that means they've already told us five of the six survivors and we know they don't answer questions that quickly.

My guess for the Six are: Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Aaron...and Alex.

I'm guessing Rose/Bernard or Jin/Sun die next. Sawyer probably dies somewhere close to the end.

Why would Desmond stay with team Jack? He saw Penny on the screen because he yelled "Penny" when he started to run towards Charlie. You'd think he'd believe Charlie is telling the truth about it not being Penny's boat. Just wishful thinking on his part I guess?

Why is everyone jumping on the death wagon? The only reason it makes sense for Hurley and later Jack to want to go back is if there are people to go back to. My pet theory was that Hurley would be one of the leaders of those left behind, but that was shot to hell pretty quickly last night. Its entirely possible that Claire and Aaron, if they aren't part of the Oceanic Six (and would Aaron count as one of them? Its not like he had his own seat on the original flight.), could still get on a helicopter to leave the island in the long-term future, although if Desmond saw a toddler instead of a baby getting on-board, that might have been a useful detail to mention.

Rose and Bernard may not have wanted to go with Locke, but that doesn't mean that they plan on leaving the island.

The more I think about it, the more I like the theory that Michael was in the casket. Why did the text-scroll make a point to mention the theory that the obituary said the guy had moved to LA from New York?

My pick for the remaining three: 4) Claire (w/ Aaron) 5) Michael 6) ???. If one of the Others is rescued (Ben or Juliet), would they count as one of the Oceanic Six? I'd still like to see Juliet meet her sister and nephew at some point.

It was telling that Hurley went with Locke and yet winds up off the island. I liked Hurley's line to Jack "It wants us to go back." Poor Hurley - wanting to go BACK to the asylum. Was Hurley just having visions of Jacob's house, or can Jacob's house travel around the island? Interesting that he successfully willed both the shack and dead-Charlie by closing his eyes. Given Hurley's prior mental problems, dead-Charlie was just Hurley's conscience manifesting itself, right? (Which makes Sawyer having called Charlie "Jiminy Cricket" in a previous episode somewhat amusing). The Jack-Locke 'you won't shoot me' moment was fun. It was an interesting touch to have the split occur at the cockpit wreckage.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode.

What got me was the line from Hurley to Jack on the basketball court, "You didn't think I'd tell, did you?" Tell....what? I think they had to some something to get off the island, including leaving many people behind, and last night showed Hurley at the point (of NEEDING to go back) that Jack will soon be at, as evidenced by the flash-forward in the previous episode. My guess is for Sawyer to be the one in the box, because it seems that they're back to playing the Sawyer-is-all-about-Sawyer card, naturally to the detriment of Kate. I also wonder why Hurley lied about not knowing Ana-Lucia, which might have something to do with Michael somehow.

...oh, and Juliet went with Locke too....that was interesting.

Well that didn't disappoint at all. Awesome.

My guess for the Oceanic 6: Jack, Kate, Hurley, Aaron (raised by Kate after Claire dies, or is left behind?), Locke, & Sawyer. Locke was in the casket.

So even in the flash forwards we will still have the major coincidences? Like Hurley being interrogated by Ana Lucia's old partner, Detective Mole?

I believe the current speculation is that the Oceanic 6 had to tell everyone they were the only survivors upon their return in exchange for getting to leave & sparing the lives of the ones they left behind.

That's pretty much what I was thinking too. It's gonna be fun to see who stays and goes as the season progresses.

Hey, I was *happy* to see the Michael Cudlitz cameo. Glad to see him getting work after Standoff and The Negotiator. That said, of course Hurley denied knowing Ana Lucia. It's the easiest path to keep from admitting there were other survivors.

Well as to who the six are, I think since we know Kate and Jack were part of it and they've split into two groups that it's more likely most of the six would come from Jack's group. With the exception being Hurley. His comments to Jack seem to say the rift between the groups remained a big deal for the rest of the time on the island.

Plus, while Rose doesn't want to go with Locke I don't think she'll leave when it comes time either so her and Bernard are staying.

That leaves Sayid, Sun and Jin, and Desmond. I list Sun and Jin as one because I can't see one making it without the other. So I say you have those two plus either Sayid or Desmond and my bet would be Sayid. Desmond's all fucked in the head and will likely do something to save the others that gets him killed.

Wouldn't be suprised if Kate either takes Aaron with her, or has a baby of her own that she's referring to in the season three finale but I don't think if it's Aaron that he would count as being one of the six.

Claire is not getting off the island. I just don't see it. What's left to tell of her story other than her and Jack being related? I think the next time we see an episode that revolves around her, she's dead. That's why they wrote out Charlie, his story was done.

I'm just killing myself trying to figure out what would make Jack not want to go back and save the rest. I can see why they wouldn't want to tell the full story of what happened on the island. Just not sure what would supress Jack's need to save everyone, at least temporarily.

Plus if Hurley believes he should have gone with Jack, just how bad is it going to get for Locke's group?

Here are two trailers (spoilerslost.blogspot.com) for anyone that hasn't already seen them and wants to. More teasers than spoilers, creates (for me, anyway) more excitement for next week's show....as if that were possible.

But remember it was another asylum patient who pointed out Charlie to Hurley. Seems odd that Hurley would be imagining BOTH the patient and Charlie.

It was sure meant to *look* that way, but he could have also been referring to someone he actually saw beyond "our" vision who was actually watching Hugo or he could have been referring to his own "imaginary" friend, or he could have just been screwing with Hugo knowing that he had an "episode" with a visitor earlier in the day.

I'm just glad it's back, even if it's only for 8 weeks at the moment.
